It seems like money is being thrown around like crazy this first day of FA.

it always is the first day of FA...90% of these guys are way overpaid

Linval Joseph to Vikings.

Well the Pats would have a lot more cap space if they weren't so cheap!!

If they didn't always spend to the cap, they'd have more cap space to be cheap with!

Browns fans are saying TJ Ward is a liability in coverage. We better hope so....

yes, guys are being overpaid, but that also drives up the price of the elite guys at their position (well drives up the price for everybody really)

It's rare to find a true SS that isn't a liability in coverage. It's all a matter of degree, really.

One thought: if Blaine Gabbert is worth a 6, on that bloated first-found contract of his, how is Mallett worthless?

As NFL.com's Judy Battista predicted earlier today, John Elway's MO has been to make some aggressive day 1 moves in FA, then wait a few weeks, and clean up a few holes at low cost. I pretty much expected them to make some moves. Jared Allen wouldn't surprise me at all.

If FA were over now, Denver would clearly have improved themselves relative to the Pats. :ranger:

Now this part (from Mary Kay Cabot, on Adam Schefter's Twitter page) does piss me off:

T.J. Ward's deal with #Broncos is worth average of $5.5 million a year/

That will be VERY annoying if true.

If FA were over now, they'd be much, much worse than they were last year due to a bunch of unfilled holes. That's true about many teams, but even truer for the Broncos than it is for the Pats.

We have far fewer of our own guys to re-sign just to get back to where we were than Denver does.

Feel free to take a look at the dumpster fire that was the Patriots 2013 FA shopping spree. Again, it's perfectly reasonable not to be thrilled by the events of today. This is not the 2002-2007 Patriots, where FA was a goldmine. That front office hasn't been around for a while.

Damn, Broncos got a good deal on Ward.

Although Denver has a lot of caproom, keep in mind guys, both Thomas' are in contract years. Gotta think the tight end is look at 8-10 next year(Pitta got 6 lol) and the wide out 10-14.

That's a lot for a Strong Safety.

Lot of crazy rumours, the last one i heard was Smith to NE, Mallet to Houston and Panthers get Houston's 2nd

I'm not advocating a repetition of the 2013 FA experience, and you know it. But it's far too early to make that declaration.

It's a good point. To anyone who would claim "but we have no evidence of how good Mallett actually is or isn't", the simple counter is "You're right, It's theoretically possible that, as a worst case scenario, he might be as bad as Blaine Gabbert."

This is one of the cases where not knowing helps. At the very worst he's as bad as Gabbert, but by virtue of being an unknown you can pretty much assume that he's better.

You have to give it up for the Broncos front office...first Welker for 6M/year, and now this? Are you kidding me?
