ESPN's Quarterback Ratings are a joke

More proof that ESPN's QBR is teh suck

Here are the QBs who had higher QBRs than Brady:

1. Alex Smith, KC
2. Carson Palmer, ARI
3. Drew Brees, NO
4. Eli Manning, NYG
5. Peyton Manning, DEN
6. Derek Carr, OAK
7. Jameis Winston, TB
8. Philip Rivers, SD
9. Jay Cutler, CHI
10. Geno Smith, JEST
11. Aaron Rodgers, GB
12. Joe Flacco, BAL
13. Matt Ryan, ATL
14. Tom Brady, NE

I watched Matt Ryan's performance on Sunday and couldn't believe how terrible he is. He has regressed so far from a few years ago. Geno Smith? lol. Only ESPN.

Everybody knows that, even ESPN.

I read a theory that ESPN debuted QBR to make Tebow look good.

even geno smith had a higher rating than tb12.
qbr makes no sense at all.

im more of a passer rating guy anyway. 90 or higher is pretty good.

You know, you would think that when their rating system is telling them that Drew Bree's performance with 500+ yds and 7 TDs is only the 8th best of the week, only two spots better than Geno Smith...you'd think that they would just be /so/ ****ing embarrassed that they'd just shut up about it and pretend the whole thing never happened.

I'm getting tired of hearing about the ineptitude of BSPN. I already know about that.

No one uses it but ESPN

For good reason. Any analysis on the planet is incomplete without submitting it to the common sense test.

...but yes, this is BSPN we're talking about. Common sense is probably banned from the parking lot, let alone the facility itself.

When it happened once, I shrugged it off as a fluke.

When it happens week after week, it needs to be called out for at least being useless, and possibly being fraudulent.

This the same allegedly superior statistical analysis that declared that Brandon Weeden had a better game than Tom Brady is New England's 30-6 victory at Dallas.

It's not just that the numbers are meaningless; the formula is secret. Unlike the NFL's passer rating, we don't know what stats are used. On top of that, much is purely subjective; for example someone in Bristol decides how much credit for a pass goes to the receiver, and how much (if any?) goes to the quarterback.

Byrne: ESPN's QBR sells Tom Brady short

ESPN's QBR stat says Brandon Weeden outplayed Tom Brady; Weeden still benched for Matt Cassel

Given what we have seen in the witch hunt over footballs losing pressure when the temperature cools and the twisting of public opinion based on how the story was told by the primary sports media outlet, is it out of the realm of possibility that these numbers and rankings could be similarly massaged in order to advance an agenda?
