After being a power run team for the past few weeks, we go on the road into a stadium where throws are known to sail (due to the thin air), and abandoned the run once again.

The game wasn't out of hand early on.

Running the ball could've kept the ball out of Peytons hands. Prevented him from getting into a rhythm. And wouldve shortened the amount of chances for Denver to score.

It also wouldve worn out their defense. Set up play action. AND couldve taken the crowd out of the game.

Instead it was Denver who ate the clock up and kept the ball out of Bradys hands.

another gem. we always out fox ourselves.

Because Denver loading up against the run had nothing to do with what NE decided to do (eye roll).
The other team has their say in what you do.

The run wasn't there. Denver was stout. They beat us in every phase of the game, including coaching (zero in game adjustments, particularly the second half)

PS. You are a miserable ba$tard!

the bills and colts were two of the worst run defenses in the NFL Denver is a top 10 run defense. I said it last night its going to take a big game from Brady and the defense for the pats to win they got neither

Can't run long at 1.5 yards a carry. Didn't seem like a very clever game plan, On the other ham]nd, we just got beat in the trenches on both sides of the ball.

you only get 4 downs,

not the 10 downs that you'd need to move the chains, the way our "power running attack" / one yard and a cloud of turf was working

The patriots lost for two reasons:

1) A well designed pick play where Welker ends Talib's night. I bet he waited all week to deliver that hit.

2) In a game where you know that a Seyton Manning's team is not going to be called for PI/holding, why would you game-plan around pass? The only thing that beats bad refs is a determined, power run game. The pats completely sold out on what got them to the playoffs. You could tell the o-line knew the strat was pass happy and they didn't show up. They were awful all season in pass protection. Beli-genius out thunk himself instead of looking at the reality of the game - massive holding, horrible receiving core, and terrible pass-protecting o-line. The Denver defense defense isn't great against the run, it's just every team that played them had a solid enough receiving core to attack their weak secondary, ignoring the run. The pat's don't have that luxury.

The pat's came in with ego instead of effort.

You can't just arbitrarily stick with one strategy when that strategy isn't working/the defense is not giving you that strategy. Well I guess you can but it's all but a certain failure. Denver was banging it up front. I don;t know that they won the trench battle but they were definitely holding their own. They were, understandably, not going to lose like Indy and Buffalo did the last two weeks. They did a BB, they took away what the Patriots did best on offense (run) and said 'beat us without having your most potent weapon'. .

I will say this about the run game, I wish they would have tried Ridley more. I have no idea if it would have made enough of a difference but, IMHO, the defense the Broncos were playing just seemed to be something Blount couldn't beat. Yet it appeared to me Ridley was having a little bit better success at getting to the line without some defender right in his face.

The Patriots were a team, because of their deficiencies, that needed to play well most everywhere. I think they had two PM passes that potentially could have been intercepted. They had to have those interceptions/TOs to win. They had to have Brady hitting the mark, hit long throws to receivers that had beaten their defender. They had to have those completions. They had a few points slip away (via a sack I believe). They had to have those points. They allowed several third and long conversions. They had to have those stops (hey had a penalty reverse a third down stop. They needed that penalty non call). They needed Talib to take away the Broncos' best receiver. Talib got hurt (again) and their best receiver was not taken away. They needed receivers not named JE to step up as Denver was keying on Edelman/the slot. Collie gets a good mark from me and Dobson had a few moments. They had to have them step up bigger.
The Patriots CLEARLY were a team that had little room for error. To win this and the next game they had to play their best ball. They had to make the big plays when the opportunities were presented. They didn't. Subsequently they lost and unsurprisingly so. On to 2014.......

The fact was that they probably weren't going to be able to run nearly as effectively against a team whose defensive strength was stopping the run. DEN came into the game with the 7th ranked run defense, and we saw them stop SD last week as they attempted the same thing.

On top of that, they felt that they could exploit DEN's weakness in the secondary. Once DEN came out with an excellent long drive to open the 3rd quarter, they had absolutely no choice whatsoever anyway.

The concern that I had all week was "how" they could possibly have enough success with a lack of viable targets in the receiving game, when/if the running game wasn't working effectively enough, or we go down any kind of significant point total.

LOL at U. Horrible thread! The run wasn't there today and you don't get to work on the run game when you are playing catch up because the D can not get the Broncos off the field in the 3rd qtr.

Thread fail!

At least this time they abandoned it because it wasn't working. That's a considerable step up from abandoning it when it's working.
