Mike Reiss of the Boston Globe reported this afternoon that Patriots wide receiver Chad Jackson has been released by the team, which comes as a surprise to most fans.  It’s unfortunate because Jackson has battled injuries the past couple of seasons and has never really played to his potential.  The team took him in the 2nd round of the 2006 NFL Draft out of the University of Florida, and Jackson played in just 12 games in ’06 and 2 in ’07, totaling 13 receptions for 152 yards and no touchdows.

How a guy who had such potential could be gone just two short seasons later is definitely a surprise, but I would have to assume Bill Belichick and company had their reasons. In the meantime here are a couple of videos on Jackson.

Jackson – Great Hands

Highlights of Jackson in High School:

As much as I would have liked to have seen Jackson stick around and give it another try this season, there just wasn’t the roster room. I think both Slater and Ventrone will prove to be better options on the 53.

  • could have had Devin Hester or Greg Jennings instead of Chad. Hard to believe we wouldn’t have kept him around whilst he’s still healthy.

  • yeah i am very surprised he got cut.seeing he had a real good game against the giants, and in preseason.it will be interesting to see if he’s brought back.i dunno.jackson really didn’t seem to get it.certainly had the talent.always believed route-running&discipline you can get w/ hard work/time,but talent you can’t steal.you either have it or you don’t.
to tell you the truth.john lynch getting cut was a much bigger surprize.slow?i don’t think so.hopefully he’ll be back.i think so.very glad to see big vince redd back.real good move.sign hank poteat.would be better than any corners we now have.of course, till’ wheatly&wilhitte blossum.your thoughts on this.
