Belichick, the Pats’ Defense, and Swagger

Swagger is what losers and fans talk about.

A team not celebrating and not acting like a team is something that Belichick has always cared about because the guy seems to pay attention the locker room 'vibe' as much as he manages the roster.

In the early 2000s there was a team meeting where Belichick made a point about how nobody was helping up Kevin Faulk after a play to highlight that they weren't acting like a team.

I just think it's two very different topics.

That whole coaching clip with Belichik addressing the team in the film room was really interesting, (I think Gary Guyton) making a good play while his team-mates didn't seem to care.

Seemed like the whole coaching point boiled down to intimidating the other team. Maybe it's similar to swagger, but if it's not backed up by good execution and solid play, it's just punk behavior in BB's book

That's the clip of Belichick talking to the 2009 team about this.

Gotta love: "That's the look right there fellas. . . It's gonna be a long night."

Nice clip (except for the drunken-sounding Bob meanderings interspersed)

I agree. There is nothing more meaningless than the grandstanding that goes on after every play. End zone dances and elaborate celebrations are ridiculous
I cringe when if I see over celebrating a TD and as long as BB is coaching will not see grandstanding. I always remember an analyst (former QB, fired by ESPN) stating how powerful the Patriots were after the 2004 Super Bowl. He stated every defensive player signaled a hand movement in unison before the snap. It might not be defined as swagger, but its damn good.

Think it's reading into it a bit muhh because they didn't dance after a 3rd down stop in the 1st quarter
I always thought of it as acting like professionals.

My wife and I saw him in Hartford around 1984. What an incredible show.

From the beginning we could see that he was the type who paid attention to detail, but we never realized just how far he goes. He's the epitome of the no stone left unturned type of HC.
