We have a lot of money already tied up in the other guard so I'd be surprised if we re up Thuney for big dollars. I really think that KVN gets resigned to a good deal. He's been so good for us. We need him going forward.

Much as I hate to say it, because I like what Thuney has brought as a player, I would trade him and a late round Pick to Washington for Williams. But only on the condition that Williams agrees to a new deal, which could be a problem. Put Wynne inside and they have the best line in football.

This year it would have had to be more than 11.2M APY. Which most probably will jump into the 12.5-13M neighbourhood next offseason.

Jones would have to have a Pro Bowl type of season to get an offer like that as a slot corner.

I think the real question with Williams is if he would play out those last two years of his deal or want something new upon a trade. If you trade Thuney you can kinda scrape together enough money to make it work and still go into the season with the usual 7-9m.

Thuney is gone after this season because he’ll get over 50 million in free agency, and moving Wynn to his natural position would give them the best OL they have had in years and years. Williams is an All Pro quality LT, and they are rare. Pay for it and save most by not paying the guard who would be replaced by a 1st round pick anyways. These deals don’t usually end up happening, but it makes sense for both teams, and there’s no direct rivalry to influence it.

I just don't see Williams going anywhere but the Texans if push comes to shove. They have a ****ton of space and an even bigger need there. They would outbid most other teams easily.

I think Devon McCourty is one of the best and smartest players to have played safety.. but he is getting a tad long in the tooth (32 on 8/13) and wonder if the 60 million + he has earned is enough, can see him in some capacity remaining with the Patriots..

Harmon is 28 and resigning him makes a lot of sense, if the price is not driven too high..

Kyle Van Noy is also 28, and as a fan really like his gamesmanship and attitude on the field, like his off the field presence as well.. great find by BB hope they can figure out how to keep him.

Joe Thuney, 26, is another guy I really like, edgy attitude and leaves it on the field.. figuring out how to keep him will be a challenge, but as a fan like how our O line has developed..... imo he is worth more than a comp pick, but the reality of the salary cap looms large.

The Pats have about 40 million in cap space in 2020 ( Brady extension not included) and 140 million (??) in 2021 so the Pats are in a good place regarding future cap space..

That’s the issue with the 2020 cap space (40m), though. You’d have to think that Brady alone will take up around 25m.

Sadly, something tells me Ebner doesn’t last the week. The Pats are now just too loaded with upside talented Safeties who can play STs. This may be one of those cuts where BB respects the player and appreciates what he’s done so much that he gives him ample time to catch on with another team.

Yes, the "tons of cap space" assertions without looking at the unsigned vets is incomplete and misleading.

On the other hand, looking at that list, most of those guys have replacements on rookie contracts on the roster already, or as rookies this year, so most of them can leave without opening up a huge hole in the roster.

Any way you look at it, they aren’t going to have “tons of cap space,” and guys like DMac, Van Noy, Gordon, Thuney, etc will be missed. I see rookie pacts replacing some of those guys, but there are also some that will leave a big hole. They’ll have to hit on some key picks both this year and next.
