They are not deities - many of our heroes OWNED human beings (raped them, sold their kids away, etc) and treated them rather horrifically, yes?
The 2nd Amendment was fashioned as it was so that the South could maintain the slave-hunting militias. The fight between Madison and those who were anti-slavery was quite public and well-documented. Madison also wanted the states to maintain militias to prevent the federal government from having power - so little armies instead of a big centralized one.

And until Scalia, the 2nd Amendment was interpreted VERY differently than this present-day dogma. And YES, our gun laws are STUPID. Incredibly, unbelievably STUPID.

The 2A had ZERO to do with "slave-hunting militias". I'm guessing you never actually read Mason's Master Draft which is what the Bill of Rights was based upon.

Pretty much everyone wanted Militias and no one wanted a Central Army to keep the govt in Check.
As for your opinion on the gun laws. Says the guy who got his hackles up because someone provided facts.. *shrug*

Very true. It's still remarkably dumb. If I ever put a firearm, magazine or ammunition into a bag, that bag will never see the inside of an airport. Does it mean I need to be more mindful of which bag I'm using? Absolutely. But mindfulness is part of the game when owning a firearm...or, it should be.

No. Scalia's interpretation was as close to the Founding Fathers statements as it's gotten from SCOTUS.
What's dumb is that we have over 20,000 gun laws in this country and don't properly enforce them.

We've had a law on the books since 1968 that allows for a person to be adjudicated as "Mentally Defective" if they they have mental health issues that make them a potential threat to themselves or others. Mental Health Professionals refuse to use it because they're afraid of stygmatizing their patients. Instead of petitioning Congress to change the word from Defective to incapable, they've chosen not to use the law at all. Once adjudicated, you can prevent them from legally purchasing firearms and force them to turnover any that they have. This is different than a "Red Flag" law because it does the adjudication process first where as "Red Flags" assume you're guilty, take away your property and THEN decide if you're innocent.

Do you know how many of the Mass Shootings that aren't Gang related that could be prevented if the LEOs, Social Workers and Mental Health Professionals did their jobs? 60-85%. You'd also reduce the number of suicides significantly. Yet our country refuses to focus on that. And that is despite POLS being shown the data. I know because I've been pushing this for the last 10 years..

I don't think he'll be released or we would have already heard about it. When hernandez was arrested he was gone immediately..This is similar level to Duron Harmon trying to bring 60 grams of marijuana into Costa Rica or Patrick Chung getting indicted for cocaine. They put out a similar statement when Edelman was charged for sexual assault. It seems to be their way of saying we'll let the legal process play out.

Not true. He's been charged with State Crimes. Not sure about the Federal because there is no "Extended Magazine" Federal crime.

You right state crime as well as Federal, The FAA, homeland security is involved. Once your in the check point that is how is goes.

I'm not a gun owner and I'm not anti gun either.. however I'm just trying to understand.. between the 5 or 6 hour flight to Cali where he was heading when was he planning on using them..

The 2nd Amendment was written in the desire to prevent the US from having a professional (federal) army. The fight over the words I mentioned - country vs. state - and the hope for no federal army in general had to do with keeping states in control over a central authority, and in no small part, to do with the militias of the slave-holding states.


The fight over slavery was well underway when the Bills of Rights was ratified. The southern states resisting the Constitution was because they feared the end of slavery. The 2nd Amendment was in no small part to bridge that chasm and bring those states on board.

Yes you can. It has to be in a locked container, and you have to be traveling through. Supreme Court decided that a while ago.

Ok, thanks for the clarification.. I know I was listening on weei.. and they were saying that due to thier being pending charges typically the NFL places players on the NFI/suspension list. However as you said I guess it could all depend on the crime as you mentioned.

Since 2001. the US has spent many billions to prevent such occurences.
