Goodell at League Meeting: I think our officials do an extraordinary job

wait...after all this time with this moron you guys DIDN'T see this coming?

this is nothing anyway...when he gets in front of the 3 judge appeal panel in March we'll have to have the surgeon general on hand to handle all the broken ribs from uncontrolled laughter in these parts.

I have never had so much dislike /disdain for someone as much as I have for Jerk Goodell Every time I hear him speak or read something he has quoted my blood starts to boil.

they keep him because he makes them billions of dollars per year...no other reason

The NFL game sells itself. It's the best friggin sport on the planet, period(IMHO), despite how the NFL echo chamber seems to want to find ways to diminish it.

I challenge anyone to show me how the viewing product has changed due to Goodell that has made it a better viewing product.
I challenge anyone to show me where Goodell pulled off a singularly awesome deal that made the NFL more accessible to fans, more omnipresent and the profitability graph spiked unexpectedly.
I challenge anyone to show me how, for example, hiring Drew Rosenhaus to run the business side would then not have resulted in getting absurdly sweet deals from every TV station with a deep pocket.

Due to the awesomeness of the game itself, the NFL commissioner has only a couple of overarching tasks on the business side: (A) don't do something to screw it up. Given the media lapdogs I think the commissioner would have to murder people to screw it up. (B) Hire good negotiators and lawyers to define the deals with the TV networks.

IMHO Goodell has done one thing singularly well. Goodell has orchestrated a machine that flattens those who go against the machine. The NFL can operate with "huh? what the hell are they doing" yet pay no price for that. I do give him credit for that. I don't like it but he has done that very well (is it a good thing he has done it is another question).

Somehow despite his ineptitude the NFL continues to flourish, imagine how well the League could do if he had a competent leader???

None of this is about the game it is about solidifying his base and presenting doublespeak to appease the power elite of the NFL... if you repeat a lie often enough, somehow it becomes the truth.

This season after the weekend the conversations are always the same for all teams, injuries and officiating. It's ruining the NFL entertainment.

I wouldn't expect Goodell to say anything different than what he said about the refs. If he knocks the refs he is knocking the league.

Still waiting for someone from the press corp to ask him why he manipulated Brady's testimony....

Now with Rachel Nichols going to ESPN we know she won't do it.

It's all a matter of perspective. Roger, looking at the refs' performance from his vantage point of fouling up 100% of everything he touches, sees the refs spectacularly blowing only a fistful of calls per game and concludes they are doing an extraordinary job. The rest of us in the normal world are left gobsmacked at the universal NYJFL incompetence and corruption.

Seeing that Goody thinks Troy Vincent, Mike Kensil and Ted Wells do a great job, you can certainly understand how warped his perception of reality is.

It's simple: that quote was nothing more than The Dope's knee-jerk reaction to the officials' performance Sunday night in Denver. From his perspective, it was genuinely "extraordinary." Translation: they f##### NE. That's "extraordinary."

Upon reflection it's a good thing Goodell does not post here because then Ian would have to ban most of us for posting a veritable blizzard of Dislikes.

I'm reasonably certain all people ask is that penalties are called consistently NOT like the hatchet job on SNF.

This.

I normally don't complain about if I think the game is called correctly or somewhat evenly but no one watching that game other than delusional people (broncos fans/ultra Pats haters) could say that was an evenly called game.

It's just insane how there is an exact example of Pats getting called for stuff and the broncos not getting called for the same thing

Vollmer got called for illegal hands to the face in the 4th quarter. Yet no call on the hands to the face on the TD pass.

Chung gets called for holding. Talib in OT doesn't. (Then there was also the hold on McCourty on the gw TD)

Gronk gets called for OPI. Thomas on the play Chung got called for holding does not. If Gronk committed OPI than Thomas definitely did.

Tre Jackson gets called for holding on a 5o yard pass. Hold against Easley on the 40 yard pass to Thomas. Ya and I heard about the "rip move" but frankly it's ******** because there is an an exception to that rule it is

Holding will be called if the defender’s feet are taken away from him by the offensive player’s action.

If you watch that play Easley's feet are taking away because he falls over and catches himself.

You guys crack me up. What would you expect him to say?

What would you expect any CEO to say about a part of their operation?

"yes sir media members. Everything my organization is doing out there is terrible and needs to be corrected. Please go and publish articles now about my incompetence"

As his Super Bowl press conference Goodell was asked if his really bad year had taught him anything and he responded that out had really taught him "humility." The next question was whether his poor performance could cause concern for his job? His response was to start laughing and say " Absolutely not." He clearly learned some humility............

Great leaders do. Some CEOs are good leaders. Some are not.

All depends on how secure you are in your job and you have solutions to the problem.

Goodell is not a good leader and is an incompetent buffoon.
