I’ve seen patriot teams with worst talent have better results on the field.

I'm confident the Belichick kiddies will lean on their years of experience and right this ship in distress

On paper this isn’t a super talent deficient team. Aghlor, Bourne, meyers are solid not elite but solid receivers. David Andrews is a pro bowl center, Isaiah Wynn was a first round draft pick 3 years ago. Hunter Henry and Jonu smith are a huge upgrade from Matt lacosse and Ryan Izzo. Yet so far we haven’t seen that translate to wins yet.

Nobody is giving us a chance in hell against the bucs, I just think the ceiling for this team is higher than most people think. The play calling has been atrocious, it’s all vanilla plays, no motion or anything like that. Teams know we have a rookie qb so they’re blitzing him on every other play. The coaching staff needs to keep this in mind.

Starting 1-2 is no cause for panic, as previous patriot teams have gotten it together in October. I think nothing would hurt Bill’s ego more than to lose to Brady at home and fall to 0-3 in home games and 1-3 on the year. I think it’s going to be closer than everyone thinks it’ll be.
They win week 1 if they don’t fumble it away and are 2-1 with a rookie QB and that loss was largely due to ints. (And the Ints were a throw affected by being hit while throwing, a drop and garbage time)

After 50 years of coaching and 8 rings do you really think belichick even has an ego much less could have it hurt by one game?

Aghlor and Bourne haven't done anything note worthy (i actually like Bourne). Wynn has not been impressive IMO and i expect more from a first rd pick. Jonnu had a dreadful game and we need the TE position to be involved. RBs need to be able to pick up the blitz and i think that is why we don't see Rham out there as he has struggled. Everyone needs to put on their big boy pants for Sunday and show out.

They've been underwhelming for sure. I thought we would have a running attack as potent as Cleveland and Ravens maybe a tad below them since they're more dynamic, but a B+, A- type of running game would do wonders for.us
The OL being poor in all offensive aspects: run and pass has been the biggest surprise and the fatal flaw in this years' team and through complimentary football has impacted a defense that so far has been able to deliver early in games before too much time on the field (allowing both fatigue and the offense to "figure them out"), terrible field position, etc.

Special teams has also been a contributor in the negative (kick offs out of bounds, blocked punt, etc).

Two out of three aspects of the game thus far, and as loathe as I am to state it, the fundamentals have been the worst part (which are USUALLY the result of coaching and emphasis). While players still have to play, the entire OL has shown historically to not have these issues athletically or mentally because they've demonstrated past capability to execute against stunts, twists, overloads, etc.

And now with blood in the water, those same OL will face 8-9 men in the box every down making it nearly impossible to establish the run without demonstrating a passing game (including the necessary pass protection from that same OL) to break those defenses out of that alignment - a very vicious cycle.

Confidence is NOT high right now - amongst either the team nor its fans.

This isn’t that complicated. People have such a selective bias about Pats teams from the past being built on a non-superstar strategy, but that isn’t true at all. Those teams have absolutely relied on elite players just as all teams do.

Offensively, Brady is obvious and has been talked about enough, so no need to go into depth. Beyond that, few Patriots teams had “less talent” at the top. This team may have sufficient depth and plenty of adequate players, but it doesn’t have Randy Moss, Rob Gronkowski, Julian Edelman, Wes Welker players who cause defenses to shift around and opens it up for other players. Look at games in the past when Edelman and Gronk were out and how all the big chunk plays went away. Who is the Patriots biggest threat? Agholor? Henry? Harris? Not going to cut it.

Defensively, same idea. A player like prime Stephon Gilmore, Darrelle Revis, Aqib Talib, Ty Law, etc. rolls down and makes every other corner more effective with less responsibility. McCourty had a smaller version of that effect but has declined. Same with Hightower. Wilfork, Seymour, Harrison, Mayo, etc. Who are the real all-pro type game changers on the Patriots defense? JC Jackson is probably their best player at this point…maybe Judon. They don’t necessarily have weaknesses, but they’re lacking the guys that can really shake things up.

