By the numbers: Patricia's offense downright offensive

god, never thought someone (fat Matt) would make me miss f'n Josh MIckeyD

I am NOT a believer is our current coaching system with no OC and Patricia doing double duty.

HOWEVER, HOWEVER, the play-calling and OL play have been as good as in past years, and not a primary issue. Most of us expected 1-3, with the system on offense taking at least this long to mesh.

The RB's have been fine. The receiver play is certainly good enough to win.
=======================
We can (and should) complain about the play of the #7 Lb (Tavai) or why is Wynn is a poor RT. But those aren't the issues that will keep us out of the playoffs. Even these two weaknesses are somewhat reduced with the acquisition of Cannon and Collins.
================================
The elephant in the room is QB play. If we have AVERAGE qb play for the rest of the year, we should be fighting for the playoffs at the end. The rest of the Offense is good enough for that. The Defense and Special Teams are certainly good enough to be in the playoffs.

Sadly, I don't expect average qb play for the rest of the year. We don't have QB's that are better than 7 QB's in the AFC. We have Zappe and a Jones coming back from injuries.
This ^

Mac is certainly an intriguing player, however, he is not near the top of the AFC and I absolutely buy into the idea that QB is the most important position in sports.

I've seen several AFC QB rankings lists and haven't seen Mac Jones in top 10 in any of them. So objectively, I am far from alone here...

So, in my mind, our Defense is absolutely good enough to get into playoffs with, our special teams are solid, but neither of those two are good enough to overcome our below average QB play and "average" WR/TE core. That really isn't a knock on Mac! but there are 16 teams in the AFC and he isn't in the top 8 YET (In my opinion)....So yes, we are "Below Average" in QB play BEFORE he got injured. I think if this were 5 years ago he would be higher on that list but there are some very talented QBs in the AFC nowadays.

Our best bet to get into the playoffs is to get the ground game going and hope our D can turn back into a turnover creating machine.

It's FOUR games people. Not NEARLY time to tear your hair out. 4 games and a LOT of injuries to key people (Mac, Myers, and Mills, just to name the M's that were out)

The offense HASN'T be good, and there are a lot of reasons for that, but to make blanket denunciations at this point is just ludicrous

I do agree that 4 games isn’t enough to come to any conclusions, let’s see what happens over the full year. I think the issue will be if we miss the playoffs,the offence underperforms, and Mac hasn’t shown improvement l cant see Bill moving on from Patricia and Judge. They are Bill’s guys and will be here until Bill leaves.

Do we want to switch offenses year after year? It's another consideration.

ESPECIALLY on a team that has thrived with consistency.

All due respect, you said the same thing before season started, "it's just TC can we wait until they've played a game."

It's perfectly fine to offer opinions after 4 games based on the trend we saw in TC continuing. Should we wait until Week 16 before drawing partial conclusions? After all, it's a football forum where opinions are voiced from the level of performance of the coaches to causes for Brady's marital issues (of which ppl have even less facts).

Agreed. At some point the losses pile up and the season is a lost cause. Not sure why we shouldn't draw conclusions after reading/watching the same issues since late July.

What happened to my post(s)? I had an alert it was quoted but I don't see that or my post.

Agreed.

However, I think that we have new information since July.
1) The IOL has 3 solid starters (with no backups)
2) The young OT's some thought to be solid are both gone.
3) OT's are fine as long as Brown and Cannon stay healthy, with Wynn as the swing backup). This is NOT terrible. Yes, Wynn might get better.
4) The WR's look better than expected, especially Agholor and Parker. This unit will improve with Myers and Thornton back.

Trade for a backup OG that can start if necessary and we are very solid, freeing up Onwenu as an emergency starter at RT. This OG should be expected to be on the team for 2-3 years solidifying the position. We will need to focus on OT in the offseason.
========================
What we don't know is how well the play-calling will be working by mid-season, and who will be healthy for the playoff run.
And then, there is the elephant in the room.

The QB position?

If the conclusion is that the people running the offence and coaching our young QB are not good enough then yes I think we should make a change. Consistency is great if we are seeing a positive progression, but if we are consistently mediocre or poor what the hell good is it?

If you had a question mark next to it, it means it was deleted.

Agreed. Jack Jones is playing, Collins is signed, so the Pats are adjusting, not putting their heads in the sand. Can only change so much at a time without disrupting the apple cart (the 1 - 3 apple cart ).

You geniuses don't want to double-down on how the outside zone blocking scheme will never work and how the offensive line sucks? Write Rhamondre Stevenson a letter about that.

Oh wait, maybe you want to complain about how we didn't go for it on fourth down on our own 12-yard line with seconds left, because "bad playcalling"

A lot like others here, I do think they're just stupid to go with "people related to me" as one category of possible assistant, and "people who've worked here before" as another. I think BB is in would-be god-emperor mode where he sees where he think he wants to go and he doesn't want anybody effing it up with their own opinions. Not healthy.

But no, "dump Matt Patricia" does not make an iota of sense.

Did I mention,

Shuttttt upppppppppppppppppppppppp?

First and second string QBs injured and you still take GB to overtime?

Come on now.

Miami effed us. Since God loves us, Tua will now have to stop playing.

Balmer beat us, GB squeeked by. We knew it could be a tough September. It was.

Who knows when we will get Mac back and what Zappe looks like when he's not the new toy.

But your theory is tank the season, start over, and by the way, continually roll the dice on the next guy on an ultra-short leash, and demand rings after 4 games as an OC?

No due disrespect but I've coughed up things that make more sense than this. Stop needing to urge grand strategic house-cleaning for frack's sake. Last week wasn't a win but there was a lot to like there. There certainly wasn't some gigantic flashing "fire Matt Patricia" message in that loss.

Did you run the option play for the post?

Thay had almost 500 yds of offense vs the Ravens. So the offense wasn't great after Mac and Hoyer went down and Zappe came in for the 2nd series of the game. What dod you expect? If you want to complain about an offense go become a Broncos or Colts fan....Or a Bucs fan for that matter....with all due respect, of course

Actually. I expected worse. Zappe was nowhere near ready to take snaps under center in an NFL regular season game. From the beginning I thought that Hoyer should have retired. I had doubts that Strange would be anywhere near effective as a player this season. I figured Henry would be at least what he was last season. I had and have confidence in our running game. All this said. I really can't point a finger at Patricia. First off, no matter how much YOU can't stand him as O co-ord., he's not going anywhere this season. Second, Strange has settled in and gets better every game so far. Third, this O line was suspect with every player doing their job, but Wynn's fall off has zero to do with Patricia. In fact,I'd be surprised if Matt didn't pull him and relegate him to backup duty.

I expect a strong running game vs. Detroit will keep us in the game. We'll see how Patricia has prepped Zappe to step up and at least be productive in the passing game. This is a real shyt sandwich we've been handed here with Mac's injury.Let's sit back and see how Patricia approaches the next six games before we hold any lynching parties.

I still can’t stand him, and he’s still coaching out of position, but this is a fair assessment.
