Elephant in the Room -- Tom Brady's Mental block in big games

There is no need for an X and O breakdown when your offense scores significantly less points in playoff games.

There is no need for an X and O breakdown when the look in Bradys eye and his demeanor is so obviously different in playoff games.

Where was this demeanor in the Denver game last year or the Houston game this year? It's pointless to respond because I know you don't have the football knowledge to break down why we lost or even attempt to do so. Rather you use some subjective interpretation of Brady's body language and attribute this as choking.

Lmao-Now both Brady and Welker suck. Belichick is next no doubt.

Actually the Draft is coming up so Belichick is definitely next in line for the sucks thread.

I don't understand how this team wins 5 games a year.

Does Kraft is cheap count?

Brady left a lot plays out there last game. He was tight and the whole team was tight; it is as if they try to be so precise on both sides of the ball that if things aren't perfect thy can't execute. That brady cluster f at the end of the half was just keystone cops stuff. Brady used to be infallible to me, as he is with most of the fanboys on this board. But that changed that night in Denver when he forced a throw in the red zone to troy brown and the pats paid for it with their post season lives that year. Facts are facts, for someone who many on this forum hold as the goat, he's had more bad/average than good/great in the playoffs since the last sb win...that's not debatable. Maybe the Pats develop into a top three defense that holds opponen to 17 pts a game or mAybe ridley/vereen and the rushing attack average 160 yards a game win games by themselves; I hope that's the case because we can't count solely on Brady anymore...also if the pats don't have these ridiculous turnover ratios in their favor the last few seasons theyd be a 10-6 team...heck maybe they need to go on the road in the playoffs to get some toughness back...

Well in last year's SB Brady set a record for consecutive passes completed, then he re injured his shoulder and his accuracy fell off, in spite of that he had the team in position to put the game away, then either the pass was off or Welker dropped it your choice.

And this is somehow a choke?

REALLY??????????

He played the 2007 SB with a High ankle sprain.

He spotted the D with a big lead in 2006, remember Mr Caldwell?

If one wants to comment on games it help to at least watch the games.

BTW he played poorly against the Ravens the last 2 years, Perhaps the Ravens have something to do with that.

There is no need for an X and O breakdown when the look in Bradys eye and his demeanor is so obviously different in playoff games.

First of all, let's look at the scoring offense in the divisional round of the last 2 years. While we're at it, we will also look at Brady's stats in those games:

2011--W vs Denver 45-10 (Brady throws for 6 TD's...and 363 yards)

2012--W vs Houston 41-28 (Brady throws for 3 TD's...and 344 yards)

So in the past 2 years in the divisional round, the offense has put up 45 and 41. In those games Brady has thrown for 9 TD's/1 INT, and has about a 350+ yd average.

That brings us to his "different looks, demeanors, attitude" etc:

2011 and 2012 split 1-1 with BAL, who is one of the tougher defensive outs in the AFC Playoffs every year, and a game vs the NYG where he sets an NFL record for 17 consecutive completions in a Super Bowl where they'd have won except for a combination of a Welker drop and another defensive collapse (mixed in with lucky Eli-throw part 2) ?

THAT'S your evidence that he has a different look in his eye + a different demeanor?

Edit: sorry, I see that patsfan13 has already addressed this issue. We must've posted at the same time.

He insulted me. I'm not a blind homer so I guess that's a sin. I wasn't aware he owns the message boards and is allowed to insult people. Be pissed off.

True, but do you have stats to support that Brady is very different now, and a loser?
Its what your calming. I mean you just cant say that without proof , right
? I see your point of view, lol, not like I have a choice.

I have a point….

Why is it that everyone that is posting that Brady is losing it has below 1000 post ?

hmm bandwagon fans ?

The famous 'look in his eye' analysis.
Tell me what does the look in my eye after reading your ridiculous opinion mean?

It's both sad and comical how blatant a double standard there is on this board when it comes to the play of Tom Brady.

When Peyton Manning loses in the playoffs, he choked. When Peyton Manning throws interceptions in the playoffs, it's because he's not clutch enough for the big games. When Peyton Manning puts up bad stats or QB ratings in the playoffs (even when the result is a W), it's all evidence of how he's incapable of post season play. When Colts fans used to chalk it up to drops, receivers running the wrong route, etc., it was always dismissed as excuses and whining.

When Tom Brady loses in the playoffs, it's everyone's fault but his. When Tom Brady throws interceptions in the playoffs, people say things like 'well the interceptions don't really count because xyz'. When Tom Brady puts up bad stats or QB ratings in the playoffs, stats don't tell the story. When anyone points to any of these things, people blame it on drops, receivers running the wrong route, etc. and it's everyone's fault but Brady's.

For instance:

Peyton Manning v. Ravens: 28-43, 290 yards, 3 TD, 2 INT, 88.3 rating. Put his team in a position where they had something like a 98% chance of winning with 30 seconds left, only to be shocked by the 'Flacco Fling' and a safety who appeared to have had a stroke on the interception attempt.