If not for all that bad play and turnovers we would be 2-1 against 2 mediocre teams and 1 bad one...Yeah I guess any team can kinda say that I suppose. If we didnt suck we would be better.

The offensive free agent additions need to step up. Point blank. Jonnu needs to A, catch the ball, and B do something after the catch. Henry needs to be more than Matt Lacosse 2.0 and actually show up. The thing that worries me about both these guys is similar to what happened with Danny Amendola when he first signed here. Danny Amendola produced at a similar level to what he did pre New England but was expected to produce at a higher level due to his new paycheck. It wasn't Amendola's fault he was paid to be something he wasn't. It seems like the same thing may be happening with the two TE's (more Jonnu than HH) as Jonnu is currently on pace for a career high in catches per game (over half a catch per game more than his previous high 2.7 to 3.3) and pretty close to where he has been yards per game wise the last few years as well. HH's numbers are down on average but not by a ton.

I know it has only been three games and they're playing with a rookie but I would assume a large part of the reason these guys were signed was to help the rookie in the short passing game and run block (which Jonnu hasn't looked great at) to help take more pressure off Mac. As for the receivers I thought we overpaid both substantially and didn't expect much and really haven't gotten much. Another disappointment has been the blocking as a whole. The offensive line has been terrible in both pass protection and run blocking and the RB's have been bad in pass blocking as well.

Actually they should be 3-0 if the Saints players catch the Rona instead of the coaches.

When did this fan base become the Jete?

Dont forget Harry, another 1st rounder.

It's cute how fans think the Pats can have a good record strictly based on:

1. We won the offseason, come on man.
2. We did it before so we can do it again.
3. Bill is a great HC, he can win with any avg QB.

Most people just follow along and those 3 things are things repeated alot nationally. Just have to hope that we put a good solid year together and build on it next year. BB played with pocket aces for 20 years and played them well. Lets see what he does with this hand.

The OL is the biggest surprise. These guys are alot more talented than they are playing right now. This is a game won and lost in the trenches.

Right now, guys are getting open but the line is collapsing instantly. And on defense can't stop the run.

Right the ship with the OL and the offense looks instantly better.

So embarassing to see that on this forum, but Mr. Paycheckloan was also flapping his gums this offseason that the 2020 team COULDA won 10/11 games if only they didn’t make key mistakes because, you know, the other team always plays at its ceiling and never makes fixable mistakes when the Patriots win a close one.

The one team the Patriots have beaten has been outscored 70-20 and served up four unforced INTs, and the best QB they faced is really a backup at best, but let’s talk about how this team should be 2-1.

The Saints miss two field goals, but that’s just normal stuff…Tua throws a beyond terrible game losing interception despite leading with a few minutes left, but that’s normal stuff, Jets throw four picks to the wrong team, and we can expect that. But the Patriots mistakes are all uncharacteristic and don’t really count because they’ll fix them. Mac’s INTs are flukes, but that ”touchdown pass” wasn’t **** lucky or anything.

Last year was one year. We COVID issues. We far more talent issues. More often than not including 2008 without Brady, the Pats got better as year went along.

And also basing it on the fact the Pats have 11 new starters from last year including a rookie QB. Forget the Patriots. Most teams in this situation would get significantly better as the year goes on especially if they have systems as complicated as the Patriots.
I would agree with much of this except for the belief that our issues are mostly coaching by our assistants and I just don't think Bill is as plugged in as he used to be. I think Patricia is more the hands on guy which I know is terrifying.

I should probably pump the brakes, but the Agholor signing is probably going to end up being a... less than solid FA acquisition.

Still plenty of time to prove me wrong, but I'm not feeling optimistic. Jonnu looks even worse.

Agholor is graded #47 out of 105. Not terrible (#46 last season).

Judon is graded #85 out of 102 (#24 pass rush grade). Terrible against the run.

Yeah I was limiting my post to reality, I know that’s not your thing.
