one is primarily plays ST and the other is a return man and back-up DB.

Or if a few receivers are recovering from injuries and need to be inactive for a couple weeks. Or if several of those receivers hold the last few spots on the roster for developmental players that can be any position.

What YOU need to understand is that many who post here know more about the patriots than most of the media writing or blogging.

Many of us have been following the team for many years, some for over FIFTY years. And yes, we do know how the patriots operate. Many, many of us have been here long enough to very well understand the Belichick-Brady years, and how the team has operated for the last 20 years. For me, this is only my 40th season. I recall going downstairs at work and meeting the team reps on Draft Day.

In any given year, THREE WR's get almost all (probably 85% or more) of the WR receptions. We always have a backup (our #4) who often has a ST role (like returner). Sometimes we have 5, including a returner. And yes, Slater make it 5 or 6.

That leaves us with the discussion of other we have ONE too many, or TWO too many.

This is a tough one. They seem to really like GO and JM. JG and JE arent going anywhere. They really like PD. DT is a luxury not a necessity but it would be nice to have him. But at what expense?

I am in 100% agreement with MG's assessment but I'd like to add, in general the past 19 years, when has the roster on the Saturday before the opener a week later ever been the same? I expect more changes, more additions and subtractions going right up to the Wednesday practice...and beyond. It's just what BB does the first few weeks of the season. Honestly, I thought Thomas showed he's still got his hands and football savvy. Wonder where Brady figures into all this...

Thomas is not subject to strict waiver claims, he can decline another team's pick up. He will soon be safely back in the fold
