Draft Rumors

Hall and Sweat best athletes on d in This draft would love them both.
Street though injured is tempting from the 5th on.
Ridiculous strength
Malik Jefferson very rangy would be hit or Miss in our scheme.
Avery love his game and he could be there in the late rounds.
If Landry is at 20 damn tempting.
At Safety Elliot Moore Bates are the guys who could be interesting from late second on.
On offense not in love with any receivers to pull a trigger unless we think we can get production out of Brown then I'd be ok in the late second or beyond.
I feel like unless you know the tackle is a stud you take offensive tackle late.

Totally agree. I want Evans and a TE. Eventual Gronk replacement. And, would save us 5m by cutting Allen.
Maybe trade for a vet T?

Eventual Gronk replacement? LOL!

The best "receiving TE" prospects in this draft class can only fantasize about one day becoming the receiver that Gronk has been from the get-go. And the blocking skills of those receiving TE prospects are either weak or non-existent.

"But, they can be taught to block." Really? The Pats worked with Jake Hollister all last season and he never really got it. O'Shaughnessy had been in the league three years, and it turned out that he was not better at blocking than Hollister was by the end of the season. Tim Wright never got it. Derby never got it. Ebron never got it.

But sure, let's draft one of these guys as a "Gronk replacement" (that will never actually exist), and then cut a guy who's maybe the best blocking TE in the league at this point in order to save a few bucks.

Maybe he don't throw the controlleri

I wouldn't say it be difficult
Mitchell has been injured
Patterson is getting a fresh start
Matthews is coming in fresh after injury and worst season of his young career.
Britt is a guy looking to prove himself at this place.

Agree on WR need. With Patterson and Matthews additions. I think we are stout there.

I think Mitchell is not playing any where near 16 games. Not even counting on him. Great if he helps. Bad knees.

I think Matthews is the combo of Cooks and Amendola. He can match Cooks or Amendola in catches. Will exceed both in the Red Zone at 6'3", but will be lower in yards per catch than Cooks. His success will be how will he compare with Amendola in clutch time. With a pre-Wentz Eagles Teams , he averaged 75 receptions and 7 TD's per year.

Patterson is BB's shiny new toy. He is a lab project for Bill. He's even told Patterson as much. He's bigger than Cooks with more speed and the plus is he does ST. He's not going to do Lafell numbers in his best year at 74 because he won't get the targets. but if he gets Hogan type catches in the high thirties, it beats putting Slater out there at WR.

If Britt does not have a superb Camp, he is odd man out.

Remember, we use Gronk in the slot and out wide more and more so the WR corps do not get as many targets.

If we Draft a Goedert or Hurst for TE they will have the same type of roll as Gronk.

I’m hoping Allen goes to Jetes.

I suspect that the propaganda war succeeds and the Jetes take Jackson in order to try to pull a fast one on the Pats. Hey, it worked with Vernon Gholston!

Anyway, it doesn't much matter who they take. They'll totally screw him up.

A few random draft thought
  • since there is no consensus #1 pick this year, the Pats should not overpay if they want to trade up to #1. Offer the browns a package at a discount to the trade chart and call their bluff
  • I don't see the Pats drafting a WR. They signed Matthews and traded for Patterson for a reason. Patterson is this year "drafted" WR. Would be difficult for a late round WR to make the roster.
  • I would expect the Pats to draft a TE early, say by pick 43.
  • this will turn out to be one of the most unpredictable drafts in recent memory, both for the Pats and the draft overall.
  • Edit - add one other, with a deep, veteran roster, I would not be surprised if BB traded one (or more) of the top four picks into next year when Pats have 35 UFAs

Any outsider "consensus" as to who might be the #1 overall pick means less than squat in the real world. I don't see the point in BB playing games with trading up to the #1, and I'll bet that he doesn't either.

I'll actually be somewhat surprised if BB drafts a TE out of this draft class.

If the team has a buttload of players becoming UFAs in 2019 (that Pats actually have 38), the time to get potential replacements on the roster for those who you don't think you can re-sign is the 2018 draft, NOT the 2019 draft that takes place six weeks after free agency.

The Pats could bring in a rookie WR if he has extensive experience/success returning punts.

The only TE I can possibly see them taking a flyer on would be Fumagalli.

Really? I like Gisecki but I like other players at other positions better. Of course, that's not exactly a flyer.

Yeah, realistically, there might be one or two guys they'd take a flyer on in the 6th/7th (Dalton Schultz? IDK). I'd guess they sign a couple UDFA TEs - maybe that kid from Weber State. If nothing else, he should be good at setting up the grill.

I've been Luke warm on Rudolph but I'm warming up to it.

Him in the second and Lauletta or Falk in the 4thish would make me feel ok.
Let the Rooks make each other better.

He could go anywhere from late round 1 to round 2. I don't see the Patriots evaluating the need that high. I like him too, but I don't think he'll be coming here.

Gesicki doesn't block.

Meanwhile, there are TE prospects very similar in size and athleticism to Gesicki who will likely be available late Day-3 and into the UDFA period.

Honestly, out of the "top" QB prospects in this class, I prefer Mayfield by a large margin. Out of the 2nd-tier, I prefer White.

Maybe we trade up from 62 to get Rudolph. Has some size but my concern is him throwing in tight spaces. Gonna be 23 in July.

White is suppose to have accuracy issues and no mobility.
It be a project maybe even in the 6th.
I'd prefer Lauletta in the 3rd or 4th to White the mechanics and moxie is there get him stronger to improve that arm strength.

I saw Lauletta play. I wasn't overly impressed. I like Falk and think he's underrated. Then again I don't trust my QB knowledge.

Donald? Check out P.J. Hall. This kid is extraordinary.6-0 1/2, 308, ran 40 in 4.83/4.71 seconds (some scouts at 4.6), had 38 Verticle, 9"-"8 BJump, 36 lifts
  • 284 tackles
  • 86.5 tackles for loss
  • 42 sacks
  • 9 forced fumbles
  • 4 interceptions (he’s a down lineman!)
  • 14 blocked kicks (!) (!!) (!!!)
Has a 700-pound squat to his name.
He's my pick @#95

College Highlights: PJ Hall, DT, Sam Houston State

I have him listed in my wish list on the 'pick 8' thread on the draft board

So, when a Gronk retires we’ll never play/draft a TE because they’re not as good as Gronk?? LOL
