Could this 'Charlie to the Pats' thing really happen? [Schefter: contacted by teams]

Re: Could this 'Charlie to the Pats' thing really happen?

PFT reports tonight that Weis has cleaned out his office already.

Just sayin'...

No link?

People are saying he might as well clean out his office?

There are unconfirmed reports his office is cleaner than it was last week?

A source in the office cleaning crew remarked how unusually clean his office was?

Whispers of boxes in his office?

I find our offense very disjointed. Don't know if it would work out, but i always like Weis play calling much better than it's been since he left.

Re: Could this 'Charlie to the Pats' thing really happen? [Schefter: contacted by tea

I would say why not, it's hard to argue the success Brady and Weis had before, and that was without Moss and Welker...

Re: Could this 'Charlie to the Pats' thing really happen? [Schefter: contacted by tea

It's not going to happen. I can't see Belichick upsetting the coaching the staff this late in the season. I think it would end up being a distraction as Weis wouldn't be familiar with most of their new personnel, staff, and schemes. It might be a possibility next season.

Boomer Esiason said on the NFL Today this afternoon "don't be surprised to see Charlie Weis back as the offensive coordinator of the New England Patriots."

And after Boomer said that, Marino (I think) asked 'for Monday night?' and Boomer said no, maybe not for Monday night.

I would be surprised.

If so, just what is Boomer gonna do to me then?

At least we wouldn't be so predictable.

It is good to see me and a moderator see eye to eye on this issue I got a big back

Weis makes so much sense for this team I never understood the ignorance of ppl not wanting him back?????? Even, whith my premature post 3-4 weeks ago..... saying Weis would be fired from ND and back w/ NE. I made a point then...... it was rejected.... but it could be a reality soon

It makes so much sense and it will not be a difficult adjustment for him to make. If Weis respects BB and TFB he will be back to a friendly franchise who would most definitely be open to his services.

Charlie is a respectable guy...... I think he is a follower and not head coach material. He needs a solid QB.... and a familiar one at that., which is present in New England with TFB.

Charlie needs a "happy home" again...... w/ all the $$$ coming his way from ND why not go back to New England and work w/ people who admire and respect you? Comfort is not an issue here..... come back Charlie Weis. TFB has many more weapons now. TFB/BB/Kraft's all would like you back. I want you back.....

come home Charlie.

It wouldn't surprise me, but for next year not this. It would surprise me for this year.

By the way, Al Groh got canned today from Virginia too. A bunch of BB associates would be available for next year. Weis, Romeo, Groh....Mangini. Though that last one won't be coming back!

Re: Could this 'Charlie to the Pats' thing really happen?

I would take him back as an OC in a heartbeat.

Care to elaborate?

Should I pull up the "Weis to New England?" threads from the past three Saturdays? It's pointless to make a new thread every week, especially considering the fact that Charlie is probably not going to come back here and get paid what he used to make for all of the hours that he's going to have to put in.

Re: Could this 'Charlie to the Pats' Thing Really Happen?

He is not going to come and even if he comes, he is of little use here.
He is NOT the the same hungry guy 6 years ago. He has 100 times more $s in bank accounts; plus personality wise it does not make sense any more. Who was the last ND head coach that transitioned to be a good assistant? No body.

He has been the chief executive of the ND football program. It's hard to come down from that to an assistant position scraping a living drawing up new offese plays.

Being in Chicago, I get to watch a lot of ND games. He looked extremely overweight. His physique screams laziness and lack of self-dispiline. How can anyone be so self-indulgent (in eating) to let them grow to 400 lbs? This is by no means to offend oversized guys; but come on, he is so heavily most of times it looks as if he could barely move. Not kidding.

I think he still looks plenty hungry.

There's no shame in coming back for Charlie.

Belichick came back to Parcells after being dumped by the Browns in the 90's.

Who said he'll get paid what he used to make? Who said he wouldn't take that even if he did?

For one, as has been mentioned, the Pats are probably not going to pay Charlie what he would want. He could probably go to a smaller college program than Notre Dame and make more as a head coach than he would as a coordinator. For another, it's been mentioned that he had a small dispute with Kraft over his pay before he left here. Color me shocked if he returns to the Pats. I know Boomer Esiason said he expected Weis back with the Pats, but I don't think Esiason has the inside track to the inner-workings of the team. On top of this, there has been no conclusive evidence that Charlie is talking with Kraft or BB again and is planning on even returning to the NFL, much less the Pats. It's all been speculation.

That's a really good point. I could see Weiss back with the Pats next season. I can't see him going back to ND, so he's going to need a job.
