It’s bizarre this is being argued on here. Mason and Thuney are the guards and Cannon is at RT. They don’t have anyone proven at LT. The Pats didn’t draft him to stand on the sidelines so they will give him every chance to play LT.

It's absurd to assume one knows the outcome, when even the coaches don't know.

My opinion is he is a natural guard.

But if you have the ability to see into the future, I have some questions for future bets I'd like to make?

It will be an open competition, Cajuste will be involved assuming health, Croston also, Thuney played tackle in college also.

My first statement on this topic was an observation, not a declarative statement.

Here's the funniest timeline:

This season they have Thuney play LT and Wynn LG. Everyone performs well and the OL is up to their usual standard. Thuney, being a UFA, gets the now traditional hugest contract on the open market by a desperate team and performs Okayish for the rest of his career. The Pats get a 3rd round comp pick. Wynn then moves to LT and does great for his career.

At least one poster did, and wasn't it you who said Wynn was drafted because he was the best tackle in his draft class, omitting the two guys taken ahead of him including the one taken at #9 overall

How is this connected to my point ?

You keep referring to Wynn as someone they drafted for the interior which is was causes this laughable debate. My personal opinion that Wynn was the best tackle has nothing to do with why people have an issue with your entire angle (i.e. "he was drafted as a guard").

Everyone had Wynn pegged as a guard, not just me.

That is not true and if you were looking beyond your "reputable draft resources" into what actual former linemen and not the armchair internet bros are saying you would have seen that.

Wynn is coming off an achilles injury, there may be better options at tackle, he might be better served getting eased in and taking over at guard next year when Thuney walks.

I wonder, whether Thuney moves to LT or not, if he'll ever see a big contract from the Patriots?

I say no, they seem to have hitched their cart ($) to Mason at guard. Also they have Wynn sitting there, (regardless of position) with Frodo sitting behind him. I doubt they make two guards some of their highest paid offensive players. I think they knew this when Mason and eventually Thuney were approaching contract negotiations and they drafted Wynn.

More than talent is considered when assembling a roster, contract status matters as well.

A lot of amazing testimonials about a player BB took post draft, I only care what these guys were saying prior to the best talent evaluator in the NFL choosing them. Pre-draft...

Scar has the utmost confidence in the kid to play anywhere, so do I. He also said and it has always been that camp will determine who plays and where.

I'm not making any promises or prognosticating, I'm saying the possibility for Wynn to be at guard and Thuney at tackle exists.

Thuney at tackle not so much. Wynn as a guard if BB/Scar/Caserio were wrong sure.

There is one of those declarative statements again. If Wynn is a pro bowl caliber guard, that's a mistake I would accept every time. Nobody knows the Patriots true intentions. If it comes to pass, the only mistake will have been by posters assuming tackle was Wynn's only position.

The Patriots drafted a very good offensive lineman with positional flexibility, < I just described a large majority of offensive linemen (players even) acquired in the last two decades. Matt Light, who I'd compare Thuney favorably to, was acquired because he was a talented player, not because they meant to shoehorn him into tackle, he ended up there by default after camp.

Veldheer is gone, the signing of another vet OT is a possibility.

Jesus are you reading or listening challenged ? You have the OL coach flat out saying WYNN IS THE STARTING LT and it is his job to lose. Like what else do you need to determine intentions ?

I mean if he was drafted with the interior in mind then we would have heard completely different statements (i.e. more vague) from the coaching staff.

Seriously, you keep digging yourself a deeper and deeper hole.

The question is: when will he be completely healthy. He is coming off of a very serious Achilles injury. That is a much more difficult injury to come back from than some, and it must be remembered that he is still effectively a rookie.

I would be delighted if he comes in to training camp and is 100% fully recovered from his injury (both physically and mentally) and slides in as the no-brainer LT.

However, that is a lot to ask from (effectively) a rookie coming off that type of injury, and I would not be at all surprised if they ease him a bit (maybe with some snaps at T and some at G) until he gets his confidence (especially in the repaired Achilles) up a bit. We'll see.

Certainly I agree that it will be a bit of a disappointment if he isn't taking most of the LT snaps by mid year or so.
