Gilmore traded to Carolina

That was reported this morning. Who knows what's accurate anymore but they apparently asked him to take a pay cut and he said no.
Link?

While this move was also about Salary Cap it is not about Cap Room. Pats have plenty of cap room going forward (you have to look at 2023 as well) and can create it when needed. There is some limited flexibility for this season (for variety of reasons) but enough to manage wo this trade.

I dont think NE secondary is anywhere near great wo Gilmore (it is still decent) but it might not be significantly better with unhappy Gilmore if he wanted to play under this (guaranteeless) contract at all.
Reportedly they had $54,000 in cap space this year.

Also the idea that cap space can be created does not make what it would take to do so the right move. It’s a zero sum gain, cap space freed up today comes due later. Teams have to balance how much if their cap is being used to field a team and how much has been borrowed to pay for last years.

Do you think Belichick is losing control of this team?

Not necessarily. On the field, they’re integrating all these new players, trying to form an identity, with a rookie QB. There’s no question they’ve been undisciplined and they’ve been playing losing football, but I think it’s fixable. I just think the personnel/GM decisions are clearly at a point where they’re no longer a small sample size.

Let me clarify that I don’t believe Bill Belichick is an idiot, or a fool, or that I know 1/50th as much about football as him. What I’m suggesting, again, is that for some reason the organization has become dysfunctional. I don’t know why. I don’t know how. I’ve suggested that lack of checks/balances and outsiders to challenge the groupthink could be at play. Maybe they’ve adopted a contrarian attitude to common sense decisions or their self-confidence has reached a level of delusion. I don’t know any of this. Maybe it’s many reasons.

But it‘s clear that the organization was dysfunctional from roughly 2017-19 and likely beyond, with power struggles between players (Brady, Gronkowski) and the coach/GM (Belichick.). Guerrero and the training staff. They had a scam artist (Easterby) move up the ranks. They had an internal QB controversy (Brady/Jimmy). They had all the controversy of SB52. They had their company man, Brady, venting in an interview. Their Hall of Fame tight end retiring and opting for WWE over playing for them. Kraft’s scandal. The AB decision, where Bill and Bob appeared to be at odds. There were lots of rumors about why McDaniels reneged with the Colts and what he was promised. The coach’s son, seemingly a moron, has moved way up the ranks, while they’ve lost a lot of coaches: Flores, Judge, Scar, along with Adams and a ton of assistants.

It is sad to see that business as usual move (that i am very unhappy with) triggers such brainwashed posts.
Looks like mediots have some power after all.

btw - Dallas just straight released Jaylon Smith who is 26, played last week, in 3rd year of big 5y contract, eating 16.6M dead money.

How do you know it wasn't the team that suggested he go on PUP? They do that stuff to stash players all the time. I doubt he requested it. They were at a contract impasse and probably the team stashed him there until they resolve the issue. If they didn't his contract would of become guaranteed week1 as he sat.
A team can’t force you to sit out practice and put you on pup.
Why would the team want to pay him to not play? That makes no sense.

you wanted proof........I gave it to you

you're the guy everyone has to listen to, nod their heads, and wait for it to be over

what's pathetic is this masculinity game you play........you pretend, that's all
Who hurt you?

Oh, I get it…a really level-headed guy here, totally unbrainwashed, counters what I wrote with:

WHATTTAAAABBBBOOOUUUT DALLAS!

Thanks for all your insight.

What makes you think Steve Belichick is a moron? I have no strong opinion about the guy because I know so little about him. Do you know him personally?

They are almost completely different situations.

We paid Gilmore CB1 money when everyone here said it was an overpay.

So if JC Jackson plays like a cb1 wouldn't surprise me if they paid him like one. Since they traded for Talib. Bill has been okay with paying for corners.

Talib, revis, butler, Gilmore
The nuance is I'm pretty sure it WONT be highest paid CB in the league money (or even top 3) the Patriots offer and he COULD get that from someone else if he continues his solid play this year.

Other factors exist too that we're not privy to that might either cause them to or not to be in the JC Jackson market. Historically they have allocated $$ to the CB1 spot as you said, but have also cut ties for money (Revis, Ryan, Samuel and now Gilmore) and other reasons (Butler).

They might try the trade route as well - that's how they've gotten all three of their last CB1s (Talib, Revis and Gilmore).

BB has always said that real football always starts after Thanksgiving. By that time you know what kind of team you have and how the season is going to turn out (assuming the team is not a lost cause before then).

Right. He was abusing rules that pay genuinely injured players for contract leverage.
Let's not act like organization don't do things to save a buck on players. Gilmore had a loophole.

I would have thought they could have got a mid rounder for him. But I don’t expect him to be the same player going forward, age/injuries and whatnot.

Chris Canty was so bad that Pete Carroll paid Troy Brown extra money at practice to "drop" a few while Canty was covering him to improve his confidence. I guess Jefferson and Brown used to whip Canty in practice like a practice dummy and make him cry.
Do you have a source? Never heard of this before....I have a hard time believing Troy would drop balls on purpose.....

Gilmore is playing for $7 mil for Carolina this year.

Gilmore is playing for ~$5.8 Million this year and that is only for 11 games at most (he's on the PUP list for 2 more games). The Patriots already paid him for the first 3 games.

But who says he doesn't have a handshake "We'll take care of it after you get here" deal? The clock was ticking and at 4:00 PM, Gilly was free to anyone, so they had to move quickly. They might even have had a verbal agreement. We shall soon see.

Felger and Mazz shredded Bill today:

Why was Thuney franchise tagged in 2020. Only to see him walk out the door after the season anyways? Newton was QB. Not your QB of the future. Why not trade Thuney and get value?

Why not trade Gilmore after the 2019 season. Knowing he was 30. At his highest value? Instead, the Patriots keep him during a "Reset" year and get only a 6th for him because he's injured this year.

KVN makes 6 million per year. Why?

I think these guys are trouble makers. But they aren't totally out to lunch on some of these points.

What kind of KC fan listens to this show?
