    In BB I trust.

Ironically, Hoyer could be a reliable mentor for Daniel Jones in NY and could step in as Backup in lost-cause situations where they don't want to expose Jones, who seems to be the real deal.

Eli has made it clear to everyone that he isn't inclined to do much to help Jones, a la Favre and A-aaron. Hoyer brings a lot more as a mentor, given his time under Brady, Josh and Belichick, than the 31 year old Alex Tanney who hasn't managed to stick anywhere.

For all those who took the opportunity to start chattering this thread...what happens if Hoyer is back before game 1?

It shouldn't be a shock. Nor should it have been when he was cut.

The problem here is the extremes on both sides.

Stidham isn't ready to start or lead a team to anything any time soon. However he is young, talented & cheap. You role w that every time w the depth we have on this team.

The Hoyer camp tried telling us he could lead us to thw playoffs/SB (Never been a starter that won more then 3 games, limited arm/talent & 95% closer to the end than beginning) Thats just as foolish as thinking Stidham could handle starter duties. Hoyers value, real value is behind the scenes, which I've stated from the beginning (film/practice/locker room guy)

Hoyer is exactly the type you bring back after cuts or get him on the staff. He's just not a legit b/u QB you can expect to win w anymore.

The point still stands, because BB wasn't willing to expose Stidham to being snatched away by another team, whereas with Hoyer he was.

It's clear BB values Stidham more, so the next question is, why bring Hoyer back and take up a third spot on the 53 man roster for him?

Hoyer is not eligible for practice squad, and it's clear BB doesn't want to risk losing Stidham by putting him on the practice squad, so those doors are closed.

I suppose if we have players we want to move to IR that could happen, yet we're already being told that Thomas is being positioned for that move.

Maybe if we have more than 2 players to move to IR, or maybe if DT ends up on DEN as is rumored?

If you're Hoyer, do you really want to be brought back to be third string instead of keeping the guaranteed money and getting on with whatever is next in your life?

He gets $1,5M for not playing. Are you suggesting that Kraft pony up another $1M and pay Hoyer $2.5M?

Certainly, you aren't suggesting that Hoyer come back and play for no additional compensation.

Nor surprising. I wonder if he's the better man for the starting job there.

Your comment that he never won more than 3 games is incorrect. Hoyer would 7 games in 2014 and 5 games is 2015. Combined 12-10.

I don’t think anyone expects him to lead the team to a Sb but if Brady has to miss a few weeks winning some of those games could be the difference in seeding that could have an effect on winning a SB.

Hopefully Hoyer makes the horsies pay well for his services.

Looks like we have a bidding war.

Seems like the hypothetical "what if Hoyer returns" drama is crashing and burning.

3 games???? The guy won 8 games before he got hurt for the FREAKIN' Browns, before they had all the talent they do now.

Hoyer isn't an elite QB, but he's proven he can win in this league with a LOT less talent than what is on this team. He is just what THIS team needs if Brady went down. He IS a good game manager and that might just be enough with this defense and the type of BIG WR offense and running game we seem to have.

Stidham might be a more talented QB, but what makes a QB effective is how they process the game. Hoyer processes the game at a much higher level now. And while what Stidham has done so far bodes well for the future. The future isn't NOW, and this team is all about now.

So if Stidham isn't resigned at some point, they are taking a risk that, one, Brady will continue to be an iron man, and or, 2, Stidham will be a fast learner and at some point in the season be a better processor of the game than he is right now.

AND if he isn't resigned I won't be pissed that I carried the guy's water for the last several days. I'll be pissed that one of those SIX teams will sign him didn't send us a pick for the privilege. BAD, Bill

If he choses to come back to NE rather than go to IND, it'll say a lot about him not wanting to be in a role where he has a good shot of earning starting reps, IMO.

IND may find out pretty quickly that JB may not be the answer and/or may not know when/how to avoid a hit.

If IND leaked that they were interested, clearly they would be offering more money than what NE will be willing to pay.

Here he knows he gets short money and only plays if TB12 cannot play.

Maybe he's OK with what he has in the bank and is not seeking starting reps?

I believe this. I think Hoyer is at least as good as guys like Dalton and Flacco and is most certainly better than a lot of backups and younger QBs who are inevitably going to fall apart.

His best chance at reps could arguably be backup to a 42 year old.

Which means none of those six teams (maybe five if we are one who would resign him) would offer any sort of pick, even a "take Hoyer and a seventh for our sixth" kind of trade.

    How do we know?

Well if DEN just did that deal for Dawson, clearly we were shopping Hoyer around as well, IMO.

If for instance IND had serious intent, surely they call and ask about Hoyer yesterday, no?

I posted it a few times but didn't finish it on that post. Hes never been a starter on a team that won more than 3 games in a row.
