Stunned is a strong word, but i'm very surprised by Moore going.

There was no room for Moore. He's not a better starter than Ellis or Carter, not a better situational pass rusher than Anderson, and doesn't have the upside or draft status of Cunningham. And that's without throwing Wright into the mix at DE, where he played Thursday night.

Me, too. The good news is that our OLBs/DEs mut be very good to be able to release him.

We saw in game 4 (once Ellis and Wright were healthy) that the likely 43 lineup is 3 300llb DLs and one 260 lb DE/OLB. With another playing in nickle and dime. There isnt a lot of room on the roster for that guy, and we have a lot of them.
Carter, Cunningham, Ninkovich were not going anywhere and this appears to tell us that Anderson beat out Moore for a role as one of the nickel/dime pass rushers. Not that surprising to me, I saw the 2 of them competing for a spot all camp long, although my slight favorite would have been Moore. This may actually be a very positive sign, in that Anderson impressed the coaches more than Moore who we felt they thought highly of.

IMO he was better than either JC and MA in the preseason.

True, there's a a crowd there. Moore also came late last year and was able to play fairly well. If he's not resigned by someone else, he might get a call from us if injuries become an issue.

This was a bit surprising. And I am additionally distressed by the fact that no longer will I be able to sing the Monty Python Dennis (Eric) Moore song when he is on the field.

They call it "first surprise cut" Im not all that surprised to be honest looked like he was getting pushed down the depth chart with Carter, Anderson and with the return of Mike Wright. I was thinking he'd be cut.

This leaves me a bit unsettled; Moore always seemed to be around the ball and make the plays. I would like to have seen him on the 53. Anderson flashed a bit in pre-season but wasn't impressive and Wright, even though I love the way he plays, is a huge question mark. I thought he might be on the cut list.
