I look to be in the minority, but I'd take the #11 pick over Butler on a large deal. But I wouldn't complain about Butler being re-signed, either.

Nah, he's more wrong than right. We know he's a "free agent" but unless the Patriots agree to it has can't go anywhere without us getting the team's #1 pick. All this talk about #32 - that could happen but unless the Patriots agree, Butler can't go to N.O. (this year) without #11 coming back.

Bottom line, he's way more Restricted than Free Agent right now.

Anything other that that, or play out his contract requires Pats to make a concession.

That logic is dreadful. For all we know, Payton may well have communicated that he is willing to give up #32 but not #11, and BB may well feel that #32 is still better than one year of a grumbly MB.

They would offer it because New England has leverage. Obviously, they would like to not have to agree with New England as well as agree on contract with Butler, but for that, they would have to pay a #1.

It has nothing to do with being desperate. If NE wants, they could say #11 or no deal. If they except #32, they decided that's what they want. That's leverage. Everything depends on what NE wants to do, unless NO sends #11.

As pointed out by others, NO has the leverage to refuse to offer #11, so from the standpoint of NE and NO it is like any other trade deal. Both sides have leverage over the other and each side can walk away from the table.

Everyone has the option to not do a deal, to not get the player. That's not what you call leverage. They would force the Patriots to have a top corner play for well under market.

That's not leverage. It's heads I win, tails you lose. The only thing NO can do unilaterally, is sign him and pay the #11.

The patriots are not allowed to discuss trading a player who is not under contract. Until he signs the tender they cannot discuss trading him.
