Cutdown day to 75 is the 27th: Who doesn't make it?

I would agree with you.

Interestingly enough, Rodak has Francis and Scott as being on the bubble, with Bequette being even further away than that, 'on the outside.'

I think in some instances you need to take future needs into the matter too, even though you are always trying to build the best 53 man roster for this year specifically, and I think one would have to assume that Bequette may be a future part of this team.

I agree. One reason Bequette is going unnoticed for what I think has been a very good start for a rookie 3rd rounder is he is playing the same role as Chandler Jones. Chandler is obviously a stud but it is not often you see so much from a rookie pass rusher so early on and that is causing Bequette to appear developmental when really he is just starting his career in the most common way. But he has not been bad and he offers versatility LE,RE and even some DT in sub packages. Cunningham is seeing a lot of snaps at DT so if he was to miss some time during the season we need a player like Bequette to fill that role.

Oh, that's right, Never.

And I also think Dennard makes it, insurance if they don't get a deal done with Arrington. I mean there is no way Bill is slapping the franchise tag on him at $10+ million next season.

Aside from that why what you said which is very valid, what performance reason would there be to cut Bequette. In his opportunities he has played well.

Yeah the first set of cuts shouldn't be too hard.

I thought White had made a return to health a week/10 days ago, I guess it didn't work out. Glad that we have Carpenter and Tarpinian to fill that role, as I see Koutivedes getting released during the next set of cuts.

Since Bill Belichick values special teams more than anyone on this message board, I'm not quite ready to stick a fork in Koutouvides.

Koutouvides...you'd think after being able to spell "Ihedigbo" just fine on the first couple of tries that I'd be able to learn Koutouvides too.

I could certainly see him staying, as it wouldn't be a shock, but I think he's on the bubble for the last spot or two if made.

If he stays, would you also see Tarpinian too then? Or I'm assuming just one or the other.

Possibly both due to Tarpinian's long term potential upside.

4 - DT (Wilfork, Love, Brace, Deaderick)
4 - DE (Jones, Cunningham, Ninkovich, Bequette)
6 - LB (Mayo, Spikes, Hightower, Carpenter, Koutouvides, Tarpinian)
4 - S (Chung, Ebner, Gregory, Wilson)
5 - CB (Arrington, McCourty, Dowling, Dennard, Allen/Cole/Moore)

Depending on Chung's injury possibly a fifth safety: Barrett/Ihedigbo

PUP - Pryor

Practice Squad Defense - 4 (Forston, Francis, Williams, ???????)

You're pretty high on Dennard. I'm curious to see how that one works out. I think that's one of the bigger 5-10 or so questions of camp.

I wonder if Warren's situation will be the same as last year? An addition after the first game, for guaranteed money purposes. Or maybe he'll just be on the shadow roster?

I think 23 may be too light for defense, Tip. I know you included the 'maybe additional safety' too which would make it a potential 24, but I don't see anything less than 24/25. We'll have to see. It's one of the things that makes this time of year so interesting.

I suspect the New England Patriots will need a developmental cornerback on the roster since Kyle Arrington will be an unrestricted free agent next season.

Gerard Warren to shadow roster with Pryor on PUP and Forston to the practice squad. That should cover all the bases for depth at the defensive tackle position.

Remember that Pryor is on PUP, so consider at least 24 players on the New England Patriots defense sometime later in the season.

BB values ST players and Ihedigbo is one who will probably stick.

Nice list. I probably favor 24 on defense, with Pryor possibly replacing one of them. Something like:

DT(5): Wilfork, Love, Brace, Deaderick, Harrison/Forston (possibly replaced by Pryor)
DE/OLB(4-5): Jones, Ninkovich, Bequette, Spikes; Scott/Francis vs. 6th CB
LB(5): Mayo, Hightower, Spikes, Carpenter, Tarpinian
S(4): Chung, Gregory, Wilson, Ebner
CB(5-6): McCourty, Dowling, Arrington, Dennard; 1-2 out of Moore/Cole/Allen depending on whether a 5th DE/OLB is carried

PUP: Pryor
PS: Francis and Forston if they don't make the squad

That would leave 26 spots on offense:

QB(3): Brady, Hoyer, Mallett
RB(4-5): Ridley, Vereen, Woodhead, Demps; Bolden vs. 4th TE (Shiancoe)
TE(3-4): Gronkowski, Hernandez, Fells; Shiancoe vs. 5th RB (Bolden)
WR(6): Welker, Lloyd, Gaffney, Branch, Edelman, Slater
OL(9): Solder, Vollmer, Mankins, Connolly, Cannon, McDonald, Wendell, Thomas, Waters/Koppen

PS: Bolden if he doesn't make the squad, a couple of OLs

Thought it was 4pm EST on the 27th?

I think Belichick cuts a WR early to give that player a fighting chance to get signed by another team quickly.....that player is Stallworth.

Bolden is likely to be the first RB cut.

Miami is desperate for WRs. Expect to see Donte there or sadly, on the Jets. Maybe after game one so he's not a year guarantee, but maybe they're that desperate to land a vet WR and will outbid the other.

Oh, that's right, Never.

The closest to that is Kevin O'Connell, and he at least got a second preseason. That said, given how highly the Pats supposedly thought of him in January, I truly wonder what exactly went wrong there. [If I had to guess, it had something to do with McDaniels' departure.]
