Charles Pierce: Goodell and the art of stepping on hidden rakes.

I have said that the tide is turning in the media, and there is a good chance that could have an effect on some owners. It may not have an effect on the owners, but it is certain that the tide is turning in the media. I cite one fact and then speculate that something that is likely to affect some members of a particular group. You say that I am kidding myself, but there are a whole lot less assumptions in what I am proposing.

I'm inclined to agree with you, but have absolutely no way of proving that.
Unfortunately, the only body of water in which the tide matters for the time being is Berman Bay and I doubt he pays any attention to the self-appointed geniuses in the media.

I listened to Sirius NFL radio the on Sunday and listened to the hosts talk (Zig Percasy and Tim Brown) and said all of this doesn't matter and what really matter was that Brady said he didn't think he cheated rather than was more defiant. They argued that is all the proof you to know he cheated because an innocent man wouldn't have been so wishy-washy.

So no, the tide is not changing. We are just cherry picking the guys who are questioning the league. For every Florio there is a Mad Dog Russo, Mike Frascessa, etc. And don't forget that many of the people in the media trashing the NFL for how they railroaded the Pats still think Brady and the Pats are guilty. They just think there are villains on both sides.

I'm just going by feel here. And whereas my feeling before was that there was a united chorus against the Pats, I don’t sense that anymore. Just my two cents.

I do agree that Brady’s “I don’t think so” and a text using the word “deflator” will be 99% of the “case” against the Pats....unless Brady talks about that press conference and if/when the equipment guys ever talk.

From the OPs article:
More than a few people advised Brady to suck it up and take the penalty because you can’t fight City Hall, overlooking the fact that, in this particular case, City Hall is presided over by a guy who couldn’t pour juice out of his loafers if the instructions were written on the heel.

Oww! Fyi, it kinda hurts when coffee shoots out your nose.

I listen to Sirius NFL radio quite a bit and it still seems significantly anti-Patriots on that station. The guys backing the Patriots and Brady are the same guys who have been doing it all along like Pat Kirwin and Jim Miller.

I really don't see any difference in this than the half dozen other times when people were saying the tides are turning. I fully expect that the league will leak more damaging information again and we will be back doing this all over.

There seems that there is some confusion as to what Charles Pierce thinks. Here is a paragraph from another Grantland article where he states it a bit more clearly.

I would reiterate here that I believe there was some jiggery-pokery done to the footballs used in the first half of the AFC Championship mismatch, and that it beggars belief that the quarterback didn’t know anything about it. I also would reiterate here that the whole fiasco has been such a self-evident waste of time, and money, and media attention that it’s hard to believe Donald Trump doesn’t have a hand in it somewhere. This is something that should have been laughed off the airwaves 15 minutes after the story broke. It was gamesmanship, pure and simple, worthy of a $25,000 fine and a stern letter of reprimand.

Mr Pierce has railed against Goodell during this whole Deflategate process and props to him for doing that but he thinks Brady is guilty of the offense. Sometimes he is clear like above and other times not so clear as the article quoted in this thread. Brady says he didn't do it, Mr Pierce seems to think he did. He basically has been calling Brady a liar but it's no big deal.
