This sucks for teams like the panthers, falcons, donkeys. We could see 3 quarterbacks selected in the first 3 picks unless maybe the jests trade the pick to a desperate team who gives up the farm.

Why not? Please explain why paying a STARTING QB a $24M salary is such a bad thing? Please explain why it's such a bad thing when Garappolo is a known entity and is fluent in their system? Especially when there isn't JACK on the market currently to be an actual BRIDGE QB otherwise.
Because you don’t pay a $24m salary when that guy has only started more than 6 games in a season once in 7 years. If Jimmy was a more stable asset the Niners wouldn’t even be trying to replace him. It’s not that hard to figure out.

basically pats are not picking a QB in the first round. this is what it means. unless someone drops to atlanta and pats are interested. i highly doubt.

It does seem like the run is going to happen early, and the cost to move up into that range is going to be pretty steep (for prospects you have less info on than most years). This might be the year to go BPA in the first round, and pick one of the second tier guys in the 2nd or beyond (if draft is still their chosen route).

The 49ers aren't cutting Garappolo.. The 49ers aren't going to hand the keys to the kingdom to a rookie with zero NFL experience.
They can’t afford to hold onto him because they need to free up cap space. Cutting him does minimal hit to their cap. Nobody is paying for Jimmy at his current salary or it would have happened already. He doesn’t have much of a market for his services beyond New England. Maybe they don’t cut him like you said but I wouldn’t expect much of a return for SF. This is as much a favor to them as it would be to the Pats.

I don’t see it. Atlanta wants a QB. Fields will be there. Could see four QBs taken in the first four picks? That would be a first.
ATL is glued to Matty Ice for next 2 years because of his contract. It's smarter to cash in on picks and remain in top 10. Why draft a QB to have him sit for 2 years. CAR is desperate and will give away the house to move up.

Only if they’d be patient to have that QB sit for 2-3 years. The Falcons just restructed Ryan’s contract and he comes with a dead cap of $40m next year and $15m the year after that. I think they’d be more open to sticking with Ryan and taking a lower cost developmental QB later in the draft, and leveraging their current spot in the draft order to gain more capital in a trade. But we’ll see.

And regardless of what the 49ers say, Jimmy is available, and there has to be a limited market for him. If the picks are Lawrence, Wilson, and lets assume Fields, then Same Darnold is available.

All i have been seeing is QB for the falcons. We will see. Maybe they can get a sucker to give up huge draft capital to move up to 4th spot.

Bill has a notoriously small pool of players he considers "draftable". If one of those players is there at 15, he will take him, if not (what I expect to happen) they will trade back and everyone will groan.

Missed it by this much (shows small gap between 2 fingers).

The main issue I see with the OP premise, as others have pointed out, there's no guarantee "your guy" will be there, even at #4.

This is just as likely a scenario as any:

#1 - JAX: Trevor Lawrence
#2 - NYJ: Zach Wilson

#3 - CAR: Justin Fields. MIA trades down to #8 where they get one of top 2 WRs + a bunch of CAR picks. CAR is desperate and will sell out to move up 5 spots.

#4 - SF: Trey Lance. ATL trades down to #12 where they can get a top EDGE + some nice SF picks. SF wants to move on from Jimmy in 2022 and Lance offers a great replacement.

Mac Jones should be available at #15 if Patriots are interested in him. If not, they can pick one of the top WRs, trade down or into 2022.
Swap CAR w/ SF on the above.

That's the mentality that has kept Kirk Cousins in Minnesota for years with absolutely nothing to show for it.

The 6 game starting BS in 7 years is asinine because you don't count the time he was sitting behind Brady. Next, Jimmy is a very "stable" asset. He knows the system they have there. He's a starting quality QB who can hold the fort until the Rookie can take over. It's no different than the Colts paying Brissett starter money last year despite also having Rivers.

Clearly it's not as simple as you would have everyone believe. Not to mention that you've failed to say what the 49ers would do for a Vet QB. Beathard signed with another team and Rosen is unproven.

Just stop. The 49ers still have more than 19M in cap space. So saying they "need" to free it up is erroneous at best. Especially since they have 76 players under contract and just traded away 2 picks this year. It's in their best interest to keep him as a mentor to the rookie than to cut/trade him.
