Yea he played a full season or close to it at RG. I really like Leatherwood a lot. His work ethic and play style. Hes a pro and that's one of things you get when buying Bama players. I honestly think he could play tackle or guard. Good athlete, good footwork/anchor, prides himself on not getting beat and doing the little things right.
He is probably out of reach..the first round position from us too high the second round maybe he will be gone i think.
Yup I'm taking it with a grain of salt and really don't care as long as he's a worker and football player. His teammates obviously love him. People are too quick to judge these kids and a lot of them come from backgrounds like this. Can't hold it against a poor kid. Can't hold it against a rich kid as long as he's working.
Yeah true the kid can't anything for his uncle whatsoever or where he is born
Id love Ridder in the early 2nd I think he goes earlier than most expect. Agreed with Wilson/Lance.
I would probably love every qb tbh it is probably an upgrade of our current situation or at least worth the shot to find the new franchise qb and i mean that run game is a good foundation to get a young qb developed
Id be happy with any of the big 3-4 WR. Even Chase who I'm a little lower on than most. Hes a beast at times. Isn't afraid to get physical anywhere on the field.
Me too, even our wr scouting did not exactly give us the best available wr i am confident that we don't make a mistake with picking one of smith waddle or chase. they look like a number 1 wr in the nfl
100%

LB has a few on them. Small projects that could be very good overall in 2 years.

Thanks, BCG this draft prospect list is JUST what I needed to excite my passions at a time of low ebb. But here's the problem. So many VERY intriguing prospect and so few picks. If we were able to wind up with just 2 of the picks you prominently mentioned it will be a miracle.
We have 10-11 picks I believe. I think we're good there. I'd love to use our comp picks to get another 2nd.
A few idle thoughts. Just speaking in generalities this should be our first concern.....and our second, and our third. SPEED. Speed at WR, Speed at LB, Speed on the defensive outside. For me to truly be happy after the draft I will want to think that after our picks are all in, and initial FA's signed, I can safely project that this a significantly faster team than this year's edition.
Agreed speed is key and a must here. We need a true speed threat and a slot/gadget player. Myers could be a solid chain mover but this wr corp needs an overhaul.
My guess is that we are going to end up 7-9 and picking between 14-18 in the draft. Looking at our draft capital I can see us move up 4 spots if there is a MUST have guy there. But while I can see there being a lot of good players in that range, our needs are just too great to lose one or more of our second or 3rd round picks to move up. Assuming we are picking at say 16 there WILL be one of the top LB's, DT, WR's OT's available, and as you mentioned there WILL be solid prospects in rounds 2 -4 that will answers some of our questions.
Yup we'll have a solid group to choose from in that IDL/CB/LB etc will be mostly untouched. I'm thinking we have 7-10 first round grades. Maybe one or two on the brink. We'll choose from that small group or trade back. I really wouldn't mind a three parter episode in the 2nd round. Something like Chung, Brace but a good player and Vollmer would be nice Ken. Don't think it's that crazy with our ammo and needs.
For this season, when we are more than just one player away, why tie up a good hunk of our draft capital on just one pick. Lets use them all and if we want to move up, lets do it in rounds 2-4 when the cost isn't that great.
Yup see above
The QB position - and while I believe that history will show that there will be a QB or 2 from this draft that isn't named Lawrence or Fields, that will end up being a good to great player, the fact is that most of those taken after these 2 WON'T be. It is hard to evaluate processing speed and field vision, and those are really the 2 talents that separate good from mediocre...or bad. I'd rather take my chances on finding somebody in the existing secondary market and find the gem who you can coach up to being a quality guy. A guy who's just been in the wrong system, or badly coached, etc. But someone you at least have NFL film on..

Matthew Stafford excites me the most, mostly because he'd only cost $9MM next year and clearly has some talent. Could he throw off a decade of losing remains to be seen, but it's an interesting risk given the alternative. Bottom Line: I just don't see any of the "intriguing" QB prospects dropping to the Pats at "16" and those that do will likely be a project who will need a year or 2 on the bench if they are going to have any chance to succeed. If that's the case, why not pick one in the 3rd or 4th round and let them wait.

I want the 2 players we pick in the first and 2nd round to be guys who will get significant snaps right out of the box. That is NOT going to be a QB.
I think Bill wants a vet a QB in the worst way. Taking one early, even if it works out is project. If it doesn't work out its a 4-5 year set back. I'd take a bait on Wilson and Lance in a small trade or if they fell but understand the position Bill is in. Essentially he's on a 4-5 year plan himself and might not want to take a risk that big? There are a few young guys that might be there after round one that would make sense if we wanted to go Vet/Bridge to young buck.

Bacon, are you getting paid for this yet? Seriously, it is such a waste that most football fans in general don't know where to get access to your top tier content.
I wish but that'll never happen. As big as the draft is its tough to make any real money of it. Just saw Matt Miller write his final mock for Bleacher. Josh Norris is out at his gig pretty soon I believe. The draft network is hanging on by a thread (rich dad/target CEO was funding it until it wasn't making money) Plus I'm a dummy and not a good writer. Just decent when it comes to eval/grading prospects. Appreciate it though. I'll be as long as Ian let's me.

