Great job on FA day one! Pleased with the front office.

lol, nothing makes my eyes roll more than the cliche of the “veteran mentor,” as if any professional athlete wants to train their replacement. Brissett is here on a one-year contract; he wants to play and succeed, so he can get a bigger contract next year. A rookie QB’s success if of zero benefit to him.

I always think this is the most ridiculous thing whenever I hear it.
You really think Brissett doesn't know the real reason he's here?

why does everyone think it's an overpay, if he tested FA he might have had teams bidding on him and raising the price.
Because he's the 3rd highest paid RG in average and guaranteed money in the NFL. If many are saying it's overpay, there's a reason for it. Mediocre players are getting paid a lot of money these days, so a remotely decent to good player is going to command a lot more money by default. Robert Hunt is now among the highest paid in average and 3rd highest paid OL in the NFL in guarantees without any All Pro's or even one Pro Bowl nomination. He's getting paid like an elite LT. It's absolutely getting out of hand.

And by next year he will be the 7th highest when a bunch of other guys sign deals. That is the way free agency goes. I do think we "overpaid" but with the drastic increase in the cap the market is going to reset at various positions. If this was his market then it is hard to call it overpaying.

I think it depends on how you view him. When I saw the contract, my first thought was "that's tackle money" so he's our RT. If you view him as a guard, you would say its a overpay though it would be inline with the elite guards. Shaq Mason signed at just under 12 mil per and Thurney is at 16 mil per. At 19 mil per puts Onwenu at #3 salary for guards and #9 for tackles.
You can't really compare guard money from a couple of years ago with guard money today. A lot more money is being thrown around on th thrown around on the IOL now.

They are looking for a bridge mentor of high character who can help teach our rookie QB the AVP offense. Period. Full stop. Why is this such a hard concept for people to grasp?
Fantasy Football.

Brisket is available for good reason.

Perfect demeanor, staff knows him, won't turn it over, not expensive. Not exciting though - a more physical version of Hoyer.

That must be why all of his coaches and teammates laud those exact qualities about him. Brissett has been playing this role for years, and it’s an accurate depiction of the qualities he brings to the teams he’s on.

I think Hunt got over 100 million, and Onwenu can play tackle and guard at a high level.

GQ has pushed that for years and it doesn't work in the real world. Unless you're a millionaire, you can't pull that off.

so guys are "pleased" that the Patriots resigned a swing tackle/guard, a third receiver, retained Duggar, signed a cheap third down back, and signed a QB with an 18-30 record as a starter. guess people don't want to win games and make the playoffs anymore. the Patriots had a bottom 5 roster talent-wise in 2023...that has not changed.
The team is still without a left tackle, starting quality quarterback, a legitimate NFL wide receiver...but, go ahead, keep being "pleased".
The way their approaching this off-season makes one think Krafty Bob is A OK with another 16 ppg season and top 10 pick ..
The Pats did part of what they needed to as part of the team building process…keep core guys on the team that fill roles of need (Henry, Onwenu, Bourne and hopefully Duggar). They signed a vet QB to fill a role as a 1 year bridge QB to allow the QB they draft at #3 time to develop. They signed a proven RB who can spell Stevenson and also be used effectively as a 3rd down, pass catching back. Not to mention they added LB depth after losing Wilson.

That was all done before day 1 of FA was over…what’s there not to pleased about honestly…

Now on to the rest of FA and the draft to continue the rebuild process.

Which QB did you want that you wouldn’t have also complained about?
None…we could have signed ************ or Uncle Rico as our new QB and some would still complain on this board.

There is no alternative to what they have done, its still 4/10.. the NFL shafted the worst teams with good cap space by enabling better teams to be able to keep the better free agents with the bigger cap rise than expected on Franchise tags or pre free agent deals. The NFL is manipulating to favour the current better teams. What it is enabling the worse teams to do is get rid of the rubbish by allowing that cap rise to cover dead money.

Can you please provide a source that demonstrates how the NFL has an agenda with the cap and makes up a number to fit that agenda?
My understanding is that the cap is derived through a formula, and it is in a contract with the NFLPA. It is data driven. The number is based on revenue.

Or, we could go try and decode the jet trails to see what the inner circle of the deep state is doing to us.

Considering he signed with the Cardinals, I'd say it's a pretty safe bet. They let him walk over a million dollars a year.
And they signed the guy who took his job in Cleveland.

There are some good free agent free safeties available. Justin Simmons, Camren Kurl, Jordan Fuller, tally like to see them lock one of them up.

You can complain without offering alternatives. It's a valid thing to do.

Sure, complains carry more weight when you do offer alternatives but just saying "No, I don't like that" is valid.

I'm not speaking to validity so much as quality of contribution from community members.

What's corrosive are posts that only say, "I don't like signing this guy, would have preferred another guy." Which guy? Why?

So how’s everyone feeling after Day 2?

So how’s everyone feeling after Day 2?
It's very early, but they are still the same team as last year. It's Deja Vu with posters super excited when there was no improvements going into the 2023 season. This might be a 2000 season where the team gets stripped a bit before signing better players next year.

Signing a bunch of FA's to big deals is not how to build the team anyways. Need to draft well.

So how’s everyone feeling after Day 2?
I’m surprised there wasn’t little more action, but I feel the same as I did yesterday. What I want is smart decisions, not quick ones. I’m already confident that they will win more games this coming season than they did last season, and there’s still months of moves to go, plenty of money available to make those moves, and we haven’t even hit a draft where they will be getting their best picks in over 20 years. For what I wanted to see out of this front office they are doing a really good job. There seems to be a good amount of criticism of moves they haven’t made, or been able to make, but little criticism of the moves they have made. Some didn’t like the Raagor or Uche signings, and a few complained that Onwenu and Duggar were paid a little to much, but in all likelihood the same people would have been screaming bloody murder if they had gotten away. And I’m sure there will be some whining if Ridley stays in Jacksonville, but ts pretty clear that’s where he wants to be, so there’s not much they can do about that. At any rate I’m looking forward to tomorrow, hopefully some more good players will sign here.
