Ed Reed released by Texans ... signs with Jets

re: Ed Reed released by Texans [Update: Picked Up By Jets]

A positive thought. If BB isn't going hard after Reed, it probably means he feels pretty good about Harmon being a starter for a few weeks. I'm happy with that.

Belichick should have just put in a claim instead of trying to get cute after the waiver period.

If you think for a minute, what exactly does that demonstrate to you?

Ed Reed and Jets on verge of agreement, per league sources.

Harmon starting every snap and Tavon the 3rd safety vs. Manning is what I'm nervous about. I hope Harmon is ready for that.

Jets play the Ravens next week.

re: Ed Reed released by Texans [Update: Picked Up By Jets]

Letting him slip through waivers was a gamble that didn't payoff, if the latest reports of him close to signing with the jets are true. If they did this to save a few measly 1.6 million dollars then I don't know what to think.

What makes you think they even wanted Reed?

Yeah that gamble of not claiming a player the patriots had no interest in signing really didnt pay off. waiiiiit a second.:bricks:

Ed reed is over the hill, he wasn't about to "shore up" our defense at the safety position, if anything hes a liability at this point.

Re: Ed Reed close to signing with the Jets

Confirmed that he's been signed on Jets' official twitter. But is there a reason as to why we need two Ed Reed threads?

Re: Ed Reed close to signing with the Jets

The Pros:

- We've already played our games against the Jets, so this won't impact us unless we see them in the postseason.

- Avoids a potential locker room problem (if the reports of his mutiny in Baltimore and issues in Houston are true).

The Cons:

- Tavon Wilson is still our #3 safety if Gregory is out.

- The Jets ARE a potential first round matchup for us, and Rex will know how to use Reed effectively.

Be interesting to see how this all plays out.

Re: Ed Reed released by Texans

Well that didn't take long, he's a jets now.

You're right. Fixed it (and amended the title).

Re: Ed Reed close to signing with the Jets

I would have loved him here, but the fact is that he makes more sense to the Jets than to us. I never saw him as a liability here on the field, because he'd never get the snaps that would cause him to be one, plus his locker room presence would be an asset. However my main concern with bringing him in would be the snaps he'd take away from Ebner, Wilson, and Harmon. Another factor is special teams. Ebner and Wilson are both core ST's players and one would have likely to be the guy cut with an Reed acquisition. I don't think Reed would have come in, if he had to play ST's.

The Jets are weaker at S than we are, even with the Gregory injury. He's a great need. Besides for the Jets its all about winning the back pages, and this acquisition will win them this week's media war.

I don't get it. You have no way of knowing if the Patriots had any interest in signing him so how can you say they did it "to save a few measly 2 million dollars?" What if BB just never wanted him?

It's an assumption I made. And adam schefter confirmed the pats were interested, though not at the same level as the jets. It's all moot now. One injury to mccorty and we have duron harmon and/or tavon wilson.

Re: Ed Reed released by Texans [Update: Picked Up By Jets]

Congrats for him on joining the Jets. Him allowing a TD in his first play for the Jets would be nice.

What do you think?

I wish him a disaster of a remaining career. But that's just me.
