Desperate times in KC...

Honest question for everyone, does anyone think Romeo can actually come up with game plans to help fix this atrocious secondary we have ? I'd be thrilled to have him back. Patricia seems too vanilla as far as his defensive schemes.

The secondary's dearth of talent, IMO, is something that can't really be gameplanned around, for the most part. At least anymore than it already is planned around. A stronger pass rush would make it less problematic, but that would require playing a lot of man-to-man coverage, and Arrington and McCourty are both a lot more effective playing zone.

So no, I don't think that Romeo would be a magic bullet, by any stretch. I'd take him back here, sure -- he's a very good DC -- but the defense won't become upper-tier until we significantly upgrade the talent in the secondary. At present, there's one guy back there who should be starting (McCourty) and then a few others who are either physically overmatched or inexperienced.

I'm not sure it's the time to go down the trodden path with Crennel as the Patriots DC. I'd be more inclined to bring in an up and coming defensive star from College ranks or scout the NFL for a young coordinator achieving excellent results.

At this point if the secondary doesn't improve by seasons end I'd be more than willing to give him a try. We got some young talent in McCourty,Dennard and Wilson so lets see how they do first.

Id so be willing to bring Law or Harrison in as a secondary coach as well. It seems they were able to teach anyone who stepped on that practice field.

cassel has been the 25th, 8th, 24th, currently last, rated QB since he joined Cleveland. In that same time Sanchez has been 30, 23, 24, 28th.

So Cassel i would have has the potential to be a decent QB in the league(you don't get to be the 8th highest rated qb for an entire season by accident). I think the turn style at OC and coach, as well as the lack of consistent weapons has hurt him.

Brady quinn is a joke.

We all want to say cassel is a system qb here in NE but really look at the stats, teh 2 rookies that came into the league the year cassel signed with KC Flacco and Ryan.

Career Ratings: Cassel:81.1 Flacco:85.7 Ryan:89.5

The year he was 8th was when Weiss was OC and ran essentially New England's system.

This may be fortuitous. Maybe we can grab Romeo back as our defensive coordinator to replace the guy that isn't doing the job now.

I would love Crennel back as DC. But, realistically, BillB won't fire Patricia.

Some people are very good coordinators and not very good head coaches.

Look at the DC of Texans, Wade Phillips. Or, **** LeBeau. I think Crennel is

in this same category.

RAC has announced that he is replacing Matt Cassel with Brady Quinn for the simple reason that something's gotta give and he and Pioli are on the hot seat and it's time to get the players attention... Quinn not working out cost him and Daboll their gig in Cleveland...so the logic is tortured. Change for change sake because nothing else is working in KC. He and possibly Pioli and almost certainly Quinn will be in the same boat as Matt in another 9 weeks...

Adam Caplan's post on Philadelphia Eagles | Latest updates on Sulia

You do what you always did, you get what you always got. Quinn is not good, but its obvious Cassel is not going to win any games.

Yeah, he's done such a bang up job with young rebuilding defenses chock full of talent since he left the veteran unit he coached here several years ago...

Up to this point I wasn't sure if you were talking about Bill or Romeo

Romeo praying for Brady Quinn to save his ass....coulda sworn I've seen this one before.

Romeo is not coming back here..he wouldve when he was fired in cleveland. BB wants to grow his own guys FWIW.

Outside of his 4 years here Crennel has not been successful by any means.

That's not working out on D I'm afraid.

Love RAC. Just wish that guy could find some success as a HC. Romeo is such a good man. Would love to have him back here.

Fans here don't get that. Ditto with Charlie, although at least he was able to get a grip on KC's offense for a season until he decided he couldn't tolerate Haley's interference.

Both Charlie and RAC were perfect fits here at a point in time. They left and Bill didn't stop them because a. he knew they wanted to strike out on their own, as anyone worth having should eventually and b. they were excellent conduits here but they weren't responsible for the system or scheme. Both in different ways were the kind of motivational leaders Bill isn't. Charlie was a demanding needler. Fortunately they had one of the rare youngsters at QB who responded to being challenged daily as well as a bunch of blue collar journeymen driven to succeed despite elite talent. RAC was the father figure emotional motivator and he resonated with an old school mentality veteran defensive corps intent on winning more before their time expired. Neither approach tends to resonate all that well almost a decade later let alone on young teams attempting to build or rebuild something essentially from scratch. Neither was the schematic genius fans have tended to portray them as as a result of the success this team had during their time here. Rather they worked for one. They were the same thing their present day counterparts are here, Belichick conduits.

Love Romeo and wish him the best but as to here, he's in the twilight of his career, not a young guy and we're better off developing a cadre of younger coaches so that when BB heady off to Annapolis we have contendahs.

No amount of DC coaching is going to (1) make BB abandon his stubborn no blitz philosophy (remember the screaming matches at the defensive bench when Romeo was here?) and (2) suddenly enable guys who can't play at a high NFL level suddenly play like that. Romeo had great defensive talent here, a fine mix of specialized vets combined with emerging talents.

That's not working out on D I'm afraid.

People who persist in saying that only do so because they refuse to grasp that it is the way he's always done it. He pretty much grew Charlie and RAC into coordinators in NY, with the Giants and JETS where RAC worked for BB moreso than BP who never saw his potential and let him walk to Cleveland and Charlie in the swamp where BP never saw great potential in a highschool coaching FO recruit turned OC to the point he routinely demeaned and eventually demoted him and took away his playcalling duties at one point. Neither one of these guys brought a system with them other than the one they learned to run during their time with Parcell's and Belichick in NY. Essentially the same base concepts system and schemes every generation of coordinator here has had to learn to run. And doesn't get to adapt beyond the scope of what Bill determines he wants it to do. They were as such essentially master installation technicians.

The great defensive plan that helped launch a dynasty...that was essentially Bill and Ernie's and Saban's brainchild installed by RAC. The lone TD Brady threw in that game was made possible by an adjustment to the route Bill made on the sidelines based on the coverage he was observing. The drive that allowed for a FG that won it was courtesy of a kid who had the ellusive it factor engineering a no huddle drive with no time outs and needing to cover roughly 60 yards in under a minute twenty.

Rumors were that Pioli was going to be fired last week.

Funny how Quinn was named the starter this week when Cassel is well enough to play and pulling down a boat load of cash.

I'm recalling that after Haley was fired last season, RAC won the hearts and minds of his team as they finished 2-1 (beating the unbeaten GB Packers in one of those games) with Romeo as the I.H.C.

I mean, it's not much to hang your hat on but...

If Romeo were to become available, and BB felt as though he added value to the team, then I'm sure BB would hire him.

I doubt age would have anything to do with it; Romeo is about the same age as Dante.
