We need a lot of help only if you don't believe in Chaisson, Landry and Ponder (and Meyers and Jennings).

Swinson comes in as 5th or 6th on the EDGE depth chart. Do you disagree?
If Swinson can move better than Landry did last Thursday I will take it. Landry looked slow and old as Fields jogged around him for the TD.

Swinson will be playing off adrenaline early on..so hopefully he won't create any penalties to hurt the team.
That rarely happens when players don't get any reps or are inactive.

Chaisson, Landry, Ponder, and Jennings will likely get all the reps at EDGE as they did last week.

I don't see why we'd sit any of them to have Swinson active.

That doesn't even count Murphy who Vrabel brought in a few weeks ago.
=======
I suppose that the team could have him beat out Murphy for the spot on the active roster and give him the one defensive reps that Murphy had.

Has Murphy even seen the field? Also I'd imagine Vrabel didn't promote Swinson just to have him inactive.. in that case may as well kept him developing on the PS.

We know what Jennings is. Swinson is the rookie 5th rounder who fits a need as an added edge rusher.

Why continue the guess that Swinson is being signed to contribute in the near future? See the post below,

Other teams have made offers and Swinson chose the patriots.

And there u have it. Weight related and whatever else he was alluding to.
Hope he's active soon, I want to see what he's got.

I don't want to "see what he's got". That would mean that someone (or two) who Vrabel thinks is a better player would be out injured.

My guess isn't about the near future it's about contributing now. Mike Smith and Vrabel obviously feel comfortable in his development to promote him to the 53.

He fits a much needed role at edge. Landry is hampered by the injury he's playing through. So he could help provide some depth and allow Landry some snaps off perhaps? Swinson was drafted here and NE is all he knows about being in the NFL so it's no suprise he chose to stay... if we were 2-9 I'm sure he'd probably look at other offers.

I think you meant the post "above"** (that is the one posted by @manxman2601 w/ the Masslive link); but for those too lazy to click the link....see quote below
(** or MGTeich, do you read the board backwards?; ... that might explain some things )

Swinson:
“I feel like when I first came in, I wasn’t on top of just like what I need to be on top of, like business-wise,” Swinson said. “And Vrabes told me that off the jump, like I just wasn’t on top of everything, my weight and everything, and just overall learning how to be a professional. And just with that time period they gave me, I learned a whole bunch and just was able to grow on the overall aspect of how I’m coming along with the process.”

I like that this story gives you another view at Vrabes being up-front and honest w players, but also "consequent" that there are specific results from your own actions. That the player has to own it.

- I think that helps build what Vrabes appears to have going on with this team... a real good group that just WANTS TO BE HERE.
That too will be a magnet next off-season for FAs who otherwise might say 'Taxachussets' or another excuse.

Gumby,

Thanks for sharing this. Very insightful. This here is to be expected with rookies coming in. Ideally you'd like all rookies to be mature like Campbell or drake was coming in the league.. however some guys still have to go through the maturation process as they acclimate to the NFL.

The fact that he's been promoted to the 53 is an endorsement by Vrabes and the coaching a staff that he's ready to be a contributing player.

Swinson could have signed to an active roster but chose tovstay he because he recognized that Vrabel isnt bullshitting players about sticking with theem and allowing them to develop. Having that kind of culture in the Patriots organization is going to benefit them great going forward. Belieiving in the right people, helping them develop, and standing by them is how you build great organizations, no matter what business you are in.

If he’s active Vrabel would not share your opinion that someone is better.

He brought him up because he had offers from other teams. Leaving him on the practice squad wasn’t an option.
