Bill has done Mac and himself a great disservice this year. He wasted a crucial year in a young quarterback's development by having him coached up by a defensive coordinator. Bill screwed himself, Mac, and Patricia with this move and we have basically no more clarity on whether Mac can be the guy or not.

After that Herbert, hurts and Brady around 35 million a year .

Rest all should be incentive laden.

Lamar is doing more with less but he gets eliminated in post season. So all regular season performance is moot.

That is not how contracts work. Deserve has nothing to do with it. It is about how much another club is willing to pay and we have seen that there is always another club willing to pay

So unless you luck out in the draft - which gets you 4 years max as you have to extend early or risk losing him - you either pay up or get stuck with crap QB Play.

You can scrape Tua, Ryan, Carr, Prescott and Murray right off that list. None of them are top tier quarterbacks. Drop Rodgers (who has a ring) as well, he's not going to be top tier moving forward during any short time he has left in the league.

That list right there is going to dominate the AFC playoff picture for the next decade. Collectively multiple Super Bowls will be won. That's happening.

Cousins , Watson, Russell Wilson are not going to win a Superbowl ring. So drafting franchise QB is like winning the lottery again . Odds are better if we have a well rounded team with superstar wide receivers and above average QB . Every team is going to have maybe 1 ring in a decade. No point risking it by signing any QB unless they are mahomes, Josh Allen, Brady or Burrow.

Huh? If you are not willing to pay top money for a top QB you will have to settle for rookie contracts or average contracts for average QBs.

Brady's below market contracts were an exception. No other QB has shown the willingness to take those contracts.

If that's the case then bill needs to retire now because the Patriots will be a bottom franchise if he runs it with that mindset. You don't win with bargain basement shopping.

All of the "bill is smarter than everyone!" With his bargain basement shopping was because Brady made it work. And even then sometimes he couldn't and it looked bad...(2006, 2019)

If I were him, I'd call it a career after this season. He owns all the records and has zero to prove. Not to mention, his kids obviously won't be kids forever.

As I understand it, it's not about records and never has been. He's always stated the one thing he fears the most is life after football.

Compare this with Michael Jordan who had such a hard time leaving the game he had to seek therapy. And even now, Jordan has said on occasion, that he would give up everything just to go back and play one game in his prime.

I've always maintained that retirement is going to be pure hell for Brady.

First off, not lots of rookie QBs look great. That's just revisionist history to fit your narrative. If that's the case maybe you shouldn't be so high on zappe because he beat up in bad teams and the only tape on him is from college?

You aren't doing anything to disprove my point. I agree year 2 is important but how do you evaluate year 2 when the coaching was so bad and everything regressed? All I'm saying is it's a lost year of evaluation. Nothing crazy.

The fact that Patricia might be shown the door and the coaching staff is being blown up to hire a real OC tells how Bill feels about this year. And it doesn't fit your narrative.

You don't completely discount an assessment of your franchise quarterback because he had some bad things around him. Mac didn't play well in 2022 after finishing the the 2021 season poorly. His last 20 starts (going back to week 13 of 2021), Mac has 22 TDs and 18 INTs, and a 8-12 record. His overall play has been poor for well over a full season now. He'll have another opportunity with a third OC next season so we'll see how that goes but he if plays well or plays poorly it's on him. 1st round quarterbacks generally are not afforded as many excuses as Mac's had to this point.

Yeah they are. Most teams don't bail on their 1st round drafted QB's after two seasons. Three, sure if they're truly bad like that kid on the Jets.

Thing is, we don't know with Mac since he regressed in large part because of the Matty P/Judge experiment.

2) If we choose, we probably could move up to #5 this year, or high enough to get one of the "top" prospects. This player would likely be around the quality of Jones. And yes, then rinse and repeat if neither works out.

If the prospects are like Jones no point in going up. Unless we absolutely believe in a QB with mahomes/Herbert/Allen/Burrow type of potential , no use to trade up for a QB. We have 3 more years with rookie QB. Just ride the wave . If we perform badly, we will be able to draft the next better one.

If Superbowl is the goal then we might not need to draft a stud QB as long as we develop the team on both sides of ball.
