Bills FA CB Stephon Gilmore signs 5-year deal w/New England

Like some of us were saying, Pats usually nail the market on their guys. But SOME people on here really thought he was gonna get $17-18m per

Still think he gets Collins money from NE at the end of the day.

I wouldn't mind paying two corners top dollar, but you don't need to pay two corners top dollar. It's completely unnecessary. Butler is gone. I'll be suprised if he gets extended. I'm even more suprised belichick wants to give big money to Gilmore and not butler

I said if. read the post again. I do think it's possible.

Possible but unlikely. MB is worth a 1st round pick but then they still need to pay him big money on a long term deal.
Though it only takes one desperate bottom-feeder to do it. I hope not.

Wrong with Butler. Ok. Sometimes these guys type so fast you can't decipher what they mean.

I think he meant BB. Saints want more and BB is not offering enough for Butler.

Question: After 4 pm can BB still trade Butler? Has to be before, correct?

Just a note, people, and I'm not saying that Butler's staying/going/retiring/ascending to godhood:

  • The Patriots offense is going to be returning, essentially, intact.
  • The Patriots have many millions to spend.
  • The Patriots have very little money invested in the defense.
  • The Patriots can easily afford to pay Hightower, Butler, and Gilmore, and could still add another big ticket defender.
But you have to consider the longer term as well. There will need to be a lot of money spent on the offensive side of the ball during the term of these contracts.
Fitting them in this years cap is easy. Keeping a workable long term structure is the hard part.
If you have 14 mill a piece tied up in butler 9 in mccourty 4 in Chung and another 8 in the reserves that close to 1/3 of your cap just in the secondary.

I've always been a big fan. Thought Gilmore was the best corner on the market and I don't think there's really anything between him and Butler. It will be interesting to see what happens with Butler moving forward. Butler and Gilmore together would be a terrific secondary.

Anybody have Bills fans reactions? I can't find one of their boards.

Keep them both for a year while the Joneses develop.
Or
Have Gilmore and a 1st round pick if Butler leaves.

Not a lot of downside there

Andrew Brandt: 0 Super Bowl Rings

Nothing wrong with Belichick. Might be something wrong with Andrew Brandt, though.

He was quoting the Saints front office.

Chung's number is small ($3.8m) for 2018
McCourty's $12m and $13.5m for '18 and '19

It's not an issue.

They are ehh about it...they are more arguing about their cap space it seems

IMO if the Pats move Butler and need to trade their first for a 2nd to do it I will be ticked. Butler should not require you to do anything else. He is plenty good as is and his value should be enough for a straight up trade.
He is an RFA. That makes a difference. You ttade player and contact and butler comes with the dynamic that you either pay him big money or it's a 1 year deal.
Giving our first and getting their second is only a trade down of about a dozen spots.

Gilmore is a year younger

Oh man... guys... As if Andrew Brandt is sitting in the Saints front office right now. He's based in Philadelphia, PA.
