Browns coaching staff “irate” with FO over Garoppolo trade

Saw this this morning and didn’t see it anywhere else here, found it funny. Essentially the Browns Front Office went home early the night of the Jimmy G trade and no one was even around to try to get in on the trade action, so SF got Jimmy easily... Cleveland people didn’t even know about the trade until well after the fact when Hue’s coaching staff told them about it, and they weren’t happy:









... So, Hue Jackson badly wanted Jimmy but they failed to get him in the offseason or during the draft. Now he comes available, and his front office isn’t even around to try to make it happen for him the night before the trade deadline.

Then you get the news of the attempted trade for McCarron, which now appears to be a move made by their FO just to appease the coaching staff to make it look like they’re trying... except, they F that up too.

It must really suck to be a Browns fan.

A perfect example of why the Browns are the Browns. The FO was more concerned to not be late for Happy Hour than to focus on their work during a crucial period of the NFL calendar. The Browns will never get better until everyone in the front office is replaced, including in the corner office.

We know the browns front office is messed up, but why do the Patriots not make sure they contact an interested party like the Browns sooner or at least wait until morning?

It's not like Jimmy was traded on the deadline. It doesn't make sense.

They passed on Wentz, passed on Watson, and now Jimmy.

If Jimmy becomes as good as those two, that FO won't last another season.

I can’t imagine Belichick wanting to wait around on a front office who has already left for Happy Hour, especially when that group is on the same team he has a distaste for.

It’s a combination of things - first of all, the second rounder is gonna be a really high one so it’s pretty good compensation. Second of all, he has shown in the last couple days that he really personally liked Jimmy and so he most likely was considering the best situation for Jimmy as well. It seems clear that SF is a better situation - at the very least, he can be confident that the HC and GM will remain in place for a while, allowing Jimmy to grow in the role. Plus they are out of the conference. So weigh all that against Cleveland who wasn’t even there to answer the phone, fired Belichick once upon a time, and is a seemingly more chaotic environment for the player, and it probably made for an easy decision for BB.

I buy only some of that. I am sure the Patriots called them, wby wouldn't they if they wanted a great return. GM's call each other all the time, sure they had calls for this well ahead of the deadline also. GM's work in a round tbe clock virtual office. They made a decision, not the one the coaches wanted....c'est la vie.

I am just flabbergasted at the fact that there are not 32 qualified leaders in the sporting industry that, with the compensation awarded by NFL jobs, could run an organization at least to a competent level of technical functionality. Like, I get that not every team is going to be successful on the field, that's the nature of pro sports, but are you telling me there's less than 32 general managers in the whole country that can lead a staff well enough to make a phone call on time? It's baffling.
