A Blount Discussion

Blount is a monster. I've been watching highlight reels of him on youtube for the last two days and HOLY $#!%!!

Guy is a freaking beast!! Cant wait for week #1! Gonna make Patriot haters miserable again all year!

Its amazing how small he makes himself to sneak through holes for a back of his size, if he plays like his 2010 form we could possible have the highest yards per tandem backs this year between Ridley and Blount!

Vereen on 3rd downs for screens and change of pace, washington returning kicks, and then bolden (if he makes the team) as a reliable back if ridley or blount go down. Our backfield depth is a strength!

Good to see he is playing well but he is still a bubble player, not one who is challenging for the starting RB position. Vereen and Ridley are their RB's and Blount is battling Bolden for the back-up position.

What's weird about Blount is that he's advertised as a power back because of his size, but he's always been much more of a finesse back. He was particularly deficient on the goal line in Tampa. But we saw his vision and elusiveness on display in the first preseason game. Against a second and third string defense, but still.

I wouldn't say finesse, but his power is after he builds up speed. Not a great short yardage back for his size, but i'm sure he's more than adequate.

I was all for taking a flyer on Blount when he came out of college. That whole punch incident really set him back. He would have been at the very least a second round pick without that incident coming out of Oregon.

Blount tailed off last season because he got beat out by a rookie and frankly, I don't think he thought that was gong to happen. In the end, it might be the best thing for him. It will re-double his practice effort and edication to the game. You have to rememebr that he is not a stranger to the quick pace offense that the Pats run, as they basically stole it from Oregon.

Blount is big and fast! A perfect completment to Vareen and Ridley. If you gave him a chance as the Number 1 back, he would be a Pro Bowler in this offense. I look for him to have a big year.

Assuming health, Blount (along with Ridley) should at the very least ensure more success running the ball on nickel packages, particularly during the playoffs.

I dont think that was ever in debate. Its always been Blount vs bolden as the change of pace back to swap in when riddley needs a breather, and after the game on friday Blount imho is ahead of bolden on the depth chart

1st and 2nd down back: riddley, backup blount
3rd down back: Vereen, backup washington.

On the outside looking in, bolden.

It's only 1 game, but at this point he makes the team no doubt. One thing I noticed about his 2010 clips is how well he cuts at the LOS, he's a lot more nimble than most big backs.

As the year progresses I could see him getting as many touches as Ridley. And if Ridley fumbles at all, he'll move down the depth chart given the caliber of Blount.

Blount is definitely more nimble than his size would indicate. As someone who is good friends with a die hard Bucs fan, I've seen him a lot. The downside to Blount is he needs a full three steps before he's able to break tackles. If he so much as gets a finger laid on him before that happens, he's going down nine times out of ten.

That's my concern. While its not a big need, because Ridley was pretty efficient down on the GL, I would really like to find a BIG bruising pile pusher who will get the real tough yards and always fall FORWARD. That doesn't describe Blount, at least not based on his history with TB.

What we did get was a talented RB who is a legitimate big play giuy, and suitable option to carry the load if Ridley goes down. But what I fear is we got a 250 lb finesse RB, who will delight fans with highlight reel runs, and frustrate them by not being able to pick up key short yardage situations.

BTW- Is Jeff Demps participating in TB's TC, or is he running on the pro track and field circuit

Blount's 51 yard TD run was #1 in this week's top 10 plays on NFLN, for what it's worth.

He doesn't have a great short burst, but I'd hardly call a guy who takes 8 or 10 tacklers to bring him down a "finesse" players.

Has another good game...count him as #2 RB

If anyone's going to fumble, it's likely to be Blount--who historically fumbles on average every 42 or so touches:

You think you've heard rumors of Ridley having fumblitis, wait until you see Blount with half the touches that you're suggesting...

He'll be fine in a role for getting some carries this year in the sense that Bolden was last year, but I don't see L.Blount "getting more carries than Ridley." I think some of us are getting a little bit carried away here regarding Blount and his abilities.

That is my concern also, but the knack for putting the ball on the ground is much more disturbing to be.

We constantly hear about Ridley's tendency to fumble and yet Ridley only puts the ball on the ground every 75.4 touches.

In comparison, Blount puts the ball on the ground every 42.7 touches.

1/75 Ridley

1/43 Blount

That's obviously the most concerning aspect to me personally.

He's participating in some Olympic trial. He isn't in training camp.

Oh come on. That is not even remotely true.

You serious, brah? Those guys are all better Blount? For Pete's sake, Ingram has a total of 1,076 yards in his first 2 seasons vs. 1,788 for Blount. Looks to me like all you did was grab starting RB's across the league and didn't even think about how silly most of those names are.

There may be 2 or 3 guys on that list where you have a point but the rest are no more talented than Blount (if Blount had his head on right).

And if any team can get a players head screwed on right its this one. There was once this guy named Moss....

While I have a deep appreciation for your optimism regarding the potential of LeGarette Blount, I'm guessing that most of us would indeed rather have the following players:

--Doug Martin

--Jamaal Charles

--CJ Spiller

--Chris Johnson

--Marshawn Lynch

--Alfred Morris

--LeSean McCoy

--Darren McFadden

wait.....the only player who's actually on the list that I honestly wouldn't want to have may be Mark Ingram, which means that there are 20 other RBs on the list. And he listed a total of 21.

Definitely not "2 or 3."

Some here are getting a little carried away about a player who was/is clearly on the bubble prior to having a nice run againt the opposition's 3rd string defense....

Good lord man
