It's easy, and only takes a few moments.I think what everyone here is thinking is that if Newton is so dialed in and is going to light it up the way some folks are saying, then he should be crushing Mac in camp. Right now he's barely ahead of a rookie QB in his first ever training camp. The gap should be noticeableOh boy the amount of Cam hate is
Don't bother. Really don't bother. Folks won't believe Cam is going to be the QB this year no matter what. If you've been to camp - you see whats going on. Mac is having a good camp but Cam has always seemed just a little bit ahead..which is to be expected considering one player is a rookie and the other a veteran.
Some folks just can't accept that. They won't - ever.
You won't win this war here ...not today.
This. Pats have the O-line, running game and good enough receivers for Jones to start. Not to mention, the defense will be good enough.starting Newton is just wasting a year. The Guy just can't throw the ball accurately. Jones needs game experience from day 1, he's the future. Herbert and Burrrow were great last year and I have confidence the Pats coaching staff will put Jones in a position to also succeed. Cam is an anchor on this team.
Ok whew...don't get me confused with that. I don't think Cam is suddenly going to revert back to his best form. I just believe he can clean up his game with a proper offseason and upgraded weapons to be a a decent qb for us - this year.
I'm a Cam fan as much as I am a Mac fan. If Cam holds off a stud rookie for 1 year to earn one more big contract in free agency for himself that's an awesome story. If Mac beats out the resurging Cam - former NFL MVP to take helm of the Patriots...that's an awesome story. I'm here for both! Whichever happens!

Thats exactly what I expected... For cam to be at his best possible and Mac be at his heels. This is a dream scenario for me.. rookie QB pushing veteran qb to the max and eventually overtaking. It doesn't change the fact that Cam is coming in and performing above expectations. He is doing his part..period.I think what everyone here is thinking is that if Newton is so dialed in and is going to light it up the way some folks are saying, then he should be crushing Mac in camp. Exactly where my mind is at... Cam for 4 weeks from that point on if cam is struggling or his play is directly leading to losses.... Mac takes over and the rest is historyIMO:
Starting Newton is fine, as long as it's either because the team wants to give Jones a couple/few weeks on the sidelines to see how everything looks at ground level, or because Newton is clearly ahead of a no-yet-ready Jones, or because Belichick has a plan in place for weeks 1-4 (and particularly week 4) that requires Cam under center as the starter.
I respect that and I am rooting for his development.
Some folks just can't accept Cam is having a good camp as well and has been impressive. It's mind boggling. This goes for some media personalities as well. This is purely the reason why it's so damn confusing if you just follow notes/reports to see who is "winning". The bias is REAL. Cam will drop dimes and throw lazers and he'll get a note or 2...mac throws a pretty ball and we get a paragraph. It's real. Folks do not want Cam to do well and EARN his starting spot. That's what he's doing though and I don't know what else to do but just kick up the feet and enjoy the ride.

Not necessarily, Gunner is a scrapper, a wolverine, he’s been my binkie since the last preseason game of his rookie year. In that “do or die” game for bubble players Gunner played WR, PR, KR, CB and S… I knew right then this kid had a future in this league and BB would value his versatility. In your opinion Wilkerson may be a better choice in the slot then Gunner ?
Mac is Definitely the future, newtons Not going to be here next year, but i'd like MJ get a season of holding a clip board like Brady did if at all possible. Over the years ive seen to many Qbs unable to deal with immediately being thrown right into the NFL from college.I have nothing against Cam. I think hes a decent dude and has represented the NEP well.
Last year he could have been hurt. He could have been a long hauler. He didn't have an offseason because of surgery and was on the cram plan to learn the offense. He absolutely didn't have great talent around him and was not in a position to succeed.
I'm all for giving him the benefit of the doubt but one thing is absolutely clear to me. He is not the future. It's Mac and at the end of TC if it's a photo finish and playing Mac in Sept means he'll be a better QB in Nov and Dec and in 2022, then BB needs to play Mac Week 1.
If Cam outplays Mac in TC, BB should play Cam and i'm cool with that.
I hope Mac starts Week 1 but if he doesn't, oh well.
Agreed. The issue is McCourty and Hightower and Gilmore this is probably the last year with this trio. I'm not excited about a 6-11 season to give Mac a learning year this year, next year I'm all for it. The team won't contend throwing a rookie QB in there, it's never happened even going back to Marino or Big Ben.
.
I'm supremely confident BB will make the right choice but when it's Bill saying Mac is way, way, way ahead of where a normal rookie is at this point, it invites cautious optimism.
Cam is having a decent camp but Mac has been pretty competitive.
I respect that and I am rooting for his development.

Yea he didn't.But Bill didn’t say anything like that. Warren Sharp took a quote from Tom Curran, not Bill.
Curran: Belichick notes choosing starting QB will be ‘hard decision'
The biggest takeaway for Saturday’s Patriots practice was what head coach Bill Belichick said prior to the session. Our Tom E. Curran breaks down everything from Day 4 of camp.www.nbcsports.com
