Since MacDaniels returned as OC in 2012 the Patriots were the highest scoring team in football-29.5, highest red zone TD scoring a game 62.1, and fewest turnovers -86. He also helped lead them to the most conference Championships-5, and most Lombardi’s-3.

Again, "the entire playbook is open" to Mac. He's not being throttled, baby stepped, held by the hand, or any of the other nonsense we choose to believe. Mac himself is choosing to be "risk averse."
How do we know the #1, #2, #3, etc reads on a particular play as called to be able to answer the question? It isn't sandlot football where the play is just drawn up without a planned route progression.

Based on the two games, the guess is an educated one that the rookie is more comfortable with the shorter throws because of sheer numbers and availability of other options we see on videotape, but it remains just that - a guess because we have no idea what he's being coached to do, whether or not he saw those other options with the limited time he had due to the OL protection issues, etc.

I've watched all the rookies so far and Lawrence is basically taking 30 ft Steph Curry shots just airing it out.
Can you imagine how mentally freeing that must be?

Outcomes? Who cares about outcomes man - just sling it!

Not one person has questioned the Patriots offensive success during this timeframe. They've questioned how much Josh McDaniels has had do with it because every offense led by Tom Brady dominantes and often leads the league. But, hey, I still appreciate the information. I've been critical of Josh in the red zone, so that red zone pct. at #1 is something I didn't know, and something I'll think about going forward with my criticism. I've never thought Josh is an idiot or bad at his job; I just think anyone who thinks the Patriots are getting some kind of extra edge by having him as OC, or that for whatever reason Josh could take a sub-par group of talent and coach them up to be consistently great, is just out of touch with reality. But that also applies to basically every OC in the league.

I'm not in love or married to Josh at all. I think you're way off about Josh vs the field or other OC though. He's not turning water into wine but if you look around the league he's better than most imo.

He's also able to relate and help players develop. People can make fun of the former Pats QB's all they want but it's not a coincidence they're all still on teams and getting paid. They might not be world beaters but nobody is giving them millions for free and one can argue Josh played a significant role in their early development. Him and Brady worked very well together. That stuff matters esp when drafting a young QB. We've seen what bad OC can do to these guys coming out - looking at Darnold, Tannehill ...

Again I wouldn't cry if Josh left but best believe there are several steps down from him. The "genius" in TB couldn't make it work and wasn't "innovative" until Brady started holding his hand and walking him through meetings and practices and he had HOF talent at multiple positions to work with.

This is ridiculous.

Jones has thrown 2 NFL passes beyond 20 yards. You told that the Pats are bringing Jones along slowly and designing plays for the future. All of a sudden people are shocked at his arm strength? Based on what?

The Patriots run game has carried Jones 2 weeks in a row.
Game 1: The Patriots run game basically cost us the game
Game 2: I would go with the defense, and their 4 interceptions, carrrying the team.

Actually currently
Defense 2 pts or 5 yards

Off Rushing
14th attempts
12th yards
16th yards/att

So the rushing game has been at best average, while the defense has been elite.

The Patriots were ALREADY the highest scoring offense before mcD came back, when O'Brien was racking up huge points and Brady won a MVP. And since Brady left, actually really since AB was cut, the Patriots offense has been one of the worst in the league from Oct 2019 to now, that's 2 years of ineptitude resembling the Denver'10 and StLouis'11 offenses now.

You can b*tch about it if the offense is still anemic in 2022 and most people will agree with you. Right now, it's just annoying

Nah I'm going to keep calling out the offense until it actually is good. Luckily Mac is the real deal so maybe the oc can ride another great QB's coat tails for another decade. I'm not concerned at all about all the short throws, the O Line is just bad, short throws are the right read. But the red zone woes are classic skippy issues.

I have no problem with people criticizing Belichick oracDaniels, I have a big problem with people calling them idiots, garbage and cherry picking stats and saying they suck and we’re only successful because of Brady. DKF does this dozens of times every day, and it’s bullish.t. He spams this forum endlessly and he needs to be shut down.

Highest scoring offense, best red zone TD %, and fewest turnovers, the Patriots won 3 Lombardi’s with MacDaniels but he shouldn’t get any credit for it. I’m fine with some criticism but this over the top bullish.t about how he sucks is disgraceful. DKF is a moron with an agenda, and its also disgraceful that he’s allowed to spam this forum with his delusional garbage day after day after day.

Wrong again, the Patriots were 3rd offensively in 2011, and they scored an anemic 17 points in the Super Bowl, despite having the GOAT QB. Keep making sh.t up.

1. Too early, but looking good.

2. Strawmen galore...negatives were middling athleticism (yup, considering guys like Fields and Lance) and not a plus arm (which one hopes would improve). He hit plenty of big plays, is and was considered extremely accurate down the field (were you looking at the 2019 profile?), and has an average release time.

And?

The rest of your apparent complaint is some weird interpretation of the things being said here.

I think you misunderstood his post.

They averaged 32 points a game in O'Brien's last season and were 2nd in total yards. Yes they scored 17 points in the Superbowl when mcD re-joined the team during the playoffs and the offense took a noticeable change for the worst in the last game. O'Brien had already taken the Penn State job heading into the SB that season. Thanks for reminding me of yet another missed chance because of skippy mcD, go and look at the playcalling on that 2nd Giants Superbowl loss, it smells very familiar.

Byron Leftwich looks like a genius, hottest HC candidate right now. Bucs offense is on fire and breaking scoring records. Meanwhile the Pats offense looks like the crappy Denver'10 offense.

Dude!?!?

BTW, of topic, the stupidest thing I heard on the radio this week was Adam Jones giving Mac Jones crap for making a ridiculously bad throw down the field in the end zone in double coverage when the Jets' defender jumped off sides. Adam Jones never gave Mac Jones credit that maybe he saw the flag and offsides and knew he had a free play and decided to air it out because if it was intercepted the play would have gotten called back. He sent a good three or four minutes trashing Mac about it without ever even thinking that it probably a heads up play by Mac Jones. All he did is go on how the ball was almost intercepted.

Why on earth are you listening to anything that imbecile has to say? I don't get it. Entertainment? I don't know how that's entertaining. He's basically a white Rob Parker. His whole schtick is ruffling feathers.
