Dallas Clark Sighting

Looks like Dallas Clark is heading to the TB Bucs

A signing today is possible per a Rotoworld report

Damn, I've known about this story for a few days now, but for some reason only today did I really start thinking about the opportunities, matchup nightmares, and depth that would be created by signing Dallas Clark.

Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

Why is this excellent news? Do you magically know that he wouldn't help the team?

:confused2:

It's pretty basic, really:

It's excellent news because I didn't want him on the team, and this removes that as an option.

I think we already have a good option of weapons for the kind of skillset that Clark would potentially bring us, and that's not even taking into acct his injuries and age.

I couldn't possibly imagine keeping 4 TE's, and I think Fells is a lock. If you'd consider him a potential replacement for Welker, then we're back to the same problem which is trying to keep too many WR's; same exact problem as the TE's.

And I realize that classifying him as a "WR" is a stretch, but I was simply trying to cover all the bases. We have several guys already who have the same exact set of skills, only they are younger and have potentially better upside. (Gonzalez notwithstanding)

Besides that, taking over Indy's castoffs is getting a bit old

This is what I have a problem with and I see it a lot. If TE is seen as an important position on the team, what is the problem with keeping 4 if they are good ones?

People get so wedded to these position numbers. We need x number of this position, blah, blah, blah.

The league is constantly changing and if you are building your offense around the TE spot I would rather have a 4th TE than a 5th or 6th receiver.

The fact that the Pats had Clark in and didn't sign him is good enough for me, but if there is a TE good enough to make Fells the #4 I say grab him and keep all 4.

Oh and if there is anything I care less about than a Deus personnel decision I can't think of it off the top of my head. I don't like Clark so it's an excellent news. Brilliant.

I feel pretty much the same way about all of your takes. The differences are that you inquired about mine, and that the Patriots frequently come around to my position. The amusing part about your inquiry is that you had nothing of substance behind it, which is typical of your posts, yet you followed it up with this reply bashing mine, when the reasons for not wanting Clark on any given team are obviously something that teams have looked at, given that he was unsigned until yesterday.

And, as for chastising people for supposedly being wed to numbers, I suggest you get over it. Last year, the team went with just two tight ends. This offseason, the team has brought in a bunch of wide receivers, paid above minimum for a rb who could become the replacement for BJGE, showed no sign of wanting to get rid of either backup QB, and brought in multiple fullbacks. It's a normal, and common sense, thought that the team wouldn't be in a hurry to double the number of tight ends on the roster in that sort of situation.

Douche

The only thing the Patriots could use your "positions" on is to read it and realize the exact opposite way is the smartest.

Not signing Clark simply means they didn't sign him..........not anything related to "coming around to your positions".

Saying otherwise just once again proves the extreme likeness you have to an intellectually challenged glute.

Well, it didn't take you long to remind me of why I've had you on ignore. Your takes are the most ignorant of anyone on the board, and this one is no different. They should go the opposite way? That must be why they went and got the receiver to threaten middle-deep, as I've been saying.

You're a genius.

Back to ignore with you.

I'm on ignore and.....you respond!!!

Just pick from the blind squirrel and nut/broken clock and twice a day/rooster and sun coming up shelf and that just quit while you're way behind......as always.

BTW, a certain Roman emperor didn't impart insight as a cover for a buffoon. Too bad he isn't around to sue.

Wow, this thread turned toxic in a hurry. Just think what might happen if it were about a guy the Patriots might actually need.

These geezers coming around to see if the Patriots are interested make little sense to me. Clearly the Patriots are trying to get younger and faster, and other than some guys at WR that have chemistry with Brady, there does not seem to be a place for the Dallas Clarks and Kellen Winslows of the NFL.

I think the Patriots are looking to get younger and faster overall, but have still been bringing in a good blend of veterans and young players. Brandon Lloyd and Jabar Gaffney are older players, for example.
