Going to Pittsburgh Game - How to Sit with Pats Not Steelers Fans

Thanks for the tips. Recommendations needed for:

1. Hotel near/convenient to stadium;
2. Getting from Pitt airport to hotel (rail, Uber, etc?)
3. Pittsburgh Pats fans party Saturday night?

Thanks again

Check out the Patriots Tailgate group on Facebook, lots of good information.

So my son and I are flying from Texas to Pittsburgh for the December 17 showdown. Need 2 tickets. Is there a designated visitor section at Heinz Field? How can I be assured of sitting with other Pats fans?

Outside of Ted Johnson's sister, I was the only Pat s fan I saw at the 2001 AFCCG.

2004 was so cold, it wasn't an issue because most Steelers fan knew what was coming.

September 2005 found more Pats fans ( I shook Willie and Vince's hand) and most Steeler's fans knew what was coming.

With these tickets so expensive on Stubhub, a good Pats fans showing seems more likely with Xmas and some fans not wanting to witness the "inevitable".

RECOMMENDATIONS

On Saturday, go down to The Strip with your Pats gear. If you feel comfortable.....the game should be fine.

At the game, when going to your seats, say "Hello" to the people around.

I would buy a souvenir Terrible Towel and join the opening festivities.

...but don't disrespect the Terrible Towel.

Most Steelers fans are so shellshocked over the past 16 years, celebrating should not be an issue.

Please be careful...don't wear Pats stuff....Pittsburgh fans are troglodytes and will verbally and physically assault you if you have Pats gear on...

I went to Heinz Field last year and none of this is true. Most Steelers fans were respectful and only said they were jealous of how much brady owns them. They hate brady because of how good he is. I went out to steelers bars after the game with my pats jersey on and again no violence or threatening remarks. Their were a couple rowdy fans but nothing out of the ordinary. Most of them just drank with the pats fans.

Pre game I went to a patriots tailgate bar in Pittsburgh. It was a planned event with a Facebook group open invite to all patriots fans. Hundreds showed up it was a good time. Checkout patriots visiting tailgate groups on Facebook I bet they are planning something again this year

I’ll tell you this. Giants and Bills fans were far more hostile than Steelers fans were

I live in Pittsburgh.

Seriously, do not wear Pats stuff man. I wear my Pats jersey to WORK and get **** from people I don't even know.

Steelers fans legitimately hate New England more than any other team in the NFL and it isn't even remotely close. They believe this is a bigger rivalry than the Ravens and you will 100% get confronted.

Nobody is worse than Eagles fans and it's not like they have a big rivalry with the 49ers.

Of COURSE they do....and they have every right to. The Pats have owned the Steelers in Foxboro and Pittsburgh alike for the better -part of 2 DECADES. Remember in both years the Steelers won the Superbowl. then didn't have to face the Pats.

In the 80's our most hated team was the Dolphins. Why? Because we could rarely win at home, and NEVER won in Miami. THAT finally ended in the 85 AFCCG, but before that Pats fans really hated the Dolphins. We used to say all the stuff about Shula and Marino, that Steeler fans were saying about Brady and Bellichick.

I have worn Pats gear for several games vs the Jets. and once in Philly and Miami. Never had much trouble, other than the normal "your team's gonna get it's ass kicked" crap that you'd expect. Be friendly with those around you, and you should be OK.

My guess is that if any problems occur, its going to happen AFTER the game, especially if the Pats win. So I agree with those who suggest that it would be a good idea to cover up the Pats gear after the game is over.

This wouldn't happen in Gillette, people would get kicked out immediately. This is an ownership problem.

Wow that's disgusting. Constantly being bombarded with snowballs. That's assault. All those assholes throwing snowballs should have been charged, thrown in jail and banned from attending games at that Stadium.

Ha! And the owner wanted to buy the Pats too. Imagine that!

Well I’m not gonna generalize because I hear a lot of people say they were treated fine but I didn’t have a good experience.

Wore a pats jersey to a game in 05, started off having eggs launched at me during tailgate - I couldn’t even see where the damn things were coming from seemed like it was almost over one of the thousand bridges there.. Honestly was more impressed than angry !

Then over the course of the day 2 or 3 people got right in my face - so much hostility towards us and it was fairly early in the rivalry.

I went last year and had a great time. People were friendly and if you think Pittsburgh is your typical rundown Rust Belt picture of urban decay, then you are wrong. Pretty clean and plenty going on. I suggest Oakland (near Pitt) or South Side. Game day, I easily Ubered in to the stadium. You can buy beers at windows in the surrounding restaurants and drink them along the river. Pretty cool setup. The only sort of run-in I had, was some dude yelled what sounded like “bandwagon” as he passed me. They do believe Brady cheated, and yes they are troglodytes, but they are friendly troglodytes.

He probably called you a jackwagon. Which actually is kind of polite compared to whatever else he could've profanely spewed.

If people are so afraid of other fans then its best to stay home. Lock the doors.

Ive been to over a dozen of road games and in fact never been to Foxboro. Been to STL, KC x 3, INDY x 3, PITT, HOUSTON, DENVER x 4, SD, NY, CIN, MINN, CHAMPAGNE, ILL.

Big deal if people talk. Most will have respect for you having the guts to wear what you want.

You may be right, but what’s the point of going to a game without pats gear?

Exactly.

What are you going to do if NE scores or makes a big play on 3rd down?

Yeah, but if you want to reduce your chances of being set upon by drunken Pittsburgh fans, DO NOT WEAR PATS GEAR. It's common sense...especially if going to the game with a little kid

If it comes down to it, you can text stadium security. There are cops everywhere.

If you go to any college or NFL game expect drunk people. Occasionally, drunk NE fans are worst than the home team fans.

Really? They can see your Pats t-shirt under your green Subway polo? Maybe if you’d hurry up and make those sandwiches, you’d get treated more kindly. It’s you and not the gear.

I’m kidding!

@QB12 -
I am from Pittsburgh and would recommend the following:
If you can spend the money, stay downtown and just walk (it’s the most compact, walkable city I’ve ever experienced.)
If you want to save money, stay near a train stop (they also call it the T). There’s a Motel 6 on Banksville Rd with a short uphill walk to the Potomac T.
There is a Springhill Suites in uptown Mt Lebanon with a T stop next to it).
The T is slow but you avoid the traffic (it’s a city full of bridges and tunnels).
