Announced Patriots cuts: countdown to 53

I'm gonna be honest. I would not be surprised at all to see Tarpinian lining up at safety for the Pats...
What? A 235 LB at safety? I know he hasn't played there this year. Does he have any exp at S in college?

I don't think so. He was ST player for 3 years and finally got the chance to play either 4-3 mlb or 43 will.

Rodney played safety in the 225 - 235 range.

While he did not play safety in college, he was an excellent coverage LB...

I could see him doing a Don Davis.. but on a more permanent basis..

He's got 4.5 speed, his shuttle was 4.1 and his 3 cone is a 6.78... He's was an option QB in high school and was a leader in the Iowa LB corps despite his injuries.

Hmm...and we have no FB on the roster. I don't think we ever use one, though...

We will use Ridley in place of Morris.

Hernandez was used as a FB on the 2nd BJGE TD. I hope never to see that again. He is too valuable.

Actually, Tarpinian was supposed to to be the starting WLB as a sophomore, but missed the 1st 4 games of the season in 2007. In 2008 and 2009, saw time as a coverage LB and on Special teams.. Was the starting MLB in 2010, but injuries to his neck/hand caused him to miss time.

Gronkowski has been used as a lead blocker on runs numerous times.. Not my preference.. Hence Lousaka Polite being someone I'd like the Pats to sign since he would tear us up..

Ok, you're the second person that has said Price is faster. I readily admit that the statement I made that Slater is by far the fastest receiver on the team is not accurate. Price is right up there with him.

When you say Slater is not faster than Price, what do you base that on? Both had similar 40 times, and I have no idea how to watch two guys in two separate scenarios and judge incremental speed differences. What are you going on here?

Yes, both have similar 40 times, and rumor is that Slater is the fastest guy on the team having beat out everyone else in foot races.

However what makes Price stand above Slater is his separation ability which is integral for a WR. His launch is explosive, and similar to top-rated WRs he has the ability to be at full speed after a few steps.

In last season's last game against Miami, he exploded by Vontae Davis on an inside slant hot read. Davis turned to tackle and couldn't even touch him.

He isnt faster than Price. IIRC one of those was a deep pass and 2 others were catch and runs.
Regardless, the original suggestion was that we would be using Slater as our deep threat. I think its safe to say thats quite a stretch. Arguing over whether he caught 1 or 2 long passes against guys who were cut today isnt really pertinent. We know the one that just happened in game 4 was a crossing route with run after the catch, not a fly.

I'm not going to argue the point, but in a radio interview TB12 himself said Matty was the the fastest player on the team, and would have easily beaten Randy in the 100. Maybe it was just his opinion, but I would go with it.

Of course, TB12 was smart enough not to point out that if TB12 tried to run the 100, they'd need an hourglass to time it.

For some reason, Price seems to have been pigeonholed as the possession guy, whereas Tate was the burner. Just look at the 40 times:

Taylor Price*|*Ohio,*WR*:*2010 NFL Draft Scout Player Profile

Slater:

Matt Slater*|*UCLA,*FS*:*2008 NFL Draft Scout Player Profile

They're about the same, I believe. In terms of game speed, I buy that Slater's a bit faster, but they can both run.

On the WEEI final 53 blog entry, they said that Slater was "the closest thing to a burner" that this team has. I really don't get why so many people are unaware of Price's speed, short of just not having seen him play. On the few occasions that we've seen him, he's definitely displayed it.

Watched the first half of this year's Insight Bowl against Mizzou 's spread attack and Tarpinian was in coverage on almost every play it seemed and looked to have very good movement skills.

Only the guys listed in brackets had better results @ the Combine although Pro Day results should be taken with a pinch of salt but the guy is certainly a very good athlete.

Re: Yeatman cut

Now that the cuts are over when I am I supposed to bring up that Hoyer trade you were touting?

Come on man, Solderking's coming along, he obviously loves the game and his enthusiasm is great and his posts are getting better, why crap on him /smh.

Rodney was NOT that big. 220 lbs is not 225-235 and 225-235 is not 235.
A 220 S and a 235 lb LB are not comparable.
.

Did I miss the post where someone suggests Meriweather is headed for the practice squad?

No but I'm just disappointed we didn't stash him on PUP :bricks:
