Curran: "In my estimation... [Gonzo would like to] be treated as if he's at the table in 2027." [previous title: "say goodbye to gonzo"]

There is no doubt in my mind a deal will be done soon. These type of deals are not just about money and guarantee's.
The language in between all of that needs to be negotiated. He will be with us for awhile
I think Felger had a point here. It's the guaranteed money received at signing, Kraft has a contract budget. Maybe all those years Bill was blamed for being cheap, he was living within Kraft's contract budget.

At this point, the deal would have already been done but it sounds like everyone is locked in, which means it won't get done.

If he doesn't sign a deal now, the Patriots will definitely have to trade him at some point, either in the coming days, in the middle of the season, or right after the season. He'll be worth a lot less at that point, however.

If he plays the season without a contract, he's just going to up the ante. He will then be impossible to sign because he'll have even greater demands and the Patriots will be in a corner with the salary cap.

Everyone is always locked in - right up until the point the deal is signed.

Cash spending for 2026
And they’re number 9 for each of the next two years. Chances are they extend Gonzalez, which will put them in this year’s top 10, and they certainly won’t fall from the top 10 if/when they extend Maye.

I would had to that that they were also 15th in 2024 and 9th last year.

I assume the years and AAV are pretty much set
prob the guarantee as well
the issues are the when does he get his money and how much at that time.
is the current deal changed to a bonus, and the new deal kicks in immediately?
how much of the bonus money is paid upfront?
what incremental dates are the balances paid out?

if you recall, for years, Brady took less, but got mostly upfront monies.
without understanding the details, it's foolish to label the parties "cheap" or "diva".

Pay him whatever he wants! …Any amount!…..Within reason….under $36M…in a way that doesn’t hurt the cap…..not too much guaranteed money though….and gotta get those injury clauses in there too…a few incentives wouldn’t hurt…

Whatever he wants!…

It's getting to the point where Gonzalez will resent the Patriots even if the deal eventually gets done.

Absolutely think a trade is in the cards.

So, Gonzo wants the most money up front and then he can do this all over again in a couple of years.

Does signing on the dotted line mean anything anymore?

Don’t think so.
All will be forgiven and forgotten if he gets a deal to his liking.

Never has to the owners, so can’t really expect anything different from the players.

It won't until they guarantee contracts.

Signing on the dotted line has never meant anything in the NFL.

Not when you can just inflate contract numbers and not really guarantee anything to the signer.

Season is two weeks out to the day. At what point do you think resentment will build if it hasn't already?

sick of players always wanting to be the highest paid at their position, which lasts only a year. He's not Witherspoon.