Yet there was a 'hatorade' thread in which everyone relished in another one and done choke for Manning.

Tom Brady v. Ravens: 29-54, 320 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT, 62.3 rating. Brady's picks included an endzone interception on a drive that would otherwise have resulted in at least 3 points. He was unable to lead a drive resulting in the score a single point in the second half of the game.

Yet this is not seen as a "choke", in fact many fans here, if not most, defend Brady's play as just fine, or even good, shifting blame away from him, saying he can't do it all himself, and blaming anyone else they can.

Don't get me wrong, this is a Pats forum, and so it's natural for there to be a certain distaste for Peyton Manning, but it's comical to see how blindly hypocritical so many fans here are. So eager and willing to label Manning a choker and dump the blame for essentially all of his playoff losses squarely on his shoulders, yet completely incapable of looking at the play of their own quarterback objectively enough to realize that since 2005, Brady hasn't been any better.

This latest playoff loss had more to do with not being able to replace Talib in the lineup than it was with Brady.

The team was simply not prepared to play once Talib left the game, they had no answers and just hoped it would work out,it didn't .......3 Ravens TDs later in the 3rd quarter told the story.

Belichick who was once a gambler in the past didn't go on 4th down in Ravens territory on several drives instead they punted, and that concervatism might have also played a part in the loss.

The secondary continues to be the reason why this team has not been able to end the season with a win....It's not on Brady specifically.

The team needs a stud safety and keep Talib and add more veteran depth or the team may never win another SB in the Brady era.

He insulted me. I'm not a blind homer so I guess that's a sin. I wasn't aware he owns the message boards and is allowed to insult people. Be pissed off.

Not being a blind homer is no sin, son. I certainly don't own the message board here and no one casts a more critical eye on this team than yours truly. But it will help your cause immensely if you really think things through before posting. Your wild conjecture about Tom Brady and his playoff performance has no basis in reality and suggests a naively painful lack of knowledge.

Ian and the mods should consider developing a sub-forum.

They could call it something catchy like "spoiled milk" or something, where all of the spoiled fans who come up with this crazy stuff can collaberate together and talk about how their team sucks collectively as a unit, and individually with each separate player.

Certain thread topics would be:

"When should we look for a new head coach?"

"Brady has lost it...I can tell by the way he hunches his shoulders"

"We need a new kicker to win more games"

"All butterfingers Welker does is drop the ball"

"This offense sucks in every big game"

"Trade Brady"

ETC, ETC, ETC......

Whats sad and comical is your post, and that you spent so much time on it. It has so many problems with reality. Manning did choke and had 1 SB win. If the Saints beat the Bears he would have probably lost that SB. Brady did not and has 3. I cant even believe I spent the time to read this.

..and Im am a Patriots fan, but a Saints fan 1st, and know Payton Manning very well. We dont dislike him, he was born here. Mine is an objective view.

You lost me when you started to compare the NFL's "winningest" QB of all time in the playoffs vs the guy who holds the title of NFL's most games lost ever in the playoffs.

Brady---won 17 playoff games, more than any other QB in NFL history. He has also taken his team to at least the AFCCG or better in 7 of his 12 full seasons, for an almost 2/3rds rate of making it every single season.

On top of that he is 5-2 in those AFC championship games, and has 5 SB appearances in 12 yrs.

vs.

Manning---no one has lost more times in the NFL playoffs at 12 losses. On top of that Mr.Manning has gone "one and done" in EIGHT of 12 appearances all time.

He also has never won a playoff game in temperatures below 60 degrees.

Other than that, I guess you have a point.

It truly scares me how little some people who post here know about NFL football and the Patriots. It's like righteous ignorance run amok.

and neither do I, Joe Kerr, profess to own this message board...I do, however, OWN and OPERATE a string of Holiday Inns that I rotate stays at...so...watch out...

It's like righteous ignorance run amok.

let me be the first to coin the term..."righteous amokorance"...

Well said Tunescribe, very well said.

Playoff record
Peyton Manning 9-11
Tom Brady 17-7

SB wins
Peyton Manning 1
Tom Brady 3

Seasons with:
1 playoff win Manning 4
A SB berth Brady 5

If you can seriously think the difference between these 2 QBs is a 'double standard' you should give up watching, and particularly posting on message boards, esp this one, about football.

When Tom Brady loses in the playoffs, it's everyone's fault but his. You are in the middle of a thread with Pats fans calling Brady a choker.
Please point to any example of any of the things you are saying here.

What does enjoying a rival losing have to do with your point?
And who threw the game clinching Int?

Tom Brady v. Ravens: 29-54, 320 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT, 62.3 rating. Brady's picks included an endzone interception on a drive that would otherwise have resulted in at least 3 points. He was unable to lead a drive resulting in the score a single point in the second half of the game.

Because it is totally ignorant to describe this as Brady choking unless you bury your head in a stat sheet and ignore what happens on the field.

Highest winning % in NFL history and the most playoff wins ever,
vs. the most playoff losses, and most one and dones ever.
You be the judge.
