Gilmore traded to Carolina

That was reported this morning. Who knows what's accurate anymore but they apparently asked him to take a pay cut and he said no.

That would be insane from ziegler or whatever clown is in the NE front office.

This is going to look worse every week for the Pats as Gilmore plays and the Pats did this to.... save 4m bucks

The Pats would have been better served keeping Gilmore happy, possibly keep Thuney too, and not sign 1 of the 2 tight ends.

With the situation it is now, they better extend JC Jackson ASAP and lock this kid in for 5 years.

.

If he plays too well and won't take a pay cut "for the team", the patriots will let JC Jackson walk.

I think the only patriots we re-signed for big money were Logan Mankins (who told kraft to F off and sat out, it worked!) , Devin McCourty, and our two TE's hernandez and gronk who immediately showcased hall of fame level talent at an important position.

I agree about Jackson. We won't pay him CB1 money.

I have no idea what's going on. Maybe he was not going to play for this team without a new deal but sometimes a change of venue does the trick. Maybe the reports of a pay cut are BS.

Their game against the cowboys says otherwise. Also when someone says the Pats defense has been good, they'll say "they played houston, nyj and no, etc..." which are 3 teams the panthers played. So if the panthers are good guess that makes the Pats defense good
To be fair, it says they have the second best defense by “EPA per play.” However, to your point, that DAL game was atrocious both via run/pass. An anomaly. They have a very talented young squad who got caught up on the road against another talented squad. The CAR O didn’t make things any easier, allowing 5 sacks/11 hurries, 2 INTs. Clearly couldn’t sustain drives, which lead to field day by DAL. Sh*t happens. Once they get the best RB in the league, YGM & Horn back (add Gilly too) they’ll be fine.

We paid Gilmore CB1 money when everyone here said it was an overpay.

So if JC Jackson plays like a cb1 wouldn't surprise me if they paid him like one. Since they traded for Talib. Bill has been okay with paying for corners.

Talib, revis, butler, Gilmore

Belichick isn't afraid to spend money for CB1's. He got great ones Samuel, Law, Revis, Talib, and Gilmore. All have an arguable case to get into Canton.

However...guys who come up through New England system, he expects them to take a "pay cuy" for the "patriot way"

Carolina seems like a middler team to me. It all depends if Darnold can continue to produce at a high level.

Well as you know, Bill walks on water here on this forum. Some people here foolishly believe he's as great a GM as he is an X's and O's defensive coach.

He used to be outstanding. The league has caught up. It happens to everyone. Gary Kasparov used to be the best, made his mark as perhaps the greatest ever…and he still has the same mind and is brilliant, but he isn’t going to be the world’s greatest ever again…not even close.

He's near 70 now. At some point its time to get out
He doesn't look like he's actually 'lost it' to me. He just believes in how to run a team and it has served us well. Better hope we found the QB1 because that's really what matters most. Without that nothing else matters. I think they'll keep Jackson at a competitive contract, but no one expects BB to offer #1 money at any position for basically any player over a long term deal. Maybe kicker?

We didn't pay Talib. We got him for a 4th rounder and then only paid him $5mil the next year. Denver gave him his big contract. We got Revis on the cheap for a one year deal and then the Jets paid him. We never paid Butler either. Gilmore is the only one we paid and let's face it, Jackson is not close to Gilmore's level but he is going to command CB1 contract. I doubt Bill gives it to him but who knows. I certainly hope he does.

He’s been a terrible GM since 2013. Looked to break the slump this offseason only to revert back to his blunders picking up Wynn’s option, trading Michel (who he values blocking and ball control over ability) and now trades there best CB for a 6th. Yikes!

Started long before that. We franchised Asante Samuel in 07, We paid Leigh Bodden very good money in 10. We went through a rough stretch of missing on corners in the draft (Wilhite, Wheatley, Butler, T Wilson, IR Dowling) but then he found his stride in 2013 with Ryan, Harmon, and signing FAs Talib and Revis.

What happened to Yetur Gross-Matos?

They have the defense to lock down the Buc's receivers now, plus a very good front 7.

He hasn't been terrible. He's signed some good UFAs. Isn't Jackson one of them? He might be the highest paid CB next year. Lots of blunders though you are right.

He hasn't drafted a pro bowler since 2013 unless you count our punter lol
