Gilmore traded to Carolina

Ok, then I guess I'll be alone in thinking lying about your health status and watching your team lose when you could be out there helping is embarrassing.

Should Carolina believe him if/when he says he's hurt, or just wire some money into his bank account?
It was clear he was using his injury as an excuse to hold out.

Let me clarify that I don’t believe Bill Belichick is an idiot, or a fool, or that I know 1/50th as much about football as him. What I’m suggesting, again, is that for some reason the organization has become dysfunctional. I don’t know why. I don’t know how. I’ve suggested that lack of checks/balances and outsiders to challenge the groupthink could be at play. Maybe they’ve adopted a contrarian attitude to common sense decisions or their self-confidence has reached a level of delusion. I don’t know any of this. Maybe it’s many reasons.

But it‘s clear that the organization was dysfunctional from roughly 2017-19 and likely beyond, with power struggles between players (Brady, Gronkowski) and the coach/GM (Belichick.). Guerrero and the training staff. They had a scam artist (Easterby) move up the ranks. They had an internal QB controversy (Brady/Jimmy). They had all the controversy of SB52. They had their company man, Brady, venting in an interview. Their Hall of Fame tight end retiring and opting for WWE over playing for them. Kraft’s scandal. The AB decision, where Bill and Bob appeared to be at odds. There were lots of rumors about why McDaniels reneged with the Colts and what he was promised. The coach’s son, seemingly a moron, has moved way up the ranks, while they’ve lost a lot of coaches: Flores, Judge, Scar, along with Adams and a ton of assistants.

How do you know he's lying? Even if he is he has every right not to play until he is happy with his compensation.

How do you know it wasn't the team that suggested he go on PUP? They do that stuff to stash players all the time. I doubt he requested it. They were at a contract impasse and probably the team stashed him there until they resolve the issue. If they didn't his contract would of become guaranteed week1 as he sat.

I agree. There definitely seems to be too much smoke to be no fire when it comes to everything going on the last few years. I don't know if it's just swollen egos after 20 years of winning or Bill maybe refusing to adapt to the current times but I think there is some oversight lacking. I don't know if there has been anyone in the building to challenge Bill in a while and I think it is having negative consequences on the organization as a whole.

Could have been an agreement that he will play half the season for half the money he wants then walks next year. Looks like it may have worked had Bill not wanted to reduce his salary even further.

we'll find out more next week when Wickersham's book comes out...

Both takes were as extreme to each end of the spectrum of posters I've seen recently as I could make up.

Although through all that as someone pointed out I forgot to add "fire McDaniels" in there too.
lol, sorry, with some of the recent posts, thought it was serious.

According the the Panthers, he'll be playing the very first week he's eligible a/k/a week 7.

It was clear he was using his injury as an excuse to hold out.
Right. He was abusing rules that pay genuinely injured players for contract leverage.

How do you know he's lying?
Because he said he could play all the way back in July and even afterwards, read Curran's reporting.

Even if he is he has every right not to play until he is happy with his compensation.
Really? Is that in the contract he signed, or in the CBA, or just something you're making up?

If he was a genuine holdout he would not be paid, but he was.

Do you think Belichick is losing control of this team?

Right. He was abusing rules that pay genuinely injured players for contract leverage.

So then why not just reach an injury settlement or cut him then? Not sure what is so "embarrassing". If anything I think he played the organization like a fiddle and it's the team that should be embarrassed to get almost nothing for him when they could've gotten something significantly better at the deadline last year.

This is shocking news ! Very disappointing. What compensation are we getting for him ? Some of these moves make no sense.

Like you wrote earlier, we don't have to agree on how we see things.

Proof of mismanagement would be if someone else swoops in and offers Carolina a second rounder like many here suggested should have been available for him, but I would not bet on that happening.

Short of that, we'll get to see in Game 7 what we should have seen in Game 1, some footage of Gilmore playing football.

I’m more than fine with not being universally liked. Comes with the territory of living. I more found it hilarious that a 60 year old man got so incensed that he decided to out himself as a hen amongst hens via PM. That’s pretty pathetic. As I told you before, I legitimately feel bad for you.
I like you Kotra!

Could be both. Every great coach ages out eventually and loses the ability to communicate and motivate the younger generations. But it’s still a long season.

We only have 27M in cap room until this trade for 2022. This will give us much needed relief. We have numerous key FA. Our secondary is great without Gilly and he won’t be back next year.

While this move was also about Salary Cap it is not about Cap Room. Pats have plenty of cap room going forward (you have to look at 2023 as well) and can create it when needed. There is some limited flexibility for this season (for variety of reasons) but enough to manage wo this trade.

I dont think NE secondary is anywhere near great wo Gilmore (it is still decent) but it might not be significantly better with unhappy Gilmore if he wanted to play under this (guaranteeless) contract at all.
