Gronk?

When Gronk returns in a few weeks Gillete will go wild. A few years ago Branch received a warm welcome home, but that is going to pale in comparison to Gronk coming back to save the day. The Patriots offense needs him.

Even a Gronk in his golden playing days is a match up problem. Did you see Gronk on Fox? He towered over Tony Gonzalez and Michael Strahan. All Brady had to do is see that Gronk has leverage on his route and throw the ball up where he can only haul it in. Dude has great hands.

What a story line for a movie as the Pat's try to go 19 - 0 again and win 7 Super Bowls more than any other NFL team.

Can't wait.

I can't even tell at this point if you're trolling. What position will Gronk play "in a few weeks?" Because he sure doesn't have the size to play his old TE spot at the moment.

Really?

How much does Gronk weigh right now? Has he ever lost weight and played for the Pats?

The troll here is you.

Edelman was just quoted "We need him"

Oh my gosh

Gronk wouldn't have the same weight leverage as before for blocking but he'd be better then average for a TE even with his current weight and skill. He's older and lighter...I'm going to guess he'd be as quick as his best days were with the Pats...which would be useful for route running.

The problem with a thread like this one is the crowd that believes that Gronk is faking his retirement will simply continue to "move the goal posts" so to speak. He is coming back in 1 week... 2 weeks... 3 weeks... One month... Two months... Three months... Next year... Two years...Some day... and on and on and on they will go never admitting that they are wrong and getting all sorts of undeserved attention every step of the way.

I’m not too sensitive but I do call people on certain things. “Disagree” is fine but have the courtesy to state the reason why you disagree.

I think Angelpat was thinking about “Agree”. If one agrees, no explanation is necessary!

Do you agree?!
@ fnordcircle does!
I disagree. It is a good tool to use when two people are going back and forth, arguing, for 2 pages and I agree/disagree with one of them. I might give one an “agree” and one a “disagree”. Do I really need to write it all out and reiterate all the points the other guy is making or will a “disagree” be self explanatory? I think most here are smart enough to figure it out, that it means I agree with the person you are arguing with.

We live in the era of Triggering.

Im still adjusting to the new normal.

And I'm sure at some point a Lions player said they needed Calvin Johnson. Did he come back?

He did come back. Remember? He brought Barry Sanders with him.

Oops. Wait a minute.

A couple of years ago I went to the Pats vs Broncos game. After the game there was basically a coral for Pats players and friends to meet and talk outside before the team boarded the bus. Charlie Weis was there. Almendola came out and I was shocked how he was not built and how thin he was. I expected a short but muscular guy. Hogan came out and was the same. Edelman is not a big guy either. They all block downfield without a problem that I am aware of.

Lacosse and Izzo are not huge guys. Kelce isnt exactly a monster and be blocks in this league.

So I place little stock in that Gronk is too light to play.

Have you heard anyone talk about how great LaCosse, Izzo or Kelce are at blocking?

And who are Edelman, Amendola and Hogan blocking downfield? 300 lb. linemen? Have you seen them pull off a lot of good wham blocks to open up running lanes?

If Gronk's weight loss would have no impact on his ability to do his job, then why didn't he shed the pounds 5 years ago?

I agree with this. There are exceptions to everything.

At least you took the time to explain why you disagree! Now I understand your point

I continue to hope #87 stays retired. He has been hit & hurt. When on the field, he came up huge so many times and in the final season, he didn’t grumble when his role changed. So much so that he was one of the main reasons the running game became dominant, yet was there for the incredible catches in the biggest spots.

He is retired. Good luck in your future endeavours, Gronk. We appreciate your time here. Stay retired.

You are majoring in the minors and missing the point.
There is no superstitious magic about gaining or losing weight and playing a sport.
At this point in time it does however indicate that Gronk is NOT training like he has
in the past and is NOT committed to playing in the NFL. Clear?

Jump starting the NE passing offense will open up the running offense. Brady would then have 3 trusted receiving assets - Andelman, Whitey and Gonk. Anybody else contributing passing wise would be gravy. When Henry is totally off IR protocol, the Pats can ease him into the offense slowly. With Gonk back in the fold, it will be far easier for Henry to establish himself in the Pros. It wont be life or death depending on him if he does not play well immediately.

Gronk did shed weight on the TB12 diet.

Obviously, Gronks first game back will be at home.

I figure the Cowboys game or the Chiefs. Either game could be nationally televised. If Gronk returned for the Cowboys, he would play in a total of 9 games assuming the future materializes as hoped. If Gronk is back for the Chiefs, that would be 7 games.

Im really leaning towards KC. Additional training time, 4 game schedule 3 of which are at home. A Bye week and then 3 games down the stretch concluding with the grand finale.
