Really hard to make predictions with so many undisclosed injury situations. Let's have a shot anyway:

53 for 9/7 opener:
Ebner, McClellin, Garcia were originally kept on 53 but later put on “short-term“ IR

QB (3) T.Brady, J.Garoppolo, J.Brissett
RB (6) M.Gillislee, J.White, R.Burkhead, D.Lewis, B.Bolden, D.Foster
FB (1) J.Develin
WR (4) B.Cooks, C.Hogan, M.Mitchell, D.Amendola
TE (3) R.Gronkowski, D.Allen, J.O'Shaughnessy
C (1) D.Andrews
G (3) S.Mason, J.Thuney, T.Karras
T (4) N.Solder, M.Cannon, C.Fleming, C.Croston
DE (3) T.Flowers, D.Wise, G.Grissom
DT (5) A.Branch, M.Brown, L.Guy, V.Valentine, A.Butler
ILB(2) D.Harris, E.Roberts
OLB(3) D.Hightower, K.VanNoy, H.Langi
CB (5) M.Butler, S.Gilmore, E.Rowe, J.Jones, J.Coleman
SS (2) P.Chung, J.Richards
FS (2) D.McCourty, D.Harmon
ST (6) S.Gostkowski, R.Allen, J.Cardona, M.Slater, B.King, M.Flowers

Total players: 53

Id keep Travis over Richards and try to “stash“ D Jones - but I guess BB is willing to take the risk putting them through waivers. If not claimed Im sure they'll be back on PS.

here a PS projection/wish list

WR Lucien/Carr, C.Hollister
TE J Hollister
IOL Douglas
T McDermott
DT Hamilton, Augusta
CB Moore/Likely
SS Travis
FS D.Jones

since some of the above might be gone (Jetes waiting) id love to see WR Maye there
reserve options: CB Killings, RB Daniels, ST Thompson

Sounds great to me.

Except I would take McDermott over Croston on the 53. Both seem similarly unlikely to contribute but I think McDermott is a rarer specimen in terms of body. But at that point we are splitting hairs.

I'm not entirely sure that Langi isn't headed to "short-term IR."

I decided to keep him from the D/ST absentee trio of McClellin, Ebner and Langi because he was the only one reportedly present at the game last night FWIW:

Then again so was Garcia. Just grasping at straws really..

LOL. Me, too!

If Carr makes the team he'd be pure depth and almost certainly inactive during game days until more injuries mount up.

Fingers are crossed that we can hang on to him via PS or whatever and he keeps working on his fundamentals. He has a chance to become useful down the road in a year or so.

The more I see his play vs Home Depot scrubs, the less I'm impressed. I've revised my assessment downward. Hope he makes our PS so I can revise my opinion over time.

I went to re-watch Langi's snaps @DET some days ago to see where the inj. could be. He was perfectly fine after his last D snap. Next time he could be in was blocking DET field-goal and there was a nasty pile up on the side where i thought i spotted him but it was a distant shot immediately cut to something else. Later he did not return to the game. It would really be unfortunate if that meaningless snap costed him a roster spot and building on impressive preseason..

I disagree with cutting ebner, slater (and bolden to a lesser extent) to keep carr, foster, bates, Travis.
Why mess with core special teamers for guys who wouldn't even be game day actives?
These guys could be lost if cut.

I don't remember BB ever cutting core players for one day to play a numbers game.

My line of thought here was: Croston is ready to back up (both G and T). McDermott is not ready to play NFL this year IMO.

Brave move to put Travis instead of Ron Burton Award winner. I didn't dare to do it myself . feeling BBs warm breath on my neck..

I agree with that completely, I was just thinking that it might be easier to get Croston to the PS (where he can be called up from) than McDermott because he really checks off many athletic traits for tackles and has a higher potential ceiling (in 1-2 years) than Croston. Either way obviously Croston is more likely to be ready for NFL snaps this year than McDermott, no question.

From the outside it is often more attractive to go with the unknown than with consistent mediocrity. Not sure the same is true for the coaching staff. With Richards you kinda know what you have over a full season. Travis who knows how he looks in 1-2 months. He is another player that I would rather try to stash on the PS.

This is after the players go on IR (Rivers, Edelman, Jones, Garcia, McClellin).
Slater, Freeny and Bolden might be cut and brought back.
This strategy makes sense with veteran special teamers.

That's it if i had to bet ...

But IMO the ideal would be: Foster IN Freeny OUT

So, you believe than 31 teams will all decide that Croston isn't ready, even though he is?

I would cut core STers for ONE WHOLE DAY in order to allow Belichick the flexibility to add players to IR after the cut. For example, I see no problem at all cutting a core STer for a day, so that Garcia can be on the 53 for a day.

BESIDES, there are others that might be cut first, who might be willing to take the additional money; Bolden for example.

The Pats cut Deion Branch temporarily during 2012 cutdowns.

I now have 7 players who I only expect to be seen on ST's
Slater
Bolden
Ebner
King
Flowers
Langi (could be replaced by Freeny)
Moore

I am saying that there are more attractive / valuable cut players just based on their positions out there than a backup interior OL UDFA. Cut day is often more about strategy and positional considerations than about the quality of a player. The chance of finding a future Marcus Cannon might be more enticing to some than a solid guard.
