By the numbers: Patricia's offense downright offensive

I don't recall reading any concern this is the first I am hearing.
LOL, did you have your head in the sand? The signs of trouble were all there if you were watching the news.

Concern for Mac Jones and the new system August 10th:

Concern the Patriots haven't named an OC or DC and are "having people do jobs they have never done before" & "Do we trust the same head coach who developed Daniel Jones with Mac Jones development?" July 26th:

Did Joe Judge hold back Daniel Jones success and development? May 31st:

Concern the Patriots haven't named an OC April 8th:

Wow would you look at that. Shocked no one has discussed this on here yet.

Mac's bad decisions prohibits blaming Patricia for the offense. Turnovers have hurt them more than anything else. So it is tough to blame Patricia for the turnovers. I have said all along that I thought the "no OC" or going with Patricia/Judge combo was an awful idea, especially with a young QB. If Brady was still here, it really wouldn't matter, but he is not. So young QB, new system, and no real OC is going to continue to hurt the Pats.

The Pats are basically cooked if they give up more than 20 points. I doubt they reach double digits with Axel at the helm.

This post is not about Brady, but his departure is a pretty good line of demarcation, given the subject at hand:

The Patriots were 12-4 in Brady's last season (regular season). They are 18-18 since (again, regular season). Patricia's responsible, at most, for only part of the final 3 game stretch, and a 1-2 record. And we all knew that, even in a best case scenario, Patricia was going to have ups and downs as he learned how to be the O.C./playcaller.

Patricia may be "a" problem. Patricia is definitely not "the" problem.
This right here. The buck stops with Bill. Everyone wants to look for excuses but for some reason won't point at Bill. Belichick has completely dropped the ball in recent years as far as planning ahead. It seemed like for 10-15 years he was always two steps ahead. He had Nate Solder ready to step in for Matt Light, Kevin Faulk to Danny Woodhead to Shane Vereen to James White and so on. He always seemed to have a plan until the last few years. His draft picks stopped working out as well and he started reaching on bad trades and he had absolutely no succession plan for Brady to the point he seemed content to go with Brian Hoyer and Jarrett Stidham in 2020 until picking up Cam off the scrapheap. Next is the complete lack of a plan for the OC position. Josh interviewed for head coaching jobs almost every single year so Bill had to have some idea Josh would be gone at some point and still he had zero plan to replace him.

Maybe I'm an apologist but he had succession plans in place for Brady and himself. They both outlasted those plans. Attempt 2 (Stidham) and now 3 (Mac) at QB have been made. Obviously Josh gave up on waiting but it seems a possible attempt in Matty P is being groomed tho I say possible because the backlash from just making him a play caller has been so big Kraft might be hesitant now. Nevermind how it goes moving forward.

I don't disagree with the reactionary part but I think that stems from squeezing those last few years out of the dynasty. And then Brady leaving when I think Bill thought calling his bluff would work.

If Mac turns out to be good enough I think the cap is in good shape next year and that should allow BB to get more proactive before it's too late for him.

Especially true when your margin for error is slim to begin with.

Also, to accentuate your point, I believe 78% of NFL games are won by the team who wins the turnover battle.
Just wondering, is that statistic correct? It sounds about right. Can you share where that comes from and over what period of time?

It would be interesting to see QB- and Head Coach specific data on winning or losing the turnover battle. Take Rex Ryan for example. While he was known as a great defensive coach, he ran the most undisciplined operations in his time as HC. I bet his W-L percentage mirrors his turnover +/- game percetage.

There was a tweet around here, that showed Parker being the pats top receiver as far as targets go....

and just so someone doesn't misinterprets my post. I am not saying getting the ball to Parker is a problem. Forcing it to him is.
I get your point, but the premise is that receivers need to be where the play call or defensive formation dictates.

Parker is the leading receiver in yards, but the most egregious INT that looks like Mac throws into coverage was in fact Parker not getting the play re-set. There's a video where Matt Cassell breaks this down in detail, and Parker didn't pick up the re-set of the play at the line of scrimmage.

This was a huge reason why Brady wouldn't go to certain guys. Ocho-stinko had no clue what was going on at the line of scrimmage and couldn't tell a Cover Two from a cover letter.

Football Perspective website... according to the site, from 1950 through 2016, 78% was the percentage. Based on their data, it's been a remarkably consistent percentage.

SportsLine did similar research on games played 2016-2020... teams winning the turnover battle won games 151-46-1 straight up (76.6%) and 151-41-6 against the spread (78.6%).

