Combine Talk: Defensive Backs

The DBs, in general are weak, particularly in top end talent. There seems like there may be some good mid-round talent. Guys who could end up being starters, but just not game changers (ala James Sanders).

Several sites have mentioned that Mayock reportedly compared Sean Smith to Mel Blount (6'3", 205# when he played for the Steelers in the '70s at both CB and S) at the combine. Does anyone have a reference to the actual quote? That would be an awfully nice comparison.

Sean Smith

I remember him saying that and Deion replied with "that's high praise" and Mayock clarified that he meant physically.

Did Sean Smith participate in the drills at the combine? What about the other runs like the shuttles and 3 cone?

If he did, how did he look?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that he participated in all the drills EXCEPT the shuttles and 3 cone.

By all accounts he was about as fluid as you can be at 6'3" 215