The only thing I really want to do is an occasional podcast on the draft/pats. Hopefully in the future.

Like I mentioned earlier Chase is a bully. I love the aggression, effort and attitude towards the position. I mean you see him use push/pull moves, swipes to get off the los. Idk I feel like ideally you want a dependable slot, bully X and versatile Z nowadays and Chase fits that X mold. You watch him play and the effort he puts in to get open, make a play is on his sleeve. Wish he was a little bigger, want to see how he runs/moves during drills but he's the type where his attitude and work ethic really make a difference, the no-quit on a play attitude. Man that LSU offense last year was as good as it gets. They might have 3 first round WRs, QB & RB from that group.

Could be Shaq Mason situation. Laufenberg's power, leverage and body control are very good. Fires off the line. Very quick. Obviously not a finished product but lots of potential

Kyle Pitts vs Jaycee Horn (Joe's Kid, Asante's kid is eligible too and a projected top 50-75 pick. Yea we're old) Mukuamu tried him as well. Pitts got the better of him there. This really shows off two versatile, tough players. Horn shut down Seth Williams this year and really made himself some money this season. Definitely has his Dad's confidence and toughness.

Big time effort and motor. Pass rush plan & hand usage improved but need more work. Versatility on line. Huge prospect at 6'6/270 with a nice skill set to work with.

I have horn as a top 20 player in this draft. He would be excellent in our defense with more technique work.

You are spot on regarding Nixon. When the video started i was confused, i thought i was watching a line backer intercepting the ball and running with it. Its hard to believe that that was a 300lber running like that. Must be nothing but muscle hes so trim.
He's a fire hydrant. Quick off the line. Comes off with hips and hands instead of feet. Has some juice when he puts his hands you. Can split doubles at times. Maintain gap integrity - 2 gap. He's a nice power player. Has a plan when he rushes. IDL class isn't that bad overall. Just need to have a plan with these guys and don't expect game changers but just really solid players.

a potential deatrich Wise replacement?

Stokes is one of a few corners that's really good at creating subtle contact throughout the stem-route to disrupt timing and the flow of the play. He's more consistent but his partner in the secondary, Campbell has some splash plays that make you fall in love with his size and potential.

Reminder that Schwartz has world class speed but Tyson is a little bit of a freak himself.

Has that body type we like or used to? Yea I thought of Wise, Flowers in terms of physique. Few other long guys like that. Was saying to a few people ... It looks like Bill is continuing to go smaller tweener/LB types but it's clear he still wants those guys. Just for kicking inside it seems.

I do like the speed of Wino, Uche, Dugger so far. Hopefully Hightower comes back and Jennings takes a few steps next year.

I agree and we need still some big guys there on the edge especially on early downs. Wise is playing outside on early downs there sometimes not that often it feels but with a NT and Guy inside having such a dude on the outside should stabilize the run defense better than having smaller simon or bower there. In passing downs move them inside as you said, sometimes outside when wino or uche going in the pass rush from outside to inside..i mean we clearly need some DE/Edge help against both run and pass..

Dito, esp duggers athletic against the run is a nice piece for our run defense. When our D-Line prevent O-Line to the second level he is gonna make a lot of tackles. I think he is in the top 5 or 6 of our tackling leaders with sth around 50 or so.
Uche and Wino's presence and speed is our best piece in the pass rush next to butler. But still need to figure out how to use them on early downs somehow. The other guys there can't be better and should be more of a backup not starter role.
Jennings well, i thought he would have the biggest impact early on due to similar defense scheme, better competition, more experience and better size but it feels like he needs time to speed up his play to nfl level. Hope he can set an impact on early down with his frame and get a bigger role but his lack of speed and quicknes could limit his role i'm afraid

Pitts will be out of our range, but I could see Trask and/or Toney. Toney can line up as the X, Y, or Z. He can come out of the backfield as well. I think that, if we take him, he will start as a kick returner first since he also has experience there. He’s a Swiss Army knife.

I love Nixon, but as a 3-tech. I don’t think he has enough sand in his ass to line up at the nose at this level. Tufele might be able to hold up there, but I didn’t see enough of him there this season to make a judgment on that front. Barmore is my personal favorite DT, and I’d expect us to be very interested if he falls to us. Plays in a similar scheme, under a similarly demanding HC, and can line up as the 0-3 tech and do damage. What do you think of a double dip with Jordan Davis in the late rounds, @BaconGrundleCandy?
I think Trask is a legit possibility. I don't think we can overlook the possibility of Mac Jones, either. We know that BB will get great intel from Saban. Check that. Bill already has great intel from Saban. They could take DeVonta Smith round one and Jones round two.

would be happy about smith not so much on jones tbh, i mean every qb who's name is not newton is highly welcome but jones idk, would rather see taking a shot on ridder a little bit later late second early third if he is still there but maybe gone by then