More 3rd-down buffoonery from the brane trust yesterday.

No help for the clueless little rag-arm 3rd-stringer.

No trickeration.

No imagination.

Just more of the same-old, same-old: If it works, don't use it again; and if it doesn't, keep using it until it does...

I seriously thought the play calling was good. We are just being held back by inept QB play. With 3rd string QB there is not much he can do. And I am sure Patricia is also limited by Bill to not lose the game or to not put the match in a young QB's hands so that they lose confidence.

Did you see the outside zone runs. Those are different and they are mixing it. And with that the RPO opens up. Just because zappe was inexperienced he couldn't take advantage of it, but otherwise the running game is getting better, RPO is getting better and we might see those quick handoffs to tyquan like what we saw with Christian Watson in next couple of weeks . Patricia honestly has been a revelation. He is not the reason we are losing . We are losing close games now and shortly we will start winning the closer games .

One thing I see from bill is he wants the progression of QB to be slow and steady, not giving them unfettered access to the playbook and asking them to go wild.

Oh yes, the amazing Sean McVay & his popgun offense that has managed to score 7 TDs thru the first 4 games.

What a genius!!!

They've scored less TDs than the anemic Mac Jones/Bobby Hoyer/B Zappe Patriots offense.

Yeah that Sean McVay doesn't know what he is doing after all!

Exactly!!! I've stated it many times on this thread already. He's worse than the obviously putrid Patricia.

And really, the guy runs a popgun offense without Jared Goff.

Top 10 offense in NFL history with Goff back in 2018. Now scores 1.7 TDs per game. While Goff has the NFL's top offense in Detroit of all places.

Maybe that has everything to do with Goff throwing to all-pros like Brandin Cooks and Josh Reynolds in 2018-2019, instead of scrubs that Matthew Stafford is throwing to, like Cooper Kupp, Odell Beckham and Van Jefferson.

Now they have Dan Campbell who admits publicly his mistake in a game-time decision, something very unBelichickian.
Sorry man, but you're flat out wrong to infer that Belichick doesn't publicly admit mistakes. He's done it throughout his career.

2013 after a loss: "We just have to do a better job of coaching that. It's not his fault, that's one [where] me [and] the coaching staff, we just have to do a better job there."

2018 after a loss: ""It starts with me," Belichick said. "We've got to play better situational football. We'll work to try to achieve that."

2021 loss to the Colts: "As far as the game goes, obviously we didn't do anything well enough to win. We didn't play well and we didn't coach well."

Eagles Super Bowl loss: "In the end, we just couldn't quite make enough plays, and that was all on me," Belichick said, per Steve Serby of the New York Post.

He failed to add - "and I shouldn't have benched one of our best defensive backs Malcolm Butler for the entire game when we were getting torched by Nick Foles just to make a disciplinary point to satisfy my own ego. We might have won the Superbowl if I hadn't insisted on that."

“I just did what I always do, “ he continued. “Hold players accountable to create a winning culture. It’s worked so far. Until today. But it’ll probably win us a Super Bowl next year… The only time I had a player revolt was in 2009. A few bad apples, could not get through to them. That’s not the way to run a football team.”

I am NOT a believer is our current coaching system with no OC and Patricia doing double duty.

HOWEVER, HOWEVER, the play-calling and OL play have been as good as in past years, and not a primary issue. Most of us expected 1-3, with the system on offense taking at least this long to mesh.

The RB's have been fine. The receiver play is certainly good enough to win.
=======================
We can (and should) complain about the play of the #7 Lb (Tavai) or why is Wynn is a poor RT. But those aren't the issues that will keep us out of the playoffs. Even these two weaknesses are somewhat reduced with the acquisition of Cannon and Collins.
================================
The elephant in the room is QB play. If we have AVERAGE qb play for the rest of the year, we should be fighting for the playoffs at the end. The rest of the Offense is good enough for that. The Defense and Special Teams are certainly good enough to be in the playoffs.

Sadly, I don't expect average qb play for the rest of the year. We don't have QB's that are better than 7 QB's in the AFC. We have Zappe and a Jones coming back from injuries.

That's all just ****ing gobbledy-gook he says after every loss, signifying absolutely ****ing nothing.

Our 3rd-down & red zone play-calling has been Unacceptable.

I don't think either of these units are PO-caliber.

You guys ***** about him when he says nothing and treats the media like garbage but then you call what he actually does say gobbledy gook.
