van Noy
J. Jones
Thuney
?
Or do we collect 3 3rd round comp. picks in 2021 instead?
3rd or 4th. If both sign for more than 10 AAV very possible.Highly unlikely KVN brings a 3rd rd comp pick. Doubtful Jones does either.

Much as I hate to say it, because I like what Thuney has brought as a player, I would trade him and a late round Pick to Washington for Williams. But only on the condition that Williams agrees to a new deal, which could be a problem. Put Wynne inside and they have the best line in football.
I think the real question with Williams is if he would play out those last two years of his deal or want something new upon a trade. If you trade Thuney you can kinda scrape together enough money to make it work and still go into the season with the usual 7-9m.
Yep
Thuney is gone after this season because he’ll get over 50 million in free agency, and moving Wynn to his natural position would give them the best OL they have had in years and years. Williams is an All Pro quality LT, and they are rare. Pay for it and save most by not paying the guard who would be replaced by a 1st round pick anyways. These deals don’t usually end up happening, but it makes sense for both teams, and there’s no direct rivalry to influence it.
That’s the issue with the 2020 cap space (40m), though. You’d have to think that Brady alone will take up around 25m.The Pats have about 40 million in cap space in 2020 ( Brady extension not included) and 140 million (??) in 2021 so the Pats are in a good place regarding future cap space..

That leaves about 15m to try and re-sign any combo of the following (36 in total, but these are just the highlights) :
—Josh Gordon
—KVN
—Devin McCourty
—Jonathan Jones
—Demarius Thomas
—Joe Thuney
—Elandon Roberts
—Philip Dorsett
—Matthew Slater
—Nate Ebner
—Jamie Collins
—Ben Watson
—Brian Hoyer
—Adam Butler
—Ted Karras
This is what I was referring to when I mixed it up with some posters who claimed that we’d have so much cap room, next year. It just isn’t happening like some here had claimed. There were too few players under contract when many here were touting the (then) 60-65m dollar number, which is now about 40m.

Any way you look at it, they aren’t going to have “tons of cap space,” and guys like DMac, Van Noy, Gordon, Thuney, etc will be missed. I see rookie pacts replacing some of those guys, but there are also some that will leave a big hole. They’ll have to hit on some key picks both this year and next.Yes, the "tons of cap space" assertions without looking at the unsigned vets is incomplete and misleading.
On the other hand, looking at that list, most of those guys have replacements on rookie contracts on the roster already, or as rookies this year, so most of them can leave without opening up a huge hole in the roster.
