Eli Manning: An end of an era....

But do you doubt he will waltz in underservingly like Namath?

No, I think 2 SBs, plus the Manning name, plus the job location will get him in.

And I think it's an interesting debate as to whether or not the 2 SB wins should be enough to bring up an otherwise mediocre career to HOF level.

Mike (minus the mad dog) went after Reese, and is now tearing McAdoo a new one. It's funny stuff, too.

lol. there are no such thing as fluke wins. both his titles went THROUGH us.

That giants d line had a lot to do with the first one. Most have said to beat the goat you need inside pressure but brady has done a lovely job of finally working on getting out of the pocket with his feet. We saw some of that against the dolphins.

It is interesting.
I look at it this way.
If we were to draft the qb of the future and you told me I could pick:

1) 2 SB wins but mediocrity otherwise or
2) hall of fame career but no SBs

I would take 1 in a heartbeat. But boiling down a career to 2 successes seems wrong.

If I am the giants I rather keep him then. I think he can still play. He has a crappy offensive line.
Crappy o-line. No running game. Decimated receiver corp. Last year they made the playoffs behind a good D.

Eli is not the Qb he was but hes a helluva lot better than Geno Smith.

Plunkett is a good talking point for it

my respect for Eli jsut grew a bit

my respect for the giants just took a significant hit...what losers

I mean let's be clear...

Giants the past 2 years have shown themselves as a no class organization, a shameful one really.

First signed K Josh Brown to a new contract despite knowing what a monster and abuser he is.

Then breaking the rules (or CHEATING where I come from) with the Walkie-Talkie incident.

Now Baby Manning.

But people hate the Pats because they win. I am infuriated just thinking about this.

It's the brief greatness versus long-term consistency argument, which we see in all 4 major U.S. sports, played out in almost its purest form.

Koufax or Blyleven
Sayers or Martin
etc...

Like you, I'll take the greatness, even though it seems a bit off.

As I said I knew you wouldn’t answer.

I don't know why that's so difficult to believe. It's a pretty common career.

Here I am at a gathering with some colleagues and our clients:

I can't Eli but it wouldn't shock me if the giants dealt him in the offseason for a draft pick. They could get a second rounder from someone. Idk how it would affect their cap situation.
The tabloids down here have been speculating about that for a few weeks now, but second round might be rich since whoever gets him will have a cap hit.

Eli has no offense around him and is coming to the end of his run, but he could still be very useful to several teams, including Jacksonville with Tom Coughlin, where he could either replace or mentor Bortles. On that read, the Giants are sitting him because their season is over and they don't want to get him hurt before they can get something in return for him.

I doubt that the Giants next multi-year QB is on the roster today.

He's been a franchise quarterback quarterback in the league that quarterbacked 2 world championships. I guess a fan of Brady's Patriots might laugh at his demise but most of the league would take that deal. We're a spoiled bunch here

I and most gave credit to the Giants for their wins in both SB's. Great defensive efforts.

But the Manning family has always rubbed me the wrong way. But go ahead and give Eli a hug if you wish. I won't fault you for it. See if you can get an "authentic" game day jersey out of the deal.
