Rookie running back Shane Vereen left Wednesday night's season ticket holder practice session and did not return.
The second-round tailback, who was participating in his second practice with the team, had just signed his four-year contract on Tuesday. From the looks of the injury, it appeared Vereen hurt his hamstring.
The hamstring injury is unfortunate, but not surprising. One of the many side-effects of the lockout was thought to be nagging injuries; Which is the one of the concerns I have with this incident. Hamstring injuries are the type to linger for many weeks and I would hate for Vereen to miss any action during the season.
Vereen's speed has been noteworthy over the last two practices, one of the many great attributes the Cal tailback has in his arsenal. The running back should turn heads when he takes the field for games in just a few weeks. At this point, however, I am just hoping the rookie will be healthy for that to happen.
Vereen's injury status is unclear and now becomes something to monitor over the next couple of days. I will pass along updates as they come available.
