Book claims that Brady was furious with Kraft after Deflategate.

Kraft forever tarnished his legacy to many die hard fans. Ever since the day he took the stage and folded like a .99 lawn chair, I’ve cursed at him or snarled every time I’ve see his face on TV. I wouldnt even listen to his SB acceptance speech and left the room. I’ll never forget every single media and league figure involved in the frame job, and I take great pleasure in their misfortunes. I hope Goodell is killed in some type of Saw torture scenario.

I still remember having my jaw drop just before the 2015 season opener (either just before Berman issued his ruling or just after but waiting to see if the NFL would be able to get an emergency stay of Berman's ruling) when Kraft was interviewed and said "Well, I hope that everyone who deserves to play will be playing." Couldn't even mention Brady by name.

(I also think that in the immediate aftermath of the story breaking that Belichick didn't fully trust Brady either, with his "Well, you'll have to ask Tom about how the balls are prepared" remark. I sometimes wonder how much that has contributed to the reported tension between the two in addition to the Guerrero stuff.)

Apparently by not screwing up enough to affect $$$s that networks and sponsors will pay. NFL income and appreciation in franchise value has far outpaced inflation and normal rates of asset appreciation.

I doubt that Goodell has any special skills that helped it along though. It is merely that the goose lays golden eggs, so its hard to hate the goose, even if it's a mean stupid SOB.
I would postulate that Brady and Belichick were far more responsible for the increase in value of the franchise than Goodell. Take away Brady and Belichick and this franchise is valued like Detroit or Arizona, big markets that never won a championship... far, far less than the Patriots are valued today..

Brady was pissed because he found out, despite his millions, he is an employee and Kraft is the one that ownes the plane.

Actually, he supported someone else. Reynolds, of Fidelity investments. Finalists For Top NFL Job Named

From what I remember, Kraft supported a different candidate through the process until it became clear that he was one of 2 or 3 holdouts not supporting Goodell. Knowing that the vote had to be unanimous and that he wasn't going to convince 28 or so other owners to change their minds, he shifted his support to Goodell.

Somehow, the narrative became that Kraft handpicked Goodell to be commissioner and then Goodell returned the favor by going easy on his team during Spygate. Both those ideas are the opposite of what actually happened, but people believe that's the real story.

Yeah, those gains experienced by the NFL were enjoyed in spite of Goodell. Not because of him. As a matter of fact, one can easily make the argument that Goodell’s time as commissioner has done more harm to the NFL’s bottom line, both present and future, than anything.

Apparently the owners don't agree with you on that. (Though I do.)
Goodell is the perfect example of being “at the right place at the right time”. He has benefited from the rise of fantasy football.

I'm so done with this topic.

Peter Principle in full effect

I understand Brady being pissed, I would have been too.

But in retrospect, I don't think there's a hell of a lot Kraft could have done to alleviate the situation.

The league decided the verdict before it even began, they knew where they wanted to end up (Brady and/or BB suspended) and aside from Kraft closing up shop (ending the franchise) I don't think there is anything that could have been done to avoid that suspension.

Not really a Kraft apologist but I do think the entire situation was above even his head.
Woah - just listened to Reality Check. Nice username sir or madam.

Agreed on the take as well.

Edit: also just realized I need to change my profile pic

Well that’s interesting. One of the authors of the book was on the radio and claimed that (a) Kraft forced Jimmy G to be dealt, and (b) he did so as part of rebuilding his damaged relationship with Brady.

The author also claims to have spent time with the Krafts, so there might actually be something to that.

While I’m not saying it’s necessarily likely, I wouldn’t be shocked if BB walked away after this season. I still think there’s more going on behind the scenes than we all want to admit.

First thing I thought when I saw the title - doing a solid for Brady on JG was a mulligan on DFG.
