Now that is truly hurtful.

You'll always have the goat pic and the girly expression on the water slide.

Quite happy to have a coach with the balls to cut anyone who doesn't perform regardless of draft position.

This one saddens me as I was so excited when the Pats got him. Major disappointment. We waited for Butler to "make a f*cking play, Darius" like Brady shouted to him from the sideline last season, but it never happened. Officially a bust for us.

Whoa did Brady really say that? That seems way out of line to me...

Better quit while you're ahead or we'll pull out the content of that GQ magazine from which there is no return.

Wow. Tate now butler gone.. Mathews says hi

Just give it a freaking rest.
A) He was graded as a 3rd round talent whose's skills was only as a pass rusher.
B) There were rumors of HgH. Seeing how his best friend was busted a year later for steroids, I wouldn't be surprised if he actually used performance enhancing drugs during his junior and senior year at College at USC.
C) Even at USC during his senior year, he was a semi part time starter.
D) Yesterday, I watched the recent SB between the Packers and Steelers on the NFL network. I decided to pay attention to Clay Matthews when the Packers were on Defense. I saw him getting owned by the Steelers 2nd TE- Matt Spath (or something like that..All I know is that he went to Uni of Minnesota). The Steelers, for the most part, were running to the right side...towards Clay Matthews. They ran for around 76 yards against him. He would get washed up in blocks to the insides, sometimes got pancaked by their 2nd TE and would, for the most part, loose outside contain on a run play. Oh, the Packers run D had better success when the Steelers ran to their left against the Packers 34OLB-Frank Zambo.

So, let's review.
-Clay was rated as a 3rd round talent who jumped up during the Senior Bowl.
-He played among (USC played a 34 Leo) Brian Cushing, rated as a 1st round pick, Malaguga (sp?) rated as a mid to late 1st round to early 2nd rounder, and Kaluka Maiava, rated in the mid to late round (who went in the 4th round early). Didn't know if he was a product of the system, a great player who was a semi starter or a product of great plays by his front 7.
-There were talks about performance enhancing abuses among the USC players.
-Clay was a semi starter during his last year in College.

I don't know if I'd toot my horn about Slauson.

=====================================

After thinking for a few minutes, I am actually more comfortable with Slausen then Greene.

Greene can be a beast, yet there is something about him (injuries maybe) that I do not trust.

Slausen plays between two rock steady pro bowlers, and for that reason I am not as concerned about him as I might be.

Oh I'll quit.

We could go round and a round, plenty of ammo on both QBs out there.

But ... but ... but ... he can rush the passer!

This is probably just a start.Man i hope Dowling and Solder pan out.I also never understood them taking 2 RBs in the draft. They have Woodhead and BJE

Especially when RBs never get hurt.

I watched DB from day 1 at UConn and I'll tell you that the problems he had here, he had there. He struggled to make a play on the ball when he had to turn and run with the wr.

I was, and still will be, a fan of his because of who he is as a person, not just a football player. I'm sorry it did not work out for him in NE and wish him well.

I've heard the same thing.

He's a hometown boy and I wish him well. I actually fully respect his dedication to the game and resolve to work hard and do his best.

Unfortunately, I also think his best might not be good enough, at least for the Patriots.

But I hope he has a sense that although he was cut, there's still a significant amount of fan respect for him.

All in all I think this says more good things about the Patriots depth than it is an indictment of Butler.

Butler never regressed because he was clueless from Day 1.

Didnt he go from being thin to jacked over one summer too, I remember all the talk and thought he might be a risky pick,.

Several ways of approaching this draft problem.

Historical parallel: Chuck Noll early 80s. Noll had been such a drafting genius throughout his tenure when he started to stumble it took onlookers about 5 years to realize the Steeler dynasty talent was not being replenished. He made blunder after blunder. He never regained his magic, with a few exceptions like Louis Lipps.

BB analysis: BB is recognizing his errors, not denying them like Noll did. That is a positive development, and indicates the potential for a drafting renaissance, supported by limited evidence from draftee performances in 2010.

As for the root reason for these draft errors, the problem may not be entirely related to the talent drafted, but the quality of coaching draftees are receiving. I do not mean they are deprived of information, I am speaking about the leadership ability of the extended coaching staff.

The principle decline for the Pats these past 5 years has been the coaching talent drain. Coaches such as Romeo, Charlie et al are invaluable leaders, and cannot be easily replaced. They are mentors, motivators, and tacticians, and influence every player with whom they come in contact. On a day to day basis they helped mold young men into mature, game ready warriors.

There is no shame in stating that their successors have not measured up from a talent development standpoint.

If we open our eyes and look closely at the debacle that occurred last playoffs, we will observe that our team was outcoached. If we match up the Jets current coaching staff with our coaching staff, man for man, an argument can be made the only position we dominate is Head coach. The Jets have Bill Callahan, Tom Moore, and Mike Westhoff on staff, 3 superior coaches. Ryan has to do is bluster to the media and motivate his defense, which is what he should be doing, that is his talent.

The principle area where we need improvement is in the coaching staff and player development. Hopefully the sting of last season was educational not just for our players but for the young bucks on the staff as well, who have matured as coaches. If so, the sky is the limit for this club this season, and championship predictions are justified.

The entire Belichick/Patriot strategy this past decade doesn't work moving forward if the Patriots don't have a superior coaching staff and development system. If it's truly the case that our extended coaching staff is not up to par, we need to go out and bring in some more experienced coaches. Trading draft picks and going for volume works fine if you know you can coach a player up, but it all falls apart if your coaches and coordinators are learning the job as well and can't improve a player.

I wonder how some will feel around here when all the whipping boys are gone? I'm sure they'll find another one very easily.
