That was just amazingly bad, wasn't it? I had thought that in time the defense would adapt to Covington's approach, to his manner of coaching or to whatever changes he might make in the schemes. I no longer think that is the case. Even with generous allowance for the injuries, the defense is, well, indefensibly awful: sloppy in meeting individual responsibilities, indifferent as to the fundamentals, incapable of in-game adjustments, *****ing about one another, seemingly ill-conditioned, only intermittently committed to their work. ALL of this is attributable to coaching.

I would attribute the failures of the offense first to the dismal quality of the roster, making Wolfe the top culprit for that unit. To my eye, given his failings under both Belichick and Mayo, Wolfe's performance has been so dismal that he should be let go immediately. We need - yet again, for f's sake - to start over rebuilding the roster. Step one is getting rid of this preening nepo punk. As for Van Pelt, he obviously lacks the skill to devise a game plan, to make in-game adjustments, to capitalize on the particular skills of individual players, and so on. He may or may not make a suitable QB coach for Drake May, but to this point he is not working out as OC. I would give him the rest of the year, but barring a very surprising change in his approach, I would anticipate he will be a one-and-done.

I have probably posted too much about Mayo, so I'll skip the details, but to this point his tenure is an obvious bust. The team is by any reasonable standard or metric in a state of failure. It is the worst team in the league, and - ironically enough for a HC who claims to value "culture" and "relationships" - the team is falling apart as a group of men capable of and willing to work together. I would in fairness give Mayo the remainder of the season to show what he can do, but I would expect, again barring unlikely major changes in his approach, Mayo also to be out at season's end.

How did it come to this? Simple. The Krafts chose not to have a legitimate, professional hiring process after rightly letting Bill go, and this is the result: an inexperienced and incompetent coaching and front office staff. They got lazy, sloppy, inattentive, cheap; apparently thinking that ditching Bill would magically put things right. The worst offense, of course, was permitting Robert's silly infatuation with Jerod as a charming travel companion determine who would lead the rebuild of their team. I am not one who has complained much about the Krafts in the past, but clearly it is time for change there as well. I don't know if Johnathan can do the job, but it is clear, I take no delight in saying, that Robert no longer can.

I am aware that this post sounds like an indulgence in bomb-throwing, but I think that this is a reflection not so much of my animus or curmudgeonly ways as it is of the team's obvious failings, or so I imagine..

Bump.

Because it’s the Truth. All of it.

Who gives a ****. He got hurt playing in a contact sport what a surprise.

He went right back out there like a man and played better this week than last. How about that?

If they wanted him to play vs Houston then they should’ve prepared him for the speed they would bring off the edge by playing him first vs Miami. Throwing him in cold vs that particular team was foolhardy.

Your take is old and tired and out to lunch. He did great. Accept that you was wrong and we can all forget about it.

To look at his Houston game and come out of it with a I told you so mentality is weak. He looked every bit the stud we were promised.

Because he has potential that you want to try to develop. Would are you playing at WR4 instead?

Bourne, Ozzy, Pop & Booty Time are my 4 WRs. The other 3 ****-stains can “compete” during the week for the 5th (if they even have one) game-day active spot.

Bait and switch Mayo: he's been doing that since TC.
Bingo, couple things that stood out. His backtracking, which is now called doing the Mayo. Say something 180 out from what you said a day earlier? No problem, I was just doing the Mayo.

Second, he said about social media posts, "Players will tell me thats not what I mean etc etc". Okay Mayo, how about you tell them that the next time they post something and then tell you they didn't mean it, they get to ride the pine the next game.

Mayo seemed to throw shade at BB's hard-ass style of coaching early on, but I don't ever recall a BB team making this many unforced errors and committing stupid penalties.

The local media as expected is carrying water for mayo. They are giving him every chance to explain and move back. I bet if it was the previous coach it would be directly pointed at his locker room culture

Hmm, Mayo sounds out of his depth. He needs to get control of things asap or Thunder may need to take him to one side.

Exactly- going for 2 first shows no brains
Why? Explain your reasoning.

If you make the 2 you are down 7. If you miss the 2 you were going to need 2 more scores, and you found out now so you can play the rest of the game with that knowledge.

What is better about taking 1?

Not a popular opinion but as a fan, patience is something we need. It’s tough with our “immediate gratification” society, but look at Peyton Manning’s first year. We have a fairly young (depleted) team with a rookie QB and HC as well as an inexperienced staff. To build a foundation it will take at least another season to see how it all pans out.

They need to keep getting game experience, fill holes in the offseason and then we should see improvement.

I think we all fans signed up for patience. I personally cant seem to understand the constant moving narrative , the game day situational football, talking in the media and throwing people under the bus and the players having an open season. These all can be managed in a good program regardless of the skill position players they have. You cant come and brag about running the hill in week 1 and saying we are a runnign team until people stop us then we have other things and after that complete get dismantled in next 5 weeks and blame fatigue and softness. There was a big hoopla about the previous coach not having accoutability, i dont know what the current regime is doing in that regard.

The last two years want to remind you that it was this bad and worse.
Yes last two yrs were very bad. But even a matty p and joe judge and mac jones let team with similar or even lesser talent was one jakobi meyers brainfade or stevenson fumble from getting a playoff berth. Not sayin they deserved it or played well enough to deserve it but it was dysfunctional as now . Somehow the ownership thought that getting rid of one guy and completely changing the culture setup over 20 yrs of success was the way to continue forward because it didnt work last 2 yrs.
