2025 LT

Don't know if Membou's an NFL LT physically, so he's gonna have to kill it at the combine athletically.

Would love Banks in the mid-first, after a trade-down or two.

Brown's a Day 3 dude; we need to have already drafted a LT during Day 1 or 2 before looking for him in the 6th round.
I am not a fan of Banks, but am all for drafting and signing multiple OL in FA. Owenu did a pretty good job in pass blocking but his run blocking looked bad this year. Hopefully Marone helps them all improve. I would love to see a couple of trade downs and walk out with 6 picks in the top 100 as well as a couple next year. Pipe dream, maybe

The 2021 combine was canceled, so we don’t have that “single source of truth” for that draft/UDFA class. It’s not uncommon for measurements from something like the Senior Bowl to differ from Pro Days, we just usually don’t care because we can assume the combine is accurate.
Thats a great point about the Combine in 2021, that didn't occur to me.

Campbell looks solid, ngl. My main concern is his arm length and his ability to play at tackle. If his arms are too short he will be forced inside to left guard. Not a fan of using a high 1st on a guard. The Strange pick still haunts me. We're hoping he can move inside to Center at this point!

I was looking at FA LTs and Alaric Jackson has 32.5 inch arms.

He has been my go to for FA, should I bump him off the list
Let's just pay Ronnie Stanley the big $$ to protect Drake Maye's blindside. He's a 6'6 blocking stud.

If we offer him 4 years/100m he should become our stud OL. Everything becomes easier along the line once you have a solid LT in place.

Duke Manyweather who trains the top OLs for the combine, including Will Campbell, lists a bunch of quality OTs with 33+” arms in defence of Campbell which suggests to me he knows Campbell meets that threshold.

It goes beyond the arm length for.me. it's the eye test. And I've seen enough clips of him getting beat by the likes of Scourton, Kennard and Verse.

When you look at his overall record, your eye test is revealed as a conclusion in search if data. Let’s take the Verse clip as an example. He gave up the one sack shown and no others. The game took place 9/3/2022, it was Campbell’s first game, going against a guy who was DROY in the NFL this past season.

He gave up no sacks in any game he played against Scourton or Kyle Kennard. Same with Shemar Stewart, James Pearce, Mikel Williams, Landon Jackson, or Princely Umanimielon, all SEC guys currently rated higher than Kennard in multiple draft sites. He had a poor game against Florida this season.

He gave up 4 sacks in nearly 1,600 pass blocking plays in his career, that’s about one in every 10 games. He gave up less than one hit or hurry per game. He committed less than 10 penalties.

Your binky Josh Simmons may be a better prospect but doesn’t have anything close to that record of success, especially at the LT position playing against high level competition. Same goes for Ersery and Conerly. Banks is the only guy whose on field performance numbers rival Campbell’s, in fact I think they are better than Campbell’s. I’d be happy with either of those guys or Simmons in a trade down scenario, obviously depending on what they get back.

With all that said, I have stated many times on this forum and reiterate here that if Campbell’s arm length is substandard I don’t want the Pats taking him at #4 or anywhere else in Round 1 or 2. Even if they are longer than what Marrone and the others making the draft decisions think is fine, if they address LT in free agency, I’d prefer they use #4 on a player that their opponents will need to game plan to stop. I certainly prefer Carter and Hunter to Campbell, and would not be upset if they went with Graham and possibly a guy like Jeanty, Warren, McMillen, or one of the other highly rated prospects if they have the FA LT onboard.

And I commented:

Why wouldn't Campbell have taken him on? Instead he plays the lighter guy on the edge?

What's your definition of substandard?

I think you can see why here. He's past the point of no return. #50 has too many to block and the play is ****.

Whatever Marrone thinks or I guess also what the Pats overall evaluation team thinks. Me personally I don’t have the expertise to know why for example 22.875 is a fatal flaw but 33.25 isn’t. I think hand size also comes into this.

Looks like the Center was supposed to take him but he got bulldozed by 91

I think he is average, but I love his attitude. To show him losing reps to 1st round DL is not an endorsement of him sucking.
I get it everybody gets beat on occasion. I'm just of the belief that he is better inside and not out in space.

I think he would be better as a OG, but I am still hoping we focus on changing defensive personnel in the draft. Patch the OL in FA take some developmental guys 4th round or later. I am just not that impressed with this OL class

I've become rather fixated on signing Jackson/Stanley and then drafting Hollin Pierce and Logan Brown. Brown is inexperienced but he looks to have everything you want from an OT: length, size and athleticism. I really like Pierce when he sets up in a pass set although I think it's possible he might have issues with speed rushers. And if he does? Turn him into Mekhi Becton.
